Round 8 FIRE (just whittling down the armor)

Standard fire round, with one exception. For the first time this game, team gold succeeded in doing more damage (22 points) than team blue (20 points). The most notable thing about this round is that the Awesome managed to catch a couple of missiles in the head, almost knocking out the pilot and BOTH the Awesome and the Dragon made their 6+ piloting roll to avoid falling down exactly....so close.

Anyway, here is the map of the fire phase.
    And here are your numbers.

Weapons fire for Jenner JR7-F (Strike)
Medium Laser at Dragon DRG-1C (CGR); needs 5, rolls 4 : misses.

Weapons fire for Rifleman Sneede-FLU (CGR)
    LRM 20 at Awesome AWS-8Q (Strike); needs 8, rolls 10 : 12 missile(s) hit.
Awesome AWS-8Q (Strike) takes 5 damage to LT. 19 Armor remaining.
Awesome AWS-8Q (Strike) takes 5 damage to RT. 19 Armor remaining.
Awesome AWS-8Q (Strike) takes 2 damage to HD. 7 Armor remaining.
Pilot of Awesome AWS-8Q (Strike) "Ulminati" takes 1 damage.
Pilot of Awesome AWS-8Q (Strike) "Ulminati" needs a 3 to stay conscious. Rolls 4 : successful! (close to taking a nap for a round, that would have been bad.)

Medium Laser at Awesome AWS-8Q (Strike); needs 10, rolls 7 : misses.
Medium Laser at Awesome AWS-8Q (Strike); needs 10, rolls 4 : misses.

Weapons fire for Awesome AWS-8Q (Strike)
Particle Cannon at Dragon DRG-1C (CGR); needs 6, rolls 10 : hits RA
Dragon DRG-1C (CGR) takes 10 damage to RA. 10 Armor remaining.
Particle Cannon at Dragon DRG-1C (CGR); needs 6, rolls 7 : hits LL
Dragon DRG-1C (CGR) takes 10 damage to LL. 18 Armor remaining.
Particle Cannon at Dragon DRG-1C (CGR); needs 6, rolls 3 : misses.

Weapons fire for Dragon DRG-1C (CGR)
    Autocannon/2 at Awesome AWS-8Q (Strike); needs 5, rolls 8 : hits LA
Awesome AWS-8Q (Strike) takes 2 damage to LA. 22 Armor remaining.
    LRM 10 at Awesome AWS-8Q (Strike); needs 6, rolls 10 : 6 missile(s) hit.
Awesome AWS-8Q (Strike) takes 5 damage to CT. 20 Armor remaining.
Awesome AWS-8Q (Strike) takes 1 damage to CT. 19 Armor remaining.
Medium Laser at Jenner JR7-F (Strike); needs 6, rolls 7 : hits RA
Jenner JR7-F (Strike) takes 5 damage to RA. 1 Armor remaining.

Awesome AWS-8Q (Strike) must make 1 piloting skill roll(s) (20+ damage).
The base target is 5 [5 (Base piloting skill)].
Roll #1, (5 (Base piloting skill) + 1 (20+ damage)); needs 6, rolls 6 : succeeds. (again, making it by the skin of its teeth)

Dragon DRG-1C (CGR) must make 1 piloting skill roll(s) (20+ damage).
The base target is 5 [5 (Base piloting skill)].
    Roll #1, (5 (Base piloting skill) + 1 (20+ damage)); needs 6, rolls 6 : succeeds.

Round 8 Physical (Boot the head)

To start our shindig, the Jenner was going to try a token slap for 2 points of damage, of course lacking hands and lower arms, it is much like watching a Tyrannosaurus try to fisticuffs.

As far as the kick...Well, um, let me just post the results.

    Physical Attack Phase
    -------------------

Physical attacks for Jenner JR7-F (Strike)
Punch (Right Arm) at Dragon DRG-1C (CGR); needs 9, rolls 6 : misses.

Physical attacks for Dragon DRG-1C (CGR)
Kick (Left ) at Jenner JR7-F (Strike); needs 3, rolls 6 : hits (using Punch table) HD
Jenner JR7-F (Strike) takes 12 damage to HD. Armor destroyed, <<<SECTION DESTROYED>>>,
*** Jenner JR7-F (Strike) DESTROYED by damage! ***
Critical hit on HD. Roll is 2; no effect.

I will point out that I repeatedly implored the jenner not to do that stupid death from above! Then I told him not to be in kicking range while the dragon was on a hill and he wasn't. :D

    Turn 9 orders sent.

Of course two things to remember:

    1) the Jenner was more than half dead already, although it was a particularly gruesome death.
    2) The Awesome is in fact capable of taking on both remaining members of team gold and winning.

I like the entirely superfluous no-effect critical hit. It reminds me of some of the Fallout criticals, where the wording of them was sufficiently ambiguous that they could be seen to either be serious descriptions of what was happening, or sarcastic, like "Critically Hits For 1 Damage. Feel the pain."

And how's heat look now that he no longer has a puddle?

Round 9 MOVEMENT (finally some movement again)

Well it looks like we are finally getting some movement again from the mechs. The Awesome turned and began backing up, but its speed was dwarfed by the Dragon who walked around and got deep into its left flank. Not enough to prevent the Awesome from being able to bring all weapons to bear, but it looks like we finally have a pincer maneuver. Lets see if it works better for the Dragon than it did for Jenner. In other news, the Rifleman continued to limp forward to keep its medium lasers in range.

    Here is your map.

    And here are your numbers

    Awesome
    @ Rifleman 8+
    @ Dragon 7+

    Rifleman
    Med 7+
    Long 9+

    Dragon
    Med Laser 6+
    AC/2 5+
    LRM 6+

Looks like another bloody fire round

    Waiting on fire orders.

Round 9 FIRE (In which the Dragon demonstrates why thick leg armor is a good idea)

Not much happened this fire phase. The Dragon took PPC hits to either leg, but armor remains. Meanwhile, team gold continued to grind away at the Awesome's torso armor. One of the weaknesses of LRMs was highlighted this round; although both the LRM 10 and LRM 20 hit, only 15 missiles did damage.

    Total damage dealt:
    Team Gold 15 points
    Team Blue 20 points

    Here is your map
    [IMG]

    And here are your numbers

Weapons fire for Awesome AWS-8Q (Strike)
Particle Cannon at Dragon DRG-1C (CGR); needs 6, rolls 5 : misses.
Particle Cannon at Dragon DRG-1C (CGR); needs 6, rolls 10 : hits LL
Dragon DRG-1C (CGR) takes 10 damage to LL. 8 Armor remaining.
Particle Cannon at Dragon DRG-1C (CGR); needs 6, rolls 7 : hits RL
Dragon DRG-1C (CGR) takes 10 damage to RL. 18 Armor remaining.

Weapons fire for Rifleman Sneede-FLU (CGR)
Medium Laser at Awesome AWS-8Q (Strike); needs 9, rolls 8 : misses.
Medium Laser at Awesome AWS-8Q (Strike); needs 9, rolls 7 : misses.
    LRM 20 at Awesome AWS-8Q (Strike); needs 7, rolls 7 : 12 missile(s) hit.
Awesome AWS-8Q (Strike) takes 5 damage to LT. 14 Armor remaining.
Awesome AWS-8Q (Strike) takes 5 damage to RT. 14 Armor remaining.
Awesome AWS-8Q (Strike) takes 2 damage to RT. 12 Armor remaining.

Weapons fire for Dragon DRG-1C (CGR)
Medium Laser at Awesome AWS-8Q (Strike); needs 7, rolls 3 : misses.
Autocannon/2 at Awesome AWS-8Q (Strike); needs 5, rolls 5 : hits (using Left Side table) LA
Awesome AWS-8Q (Strike) takes 2 damage to LA. 20 Armor remaining.
LRM 10 at Awesome AWS-8Q (Strike); needs 6, rolls 7 : 3 missile(s) hit (using Left Side table).
Awesome AWS-8Q (Strike) takes 3 damage to LT. 11 Armor remaining.

Dragon DRG-1C (CGR) must make 1 piloting skill roll(s) (20+ damage).
The base target is 5 [5 (Base piloting skill)].
    Roll #1, (5 (Base piloting skill) + 1 (20+ damage)); needs 6, rolls 7 : succeeds.

And here is your heat. Not much to note other than the Awesome is now a 2/3 mech (ahhh, just like the Rifleman) due to heat buildup.

    Heat Phase
    -------------------
Awesome AWS-8Q (Strike) gains 31 heat, sinks 28 heat and is now at 7 heat.
Rifleman Sneede-FLU (CGR) gains 13 heat, sinks 13 heat and is now at 0 heat.
Dragon DRG-1C (CGR) gains 9 heat, sinks 9 heat and is now at 0 heat.

Round 10 MOVEMENT (Awesome be nimble, Awesome be quick....ah fuck it, Awesome SMASH)

Round 10 featured the novel situation of an Awesome (with heat) trying to escape the maneuvers of a Dragon. The predictable results? The Dragon was easily able to get into the rear arc of the Awesome. The round also featured the Rifleman shuffling forward to keep its med lasers in range.

I'd post a map, but I am about to do fire, so I shall keep this as a simple post.

Round 10 FIRE (The fruits of flanking an Awesome)

Fairly lucky round for team gold. Despite slightly worse numbers team gold managed to do 24 damage versus team blue's 10 points. The two funny parts of the round was watching the AC/2 hit the center torso rear armor; knocking off 2 points and leaving....17. Only 8 more rounds and the armor will be breached. It is almost as if the mech designers new that the Awesome would be completely unable to keep mechs off its ass and gave it thicker armor to compensate.

On the other hand, due to some impressive targeting, the Awesome's front left and center torso armor are down to 6 and 12 points respectively. The other amusing thing was watching the 1 PPC that hit, land on the right arm, only to have the right arm gone, so it transferred to the right torso, but the right torso is gone, so it went to the center torso, leaving only 5 points of armor.

    Here is your map now
    [IMG]

    And here are your numbers.

Weapons fire for Rifleman Sneede-FLU (CGR)
Medium Laser at Awesome AWS-8Q (Strike); needs 9, rolls 9 : hits RL
Awesome AWS-8Q (Strike) takes 5 damage to RL. 28 Armor remaining.
Medium Laser at Awesome AWS-8Q (Strike); needs 9, rolls 5 : misses.
    LRM 20 at Awesome AWS-8Q (Strike); needs 7, rolls 11 : 12 missile(s) hit.
Awesome AWS-8Q (Strike) takes 5 damage to CT. 14 Armor remaining.
Awesome AWS-8Q (Strike) takes 5 damage to LT. 6 Armor remaining.
Awesome AWS-8Q (Strike) takes 2 damage to CT. 12 Armor remaining.

Weapons fire for Dragon DRG-1C (CGR)
Medium Laser at Awesome AWS-8Q (Strike); needs 6, rolls 9 : hits (using Rear table) RA
Awesome AWS-8Q (Strike) takes 5 damage to RA. 12 Armor remaining.
Autocannon/2 at Awesome AWS-8Q (Strike); needs 8, rolls 12 : hits (using Rear table) CTR
Awesome AWS-8Q (Strike) takes 2 damage to CTR. 17 Armor remaining.
    LRM 10 at Awesome AWS-8Q (Strike); needs 10, rolls 7 : misses.

Weapons fire for Awesome AWS-8Q (Strike)
Particle Cannon at Rifleman Sneede-FLU (CGR); needs 7, rolls 3 : misses.
Particle Cannon at Rifleman Sneede-FLU (CGR); needs 7, rolls 7 : hits RA....ok CT
Rifleman Sneede-FLU (CGR) takes 10 damage to RA.
    10 damage transfers to RT.
Rifleman Sneede-FLU (CGR) takes 10 damage to RT.
    10 damage transfers to CT.
Rifleman Sneede-FLU (CGR) takes 10 damage to CT. 5 Armor remaining.

Awesome AWS-8Q (Strike) must make 1 piloting skill roll(s) (20+ damage).
The base target is 5 [5 (Base piloting skill)].
    Roll #1, (5 (Base piloting skill) + 1 (20+ damage)); needs 6, rolls 7 : succeeds.

Lastly note that all mechs are cool again.

Here is a zoomed out map so you can see a bit more of the big picture. Note the blue-green splotches are swamp. They do not offer any defensive benefits, but they do slow you down (one extra movement point to enter).

    Mech status: round 10

I though it would be helpful to show the status of the mech armor/internal ten rounds into the combat.

You know, I really sort of imagined the Jenner lying face down with its butt in the air, headlessly, while its head sinks into the puddle to the northwest where it was booted, rather than an exploded splat.
I thought my boot killed you.
