Iron Tower and Obsidian

In this thread I want to discuss some similarities I noticed between Iron Tower Studio games and Obsidian games.

Specifically:
- AoD takes place in a very harsh world. Obsidian's announced Tyranny takes place in a world where evil won.
- AoD offers great (unprecedented?) reactivity with the world and strong (unprecedented?) C&C. Obsidian announces Tyranny with improved reactivity and C&C.
- Iron Tower announces plans for a Learn By Doing system in Colony Ship. Tyranny will offer LBD as well.

Now, all this had me scratching my head, and I even made a comment recently that big developers are probably playing AoD in their free time wishing that they could make games like AoD. Then, I reached Gannezar in AoD and what do I find?

A youngster arguing with a Loremaster that Gods are man-made!

Granted, I am only on my 1st AoD playthrough and I don't have a very clear picture about what is going on. But the theme in the spoiler tags is a major theme in PoE as well!

So, what do you guys think?

PS. I am not having a go at anyone, btw. If it turns out that Obsidian are playing and are getting inspired by Iron Tower games, I will respect Obsidian more!

Hasn't Tyranny been in production for a year or more already? Like I thought it was worked on in parallel with PoE. So it means that they started a lot of this before AoD even came out.

Codex Year of the Donut Serpent in the Staglands Dead State Divinity: Original Sin Project: Eternity Torment: Tides of Numenera Wasteland 2 Shadorwun: Hong Kong Divinity: Original Sin 2 A Beautifully Desolate Campaign Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Pathfinder: Kingmaker Pathfinder: Wrath I'm very into cock and ball torture I helped put crap in Monomyth
The Gannezar thing must be a coincidence, everything you see in AoD was likely written years ago.

Also, let's not forget that VD sells weapons in PoE's Defiance Bay. The plot thickens.

What is going on?
Is VD an alias spawned by Feargus' imagination? Are Iron Tower members brainstorming with Obsidian employees? Am I insane, seeing patterns where there are none?

An RPG influenced by Age of Decadence can only be a good thing.

VD is a deep cover Obsidian puppet to infiltrate the Codex!

I've been following AoD's development for quite a long time, before i got tired of waiting*, and i've noticed rather big focus on ...:balance:

at least at the combat part. ITS is still interested in balancing AoD after release.

Also, we know that MCA was checking AoD. Possibly he shared AoD's demo with ex-coworkers.

*I bought the game, obviously. On Thursday, even.

What do you think genius? The things you listed are so general, they could have happen in any game. OMG, Oblivion also has a LBD skill system, VD ripped them off!

AoD and Tyranny/PoE having some basic things in common is not more than a coincidance. But I know it is a Codex tradition to make retarded threads about everything.

Obviously Trashos meant it as a joke. He actually first implied that Obsidian are ripping VD off. Then he hinted in jest that VD may well be Obsidian's alter ego or a secret ally:).

With the way Avellone died to Arcanum wolves, no way anyone on Obsidian managed to go far on AoD.

I'm only afraid that after CSG (or even sooner) some of the Vince's staff will be scouted by some Bethesda (or other) fag and will receive an offer they would be stupid to refuse. But that's far away from now I think. I know they all say that they do it mostly for fun and as long as it will pay their bills they will be content but that's before they see a check for million dollars.

none of the devs played AoD because they are literally too lazy to click their mouse so they play Dear Esther instead

I can but guess the reaction from Josh Sawyer if he ever attempts AoD.

From my super secret files:

[name redacted]: is there a list of hotkeys/controls for the AoD combat demo? i can't attack my opponent, which makes it kind of underwhelming.
ausir: you attack by left-clicking
[name redacted]: huh. i tried left-clicking and it doesn't do anything. :/
[name redacted]: specifically, combat starts, i get the grid.
[name redacted]: i can move
[name redacted]: the enemy can move
[name redacted]: and can attack
[name redacted]: but i cannot attack
[name redacted]: left-clicking does not seem to do anything
ausir: what weapon are you using?
[name redacted]: bare hands

Must be a pretty perceptive person, to immediately notice the glaring absence of unarmed combat. :M

Which rules out MCA.

Heh, that would never happen. We hate corporate life, we value more being able to wake up at midday and work on our pajamas (or robes).

Op is implying that somebody at today's Obsidian with power actually played AoD? I call it baloney.
