Bard's Tale went sci-fi!
Why don't you use just press Ctrl + F5, and go to the Capture Folder in the Start Menu DosBox 0.73 directory?

But there's red star! Red star wasn't forbidden symbol in the 80's.
My party is attacked by nazis, communists and some monks!

This is why the Bard's Tale is a great rpg, look at the damage!
Saynt hits at Skeptic 9 times hitting him for 1354 points of damage killing him.

That screenshot reminds me of one of the things Bard's Tale did right and most other RPGs didn't: death of a party is not final. It was actually possible to play Iron Man and generate a new party, and resurrect the old party members. I don't remember the excact mechanics, but I distinctly remember my whole party died the first we met Blue Dragons, but it was not Game Over. I really liked the idea about an Adventurer Guild.

Its random encounter system was one where simply standing in the same place for a while could trigger an encounter.

Fortunately this is not true for Bard's Tale 3:Thief of Fate (DOS version).

Unfortunately this is TRUE for Bard's Tale 2: Destiny Knight  Terrible.

Biggest lie of game history: you need a thief to finish BT3. NO, YOU DON'T!!!!
I killed Tarjan by using a Geomancer spell. Btw the thief was useful. Is there critical hit in BT2 also?

Do you know there are only 2 Bard's Tales? The title of the first episode was Tales of Unknown?

WTF???? How can I wait for a time?

Dragons Tale > BT

But, for a while there was only BT and Wizardry, and BT was the graphic whore's game of choice (bitmaps vs vector).

So not a lot of options.

Anyone remember that game Hell? I seem to remember battling a fair amount of nazis. No recollection of nazis in bt3 though. Too long ago perhaps.

I do remember killing lots of four groups of 99 bezerkers though.

as to complaining about random encounters while standing still all I can say is:

Thou art a pussy.

Stand there. Or move about. Time passes in real time without movement, which is why monsters sometimes just attacked when you did nothing.
