Hatred is about to break GTA numbers confirmed.
Can't wait for first sales numbers. This will be amazing.

AO rating in North America. Which basically means they might as well put explicit rape in the game.

better question is who send it to ESRB in first place ? I thought devs wouldn't sell it to retail.

Maybe they wanted actually AO rating to further propagate it.
There will be books written about this game in economy schools.

Though i want to see next edgy game like that.

It is, along with other games like Criminal Girls and RapeLay, which is really weird, considering Criminal Girls is just rated M, no nudity and the BSDM-related scenes were censored.

I really hope Hatred is sold somewhere, if not on Steam. It actually looks fun, if it's not overpriced. I'm not trying to be cool or anything, but a grim twin-stick shooter in a modern setting with that art style actually seems interesting, and I honestly believe that art in any form should not be limited to what a NeoGaf moderator or Polygon editor thinks is right. It looks original and even if turns out to be terrible, at least people should have the chance to comment on its gameplay and not freak out about how it treats women bad, makes fat Tumblr gamr grills feel insecure or stuff like that.

They can set up their own site for people to buy it.

At this point coming to steam or not it doesn't matter. Game has more publicity than all indie games combined.

I don't know, man... there's a pretty big number of people who would not buy something out of Steam. Maybe because installing a game is too hard for them, or because they can't show that they are playing the game to their friends... Steam at this point is a social hub for people who would love to ironically play it and spout memes about it. If it's not on Steam, about 90% of people who would play it just won't buy it because Steam is that big.

But considering how they were greenlit... ah, I don't know. Postal 2 is only there because it's rated M, and I don't think Manhunt 2 is uncensored there. If Steam opens up to Hatred, I think it should create a section specifically for AO games too, and allow erotic visual novels and such.

That just goes to show how quality control in Steam is a mess: you can put up any kind of shit there, but exposition and an ESRB rating is what will kill a game that appears to be more functional than most "x Simulator"s out there. :?

Those are polish devs. Which means that they can sell 10 times less and still be profitable as fuck and fuck whores everyday.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
So, does getting an AO rating automatically mean it's not going to go on Steam or will it be released there anyway? It has been greenlit and Valve decided that it doesn't violate their terms of content, so I don't see the problem? And it's not like ratings are the same in every country, Europe and Russia don't use the ERSB ratings anyway.

Not that I give a fuck about shitty Steam, I'd rather have this on GOG.

I think there are no AO games on Steam at all. They also ban games with sex, like eroges, and they don't even allow nudity mods.
If you are an indie dev and make something that involves violence against children or stuff like that, it's OK because they don't have any standards for quality control, but as soon as ESRB rates it, they pretty much ban the game from being sold, AFAIK.
And GOG seems like a better option, but I don't know if they would allow it. They sure aren't as restrictive as Steam.

"Even if this violence isn't really that bad and this harsh language is not overused. The guy from ESRB (by the way - very nice, polite and cooperative one) told me it's all about 'the context' which people they're testing gameplay video on will see."

So lazy. Would love to see them being challenged on that.

GOG may in fact be more restrictive than Steam nowadays.

They curate content though, which is kind of different thing.

Basically any shitty game can get on steam because greenlight system can be just bought via army of alts which is usually handled by some companies.

Gog is different as each game is choice of staff like steam used to be earlier.
I don't think GOG will have anything against selling this game. Hell they would be stupid to not bank on it.

As of Steam they don't do porn games. I believe only manhunt 2 wasn't realeased but we don't know reasons really. Could be that publisher didn't even put it on steam.

Imo it will be on steam.

Couldn't they just refuse the rating and try it with PEGI or something? Games that by all rights probably would've been given an AO rating have made it om steam anyways, like The Void (which features frequent full-frontal female nudity) and Lucius (where you play a demon posessed child who has to murder his whole family).

PEGI is EU board and devs probably sent it to ESRB because they wanted retail release or console release.
As far as devs they are cool with AO rating though they are bit surprised because most of the time AO rating is for more or less porn.

Difference between PEGI and ESRB is that in US most of companies like walmart don't stock AO games (same policy has for example Apple)
PEGI is europen based rating board and in EU no one gives a fuck about what rating game gets.

Why do I have the feeling after all of this the game will be mediocre at best?

Oh yes, I understand that (to be honest, they were delusional if they thought this game'd get a console/retail release), I'm just asking whether or not the AO rating'd really hamstring a steam release as badly as people are saying it would.
