1. You're in a desert, walking along in the sand, when all of a sudden you look down and see a tortoise, Guest. It's crawling toward you. You reach down and you flip the tortoise over on its back, Guest. The tortoise lays on its back, its belly baking in the hot sun, beating its legs trying to turn itself over, but it can't. Not without your help. But you're not helping. Why is that, Guest? Why are you not helping?

I don't know if this information was confirmed before (if so, I have missed it), but Swen Vincke's last blog entry clearly says that their Project E is a top down RPG.

I'd love something like Divine Divinity. It's a great game.

Thanks, I saw that, but I'm not familiar with any of the games (too young, too third-worldian).

Edit: I'll just assume that's a good thing and add my :bro: .

Original Victorian steampunk vampire RPG... I would have preferred that over Dragon Commander actually... (inb4 DraQ).

The real question here is whether Project E will be a very important milestone for RPGs. :M

So it's official, it will be Eye of Diablo.

They have really dragged this out, and I suspect I am going to be irritated by what's going to get made given all the teasing about a real RPG that is big and special and neat and stuff. I guess anything that's not a flash game is old school now.

But what about the sky bros? I hear seeing the sky is really important in an RPG.

Heh, who the fuck was it that whined about not seeing the sky again?

I don't know if it's good...gameplay wasn't always that great in cinemaware games, they were basically lauded for their graphical presentation on the Amiga and consisted for the most part of a series of minigames of varying quality in between a map or menu where you outlined what you wanted to do each turn. Wings was a great little game though. I think Larian means that their game will be basically a strategy title where you make choices and then get thrown into tactical situations or minigames before going back to the strategic map like in those games. Though that could describe Total War as well, which also incidentally was inspired by Cinemaware's titles like Lords of the Rising sun and Centurion Defender of Rome(this wasn't by Cinemaware but by a developer that made earlier Cinemaware titles and it shares similar style). Used to love Centurion...still have it somewhere.

Hm, interesting. That may be what he's referring to by '...and strategy on top of that'.

You should have a look there for cinemaware games ,http://www.lemonamiga.com/, those were amongst the most gaphically spectacular games on the amiga, that with the bitmap brothers, team 17 or psygnosis. The games mixed cinematic with different types of gameplay .In defender of the crown, you had a strategy risk like map mixed with action scenes ,rescuing a bride, castle siege, or jousting .This is the first game they are known for, remember this was in 1986, on consoles you were playing the first supermario and zelda.

Another strategy action mix they made later lords of the rising sun, i still find the music beautiful:

Its nice that larian has such gaming references and want to revive a gaming genre , undoubtly they are on the path to success for this dragon commander game.

Yes, returning from beyond the point of no return on the road to ultimate shittiness is quite important.
Even if it's going to be a more ambitious diablo-like in its essence.

Also, we have known that E was going to be iso for quite some time, right?

Back to the basics, its what this industry needs now. Especially after ME2&3 and DA... damn Bioware is singlehandely killing rpgs. Sad days indeed.
