Gothic 2, I never played a mage in 1. Gameplay may not be much but the whole path of becoming one and later people recognizing you as such, and the dudebros at the monastery, were great. It certainly beats fucking Skyrim that you're considering.

That's the thing - you can play BG2 with a single mage, because there are no enemies in the game that can't be beaten with just magic, due to how varied the spellcasting system is. It's one of the biggest strenghts of this game; even though it was designed for the standard D&D party, it's also a lot of fun soloing. If you want proper mage battles however, modding it with SCS is a must, because the default enemy spellcaster AI is just bad.

Can I play BG2 without playing 1? I heard it's kinda shit. Also, how hard will be playing solo if I haven't played it before?
you should play BG1 first, otherwise you'll miss lots of referances. also imo BG1 isn't worse than BG2 at all. the only reason to skip BG1 is if you're not interested in the story at all.
Ugh, 2 is much better than 1. Skip away.

Planescape Torment looking "interesting" - holy fucking godfuck. Come on, what the fuck is going on here. This guy played 500h of Skyrim before even trying to play Torment, I bet. Fucking hell. Decline. I can't have a fgucking hardon anymore, so this is declining way too fast. What am i gonna do

"Interesting" considering mage playtrough, not the game itself. I know what reputation Torment has. And I played only 50h+ of skyrim beceause that's all I needed to clear everything out. But I must confess I didn't know of Torment existence when I played Skyrim

You can, you'll just be unfamiliar with some characters at first and probably miss a few references to the first game. Also, I think there is a powerful item that you can only get if you imported your character from a BG1 save file (even then, it must be a character who has the Golden Pantaloons in their inventory). It's not that important tbh, you can enjoy BG2 without having played the first game, but I think you should play BG1
The Baldur's Gate games are not meant to be played solo, that's for those who have played the game several times and already know their way around.

You may also miss the Helm of Balduran, IIRC. But you don't miss much if you don't import.

You can, you'll just get spoiled for the story. You can also play BG1 with the SCS mod (it works on both games), however, BG1 is a low level advetnure and therefore you won't get as many mage battles as in BG2.
As for how hard it would be, it's difficult to tell, because a lot depends on the player and SCS is modular, meaning you can choose which options to install. The mod does assume, however, that the player understands how spellcasting in the game works. For example, SCS makes it so that every mage comes prepared with buffs before battle, and these buffs have to be removed before you can hurt the mage. And here is a nice spreadsheet demonstrating why it can get complicated when dealing with high level mages who have access to all the spells:

By comparison, in the unmodded game breach & dispel were the only debuffs you'd ever need, because enemy mages had the collective intelligence of a brickwall.
In short, you won't know how hard it will be until you give it a try. But the unmodded game isn't really difficult, so you can always try it first, to get some experience with the spell system.
(if you install scs, choose to install the spell changes as well, it's optimized towards that)
