This is more or less a point-and-click adventure, but it's far from traditional, so I'm putting it in General Gaming.

INFRA is a Finnish game in the Source engine where you play as a municipal inspector who has to inspect a bunch of public works structures that have gone uninspected for years. When you arrive, you find pretty much everything in a state of disrepair. Your goal is to photograph evidence structural damage and corruption, as well as to survive any ceilings that might cave in on you.

It's kind of boring to play for an extended period, and there are some errors in the English that make a couple of puzzles confusing, but it's a marvel that someone put so much effort into this of all things. It's incredibly detailed, and the environments are a pleasure to explore.

It has a good B-movie vibe to it, like someone interested in urban exploration found a bunch of old shitty buildings and tunnels that nobody cared about and tried to make a story out of them. The story and writing are terrible, of course (and the main voice actor is hilarious), but it really took me along for the ride and made me interested in what the hell would happen next.

Currently it's only out as "Part 1" because they ran out of money, I'm guessing, but it's full of content, and it took me 11 hours to complete. Provided that it's ever finished, Part 2 is set to be released for free for everyone who owns Part 1. For the time being it ends with (spoiler alert) a ceiling caving in on you and the screen fading to black, with the message, "To be continued..." So that kind of sucks, but it's a better product than most episodic releases for sure, especially at the price of $15.

There's a stupid hunt for resources mechanic wherein you have to find batteries for your shitty camera and shitty flashlight, both of which have incredibly short lifespans, so I recommend cheating to just get as many batteries as you can and playing it at your own pace.

Spotted this in the "0451" immersive sim Steam sale.

Looks interesting. Part 2 was released so it's now a complete game. Gameplay hours seem to very wildly based on user reviews but about 25 hours seems to be normal.

It worries me somewhat reading reviews, as major themes seem to be not telling you what to do, which is super cool, and spending hours searching an area over and over to find a tiny key buried in the dirt, which is super uncool.

Did anybody else play this? sexbad?, did you go back and finish part 2? Any comments?

I'm inclined to grab it for the current $8 sale price. Recommendations? Anyone?

I ended up trying this. I was hoping for a fascinating exploration but it was not to be.

The game is very 'no handholding', which is fine, but it starts you off in the office building where the protagonist has worked for years, yet you have to blunder around trying to find your own office. Start me off in a place that I shouldn't already know like the back of my hand if you're going to make me explore it.

The first proper level looked great. I walked around, taking pictures of a bunch of broken stuff, opened a chained door with some bolt cutters, walked a path outside taking more pictures of broken stuff, eventually found my way to a river crossing that led me back to my starting point a la Skyrim, great I guess I've seen the whole level, and then ... nothing happened. I walked back to my car thinking maybe I was done, and ... nothing happened. It seems I was supposed to go back over the whole level again, dragging my camera cursor over everything in sight in hopes of finding the one critical thing I failed to photograph the first time through. We call this a "pixel hunt" and sorry, it's crap.

Other reviews match my experience. This is a mind reading game where you have to guess what the developers wanted you to do, in huge areas where nothing stands out. Not my bag.

So this is what Germans find exciting? Pffff.

Dude, I live in Rio. Going to the bakery at the corner I risk being robbed or hit by a stray bullet everyday.
