Not even particularly interested in this since its not an RPG but voted on GOG. Hope they pick it up and sell a shit ton of copies so I can laugh at Steam's mistake.

I like how people are making a big deal of a game that's a clone of one that was released 15 years ago. Have we really degraded to the point we're rehashing controversies?

yes http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parents_Music_Resource_Center
The PMRC also released the Filthy Fifteen, a list of the 15 songs they found most objectionable:

#ArtistSong titleLyrical content
1Prince"Darling Nikki"Sex/Masturbation
2Sheena Easton"Sugar Walls"Sex

Fuck yeah, Annah at #2

People have pointed out the removal, while keeping games with similiar violent content, is illegal in the EU (where Valve has an office and does business, this decision effects business in and the developers are).

Of couse, so was not being able to resell your digital game so...

Fucking Steam, why are you doing this? And for those posting videos of The Punisher, it doesn't count since it is a "relatively old" game and thus no-one plays it anymore. Meanwhile, Mortal Kombat is in Steam without censorship of any kind :M

While the shitstorm may be fun to follow (and it's weak of STEAM to remove it), from those interviews the dev just comes across as a gigantic tard. Cemented when I saw the picture of him.

Talk about riding the controversy, and of course the Codex is there to fellate them. Tsk tsk.

I genuinely hope that Steam removing this from greenlight makes someone so mad that they go on an actual real life killing spree.

I think the problem is that they show the victims plead for their lives, cry etc. and killing is not only the bare neccesities, buy stuff like shoving a gun into someone's face. That's a whole lot different than casual "popping helmets" in Payday 2.

There are ton of games where enemies die with a simple "eh" as soon as bullets/blade/etc. hits. Even games with realistic graphics still serve cartoony violence. It makes something really messy look appealing.

I'm not interested in playing Hatred, but at least it looks more honest about death/suffering than most stuff released so far.

GTA has exactly that npc behavior, too, but Hatred just shoves a masochist and emo protagonist into it. And because it evokes the stereotype of a young male mass-murderer like breivik or klebold that hates society, it drives people into a moralistic panic. Because the stereotypical gaming, world hating mass murderer has been turned into such a caricature that this comparison is even possible.

This game is less offensive than Payday 2, a game that's constantly plastered on steam with sales and DLC.

- In Hatred normals will feel uneasy and unsure of their actions as their victims cry out for help and suffer.

- In Payday 2 normals are granted EXP, money and other rewards for literally slaying cops and stealing shit.

Fucking pathetic on Valve's part. I'm earnestly ashamed to be such a heavy steam user with them doing hypocritical shit like this. Not to mention Postal 1 had to go through greenlight IIRC and this is literally just Postal 1 with slightly better graphics.

You mean GTA5? I've not played it (probably won't based on 4), only know about the torture scene, but you know - it's that "context". All the other GTAs are cartoon crap.

Devil is in the details. There's so much sanctioned reasons to kill and only so much things that make people's blood curl.

Murdering fictional characters. Killing pixels.
Some people hang up "it's fiction", "it's just some notes", "it's just paint" when experiencing art - it makes stuff more enjoyable for them.

I have no problem with games like Hatred, I enjoy japanese rape porn etc. I wouldn't call people opposing it hypocritical, it's more a case of inconsistence, drawing lines based on feelz and not figuring out what actually is happening.

Hatred does some things differently than what we are used to, so we have to oppose it :)

Shitty decision from Steam, there was an outcry that GTA V was banned in some retails but this is somehow too much? Good PR for the potatoes though as now all the cool kids want to buy the game that was too hardcore for Steam.

Yeah, I'd be more inclined in banning games that trivialize mass murder. Killing a living being shouldn't be a pleasant activity, at least if your game strives for a high degree of "realism" in it. If you're committing genocide, it shouldn't be clean and painless.

Don't give Gaben and Steam any ideas or we might never have any more grand strategy games in Steam anymore :argh:

It's fascinating how Hatred doesn't do anything new in the violence department, but because of some details it pushes the right buttons to piss off modern moral guardians who would be ok with this game if it had a different tone and style (see Hotline Miami).
The main character doesn't seem to have any motive for slaughter except for misanthropy, but he looks like someone that could be posting on /pol/. I can imagine sjws fearing that Hatred could be enjoyed by angsty white edgelords who would LARP that they're punishing the degenerate, liberal, politically correct etc society. Or maybe it's just the reminiscence of the Columbine guys, trenchcoat, edgyness, metal (well there's no metal or rock in the game but the devs look like metal fans). The realism and lack of jokes, funny memes, popculture references and other stupid quirky, nerdy crap probably also contributes to the butthurt.
