Better: the controversy caused by the whining makes everyone buy the game and Gaben starts to actively look for the sickest games he can find, skipping Greenlight completely as it almost caused him a loss of major $$$. :M
Personally I can't wait for Love Love Imouto Busters DX: ~Little Sister Semen Inferno~ Paradise Special Edition to get released on Steam.

I've been wondering. Assuming that all the sex scenes are edited out, can Steam ever release Demonophobia?

After that comment I had to watch a Let's Play on YouTube.

Now I want my wasted lifetime back. :|

There are tons of even more sick shit in Japan. Playing Hatred seems like a walk in the Disneyland compared to a lot of the Japanese games. And a lot of these games are actually banned or never ever allowed to be released in Japan and anywhere else.

If Hatred can be sold on Steam, it will be interesting to see in future how further will people try to push in the sickness of games. People may start to ask for greenlighting Japanese guro games. Technically speaking, these games have nothing that western games don't have - torture, dismemberment, mass murder, blood & gore, etc. It's just that flaying anime girls alive just feel much more disturbing than seeing Isaac Clark being sliced in pieces. So for this logic, I don't see why these games can't follow the same path as Hatred - ask to be greenlit, got taken down because of the content, gamers cry out because "that's agaisnt freedum blah blah", game got back on Steam, etc.
Demonophobia and other heavy ryona games are usually made by a rather secretive community as freeware, heavily password access to the games and usually ban foreigners, although games like hanakanmuri were put on retail on Jap online doujin stores. Although Cyclet and Tinkerbell make guro and are considered mainstream eroge devs. I totally don't play these games btw rlly.

Fortunately steam has the good old no sexual content clause to keep it safe from nip degeneracy.

I think Gabe's decision was at least partly influenced by maintaining public relations with Steam users. Greenlight has its foundation on the idea that it's the people who choose what can and cannot be allowed on to steam, though ultimately this is mostly an illusion, as Valve has the final say on what flies and what doesn't, 'just the first citizen' and all that. If a game can get such an overwhelming approval from its userbase and still get rejected by Valve shakes that confidence considerably. Why bother voting when it's clear that Valve willing to reject your decision regardless of how much of a majority makes it?

I don't think that would be possible, there wouldn't be too many people defending guro. Hatred is something that appeals to the normalfag average joe gamer while guro appeals to pervs. It's would be harder to defend pervy games than something that people can percieve as "art". And "Hatred" kind of already is on Steam, it's called Postal.

Don't see what the big deal is. I used to play Schoolyard Slaughter on the Atari ST back in the eighties. People are so sensitive these days, it's annoying.

There's games out there where you can play as an animu Ramsay Bolton?! Fuck Hatred, we need to greenlight that instead.

Reading all these "gib sjw/muslim/baldie/cyclist npcs to kill" comments is the only thing that doesn't click with me - what's in your head if you want to roleplay killing a specific group? Maybe you're not a killer, but most likely you're a huge jerk.

they're trolling

I heard from other gamedevs that Steam want to catch Hatred devs in AO-rating trap. I dunno if it is true.

Games with the AO rating are considered by the board to be unsuitable for those seventeen and younger; AO-rated games can contain higher levels of violent, profane, sexual, or pornographic content than the Mature (M) rating (the next-lowest on the scale) can accommodate. AO is the highest and most restrictive of the ESRB's content ratings, and dramatically impacts the commercial availability of games which carry it; all three major video game consolemanufacturers (Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony Computer Entertainment) refuse to allow AO-rated games to be published for their platforms, and most retailers refuse to stock AO-rated games. Due to these self-imposed restrictions on the marketing and distribution of games with the rating, the AO rating has been described as a "kiss of death" by critics.

So how exactly will Steam enforce AO? The same way they enforce M? Hyuk, hyuk.

Steam doesn't publish AO games. Example: Manhunt 2 (uncut version)

So if Steam will ask Hatred devs to do ESRB rating they will be fucked.

If this is all true chances that Hatred will be published on Steam are 0% but it won't be a decision made by Steam.

Hatred reminds me of finnish amiga game from the mid 90s, Damage.

Jesus, the Codex's knowledge of obscure games has no limits. I knew there was a "Hatred-like" game in 2D that was released long, long, ago, but I couldn't remember the name until I saw this video. Thanks for the reminder!

I doubt Hatred will get an AO rating. Things like Outlast, and its expansion in which you can see your own dick and someone tries to castrate and rape you, get M ratings.

Well it is not that simple: penis = AO rating. Context of a penis and overall impressions of an appearance of a penis in the game are important. Not every nudity is the same.

To obtain a rating for a game, a publisher submits a detailed questionnaire and a DVD containing footage of the most graphic and extreme content found in the game to the ESRB, including content related to the game's context, storyline, reward system, unlockable and otherwise "hidden" content, and other elements that may affect its rating. They may also provide printed copies of the game's script and lyrics from songs in the game. The footage is reviewed by a team of at least three raters, who discuss what the most appropriate and "helpful" rating for the game would be, based off the footage and details provided. Raters represent various demographics, including parents, along with casual and "hardcore" gamers.

I mean to say that seeing your own dick and someone trying to castrate and rape you are in the same moments of the game.

There is another moment I now recall where you stumble upon a corpse or maybe two that has been heavily mutilated so that the victim's head is placed in a large gaping wound where his penis should be, to mimic a birth scene.
