Chapter 19, wherein exposition and characterization involve some serious boots to the face of human dignity.

And Chapter 20, which is mostly slice of life, with some shootan at the end.

A bit of a cliffhanger, but not that bad.

You know, I think I have a suspicion that the author is absolutely slightly obsessed with sex, rape, destroying human dignity and other sick things. The fact that nearly 60% of the characters are souless sociopaths (with variable degree of madness) and actual psychopaths doesn't help. At least it's not Kirkwall.

I don't think that's necessarily true for the main characters. Kano doesn't act like a sociopath - from what we've seen of him thus far, advanced schizophrenia seems to be the best diagnosis; Ichiro is still mentally stable; Mizoguchi acts like a sociopath, but he's so self-conscious about it, it's hard to judge if that's how he really is; and Higuchi is an enigma.

Sure, there's a bunch of assholes featured, but you don't need to be a sociopath to act like an asshole. Amusingly enough, the enforcement targets usually seem like pretty normal, reasonable folk.

Chapter 21, where we're back to Pulp Fiction, Ichiro stomps on a human face, and we enter the realm of underage nudity.

Chapter 22, where our bros fight, and then chill. Meanwhile, sinister forces are at work behind the curtains.

Isn't it funny how everyone in this conversation implicitly assumes that Kano can kill anybody, at any time, if he feels like it?
