As a player I'm indifferent about romances in games, since it's rarely (if ever) a feature that I'd play around with, but as a game developer I'm pretty much against romances completely. Especially now a days, entertaining the thought of implementing romances is just asking for trouble. It definitely attracts a certain type of crowd. And if you fail to implement the right ratio of inter-species love-making, well, prepare for all hell to break loose.

i have seen more than enough vids featuring dying dying and dying AoD gameplay, so don't really feel i am in need of a demo;
although of course thank you for providing one, transparency is always appreciated!

what i would like to ask is how thorough/complete would a loremaster run be? Assuming it's the only one i can count on completing, lol, would i be missing out on much?

edit: spoiler free please!

I think almost any character would indeed be "missing out on much". For starters, depending on your loremaster's stats, you might learn a lot from the stuffy library-bound experts, or you might get in the field and make your own discoveries... But it is unlikely one character could do both. Further bifurcation will result from your faction choices. Just in the first town there are two loremasters which are mutually exclusive and each teaches you different historical secrets. And that is not the only time it happens.

I would say you need to play the game with 3 different characters to see the majority of what's going on. It's kind of the RPG version of Rashamon. You have to see the different points of view to get the full story.

tuluse sounds good to me, thanks!

[has brofists-to-give list, will implement next year. Iteration is slow]

Unless those 3 characters are super optimized you won't be seeing anything close to the majority of the content.

It is possible in principle to use a SINGLE hybrid build based on Loremaster to explore MOST game secrets at the moment. The ideal way is Loremaster -> Assassin -> Fealty to Gaelius. However, and this is a big however, this is QUITE hard. I remember seeing a build on the forums that managed to be a kick ass melee hybrid with almost all areas explored. But my impression was that it was based on a lot of reloads.

My personal feeling is that Merchants, Imperial guards, Thieves and Praetors are the core factions that see everything in toto. There are secrets of the game locked in each of these four factions, which others can NOT explore. The only exception is treachery and backstabbing to change from one to the other at opportune moments. Loremasters are NOT a core branch!! They have to make a choice to shift to one of the factions mentioned. Assassins are not CORE either but they are flexible enough to get the cream secrets of almost all the branches.

Doesnt even have to be romance/courting/marriage. Who said anything about that? Its all about raw passion! THE HEAT OF THE MOMENT! Say we talk about Lorenza once again, you take the 'conversation option' in the somewhat direction i suggested, and she immediately lets you know that

Vince said:
Would Lorenza, for example, agree to marry you and abandon her ambitions?

She wont ever be yours on paper and in the eyes of gods or w/e. Character goes 'is that so' and attempts a dex+ crit to evade the ladies and get a hold on the fair maiden, then a cha/str check to either force a kiss or smooth n elegantly cross do it, while the henchmen are confused at what to do. Now, if you succeeded in both, either have session just by the 2 of you or ask the 3 helpers to partake in the corpal carnage of decadent nature. Leaving her satisfied with a kiss on your cheeck and a promise to come back later. Now if you failed at some point on that route, Lorenza still recognises your desire and dedication, - you are forced on your knees by the henchmen and then maybe some reverse rape or strapon action going! Shazam! With poison to cloud your mind and soothe the reaction. Then you are sent off to do her bidding with a slight temporary debuff and a permanent +1hp.

Ez pz. 'Romance' done right. Age of Decadence is gritty and down to earth, so w/e, - this can happen. Fits the lore and all.

I was thinking since romance wouldn't be an option given the setting how about random sex or sex for favors nothing official. It would be pretty usefull for thieves and politicians and would fit the setting(and the real world for that) quite well.

Hell ye! Also we need system of STDs implemented! Remember how there is an unused 'temple' in Maadoran Commercium Disctrict? We can have either whorehouse there OR ! ORRRRR have healer specialising on curing those STDs, some protection and whatnot, you know, condom made out of camels internal organs or smth.

Yes, I chuckled at that too. That guy has been trolling ever since that (apparently genuine) request for romance was posted.

Can you role-play a low-intelligence character who is not good with any weapon?

Grab the Codex by the pussy Codex USB, 2014 Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
How low is low?

You could be a decent thief character. Low intelligence isn't the end of the world, it just means you won't get the most skill points and you can't pass certain checks. If we're allowed to use alchemy, then you don't even need to be at all good with a weapon; thieves often fight as part of a team, and you can do a lot with some well-placed bombs, fire, acid, and perhaps some poison, too. Focus on sneak, steal, lockpick, traps, maybe CS or branch into disguise or something, and have some decent physical stats to pass the related checks, you should do all right.

You'll be able to sneak into the camp to get the tube and lots of alchemy ingredients/bombs. You'll be able to use Aziz to kill the raiders after you steal the golden cup and get the mandrake. You can use your alchemy to help get the gold and fight your way out. I can see it being viable for a thief, and I imagine you could make a decent praetor, too.

You could also probably run a low int speaker too, I mean you wouldn't get past the int checks for the most profitable results but I'm pretty sure a low int talker can make it through the game just fine.

There were STDs implemented in Wasteland (1).

Are you suggesting that AoD is less of an RPG?

Keep up the good work VD. Looking forward to buying the finished product.
