Vogel's smoking crack if he thinks there aren't people on his own forum who pirated his games.

Graphics whores in this thread, shame on you.
Vogel's games would be fine even with original E1 and E2 tilesets:

P.S.: Fuck Vogel. But because of dumbing down my precious Exiles. Twice.

"Hateful grognards" is even too kind, he pretty much stated that the 'Dex was a bunch of insane, rage-filled pirates.
But we are a bunch of insane, rage-filled pirates.

Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me.
We pillage, we plunder, we rifle, and loot,
Drink up me hearties, yo ho.
We kidnap and ravage and don't give a hoot,
Drink up me hearties, yo ho.

Yar har!

Last time I tried them in Wine, the area of effect overlay wasn't showing up, which made it difficult to use a lot of spells (especially if you're trying to use something like conflagration without hitting your own units).

Wait wasn't Exile a Windows 3.1 game? If so getting it to run in DOSBox should be trivial.

Well, it should be trivial to run it even if it's early Win95.

That would be neat, tuluse, thanks.
Any sort of a "running-exile-on-Win7 for dummies" guide would be appreciated.
It's not nearly as difficult as it might seem.

Download virtualbox: https://www.virtualbox.org/

Install it, go through the wizard for setting up a virtual machine using the Windows XP default settings.

Start the virtual machine, use a windows XP cd or iso as the CD for the virtual machine. Spend way too long finishing installing Windows XP. Download and install Exile inside the virtual machine. Play.

The reason I say to do this instead of the built in "WinXP Mode" in Win7 64 is that virtualbox has the ability to do 3D acceleration (up to DX 6 I think). So if you end up wanting to play any old Win95/98 games that used 3D they work as well.

Woa, hold up. Let's say I only want to try and play Exile.
How do I activate WinXP Mode in Win7? Setting it up in the install file's compatibility options doesn't work. Is there any other way?

EDIT: Erp, just googled it. Didn't realize it was separate. Giving it a go!

EDIT 2: Works like a charm! Thanks!

Check it out, Lhynn and Mustawd !
