This dude sucks though, there's no need to be fucking hitting walls or engaging workers. Just fly in and place the damn bombs. It does make a point that you don't need to be particularly great to do the mission, however.

By the way, some people are probably unaware that unlocking framerate in 3/VC/SA makes those games harder and some missions nearly impossible. I wonder if a lot of complaints come from that.

My least favorite missions in older GTA games are the ones with lots of shooting, because shooting is where they truly suck. Not saying GTAIV has great combat, but shooting controls are huge improvement over 3/VC/SA.
I think SA has the best combat of the bunch. VC and especially GTA3 suffered from that horrible lag when shooting (you press MB1 and watch as your character s l o w l y draws his gun and fires while being rooted to the spot for the whole time), but SA fixed that with the aiming system and also added a bunch of other very welcome improvements, like proper crouching and rolling. GTAIV mostly has the same mechanics, but it also has the cover system which pretty much makes all combat trivial. You can just sit behind cover and shoot everyone to death without putting yourself at a risk at any time. The levels are also often so cramped that not using the cover system constantly leads to the camera getting stuck behind corners or your character's back blocking the view, which is just infuriating.

Actually, I never used cover system in IV single player, it was clearly made for gamepads because shooting sections are a breeze with kb/m even without using cover. And in multiplayer cover system wasn't very effective either, you could get easily shot with your hands sticking out, I ended up using it only for throwing grenades.
I agree that SA has best controls of the previous three. You can actually walk when crouched! That shit annoys the fuck out of me in VC.

The Vice City toy helicopter mission wasn't 1/100th as rage inducing as the MULTIPLE FUCKING FORCED aircraft missions in San Andreas, each of which was a razor-barbed dick in the ass. The toy helicopter is also one of the easier to control aircraft in SA, considering it's kind of slow and small.

Thankfully, GTA4 made aircraft handling way easier and didn't put in so fucking many missions either. In fact, I'm not sure if there were any aircraft missions in GTA4 apart from the final mission's helicopter chase.

Planes in GTA5 work well enough, but the helicopters? Holy shit. They are unsteady as fuck and require constant correction to make them fly where you want them to - even with flying skill maxed out. Really fucking frustrating.
So Rockstar still can't do helicopters, I guess.

I remember The Ballad of Gay Tony had a heli mission where you had to use the new little bird chopper to take out a bunch of boats. Having to manually aim at a bunch of moving targets with no lock on or auto-hover, in a manner which often forced you to try and aim straight-down while desperately hoping you don't fling yourself hopelessly out of control, was annoying as fuck.

Gay... Annoying... Served you well, you didn't get the clue from the name of the game. What about the rest of the game, was it funny and better than main story?

Aircraft controls are clunky in GTAs, but manageable once you figure how to distribute your fingers.
If any mission makes me mad, it's not any helicopter-involving, but there is exactly one in each GTA3. In LC it's where you have to destroy coke stands all over the map on time limit, in VC it's one with racing to get bank heist driver, and in SA it's with jumping from plane to plane.

Also, I think that LC aged very well and has the best atmosphere.

Espresso 2 Go. Hardest mission in 3D GTA IMO.

Oh yeah, Toy aeroplane mission in VC where you bomb Cuban boats and a car for the Haitians is annoying even after learning how to fly the thing.

Moo?
Must be an instance where gamepads really do make a difference, then. I used to snooze through VC's radio-controlled heli and plane missions back when I had the PS2 version, followed by the much superior Xbox copy.

Anyway, they'll apparently be showing off more next gen footage tomorrow...so check back then I guess.

Hopefully the first person mode will make the gun sections not so fucking horrible. Will flip to third person for the driving, though.

I may not even bother with the PC version because of how utterly horrific the port of GTA4 was.

Oh fuck that looks absolutely lovely. If the FPS controls are slick it could be a dream game come true for me.
No :d1p:for me, I'm gonna pre-purchase that shit as soon as possible.:bounce:

The shooting mechanics are based on popamole console cover shootan though. Experiencing that through first person is never not awkward. And yeah, gotta have third person for vehicle control because first person limits situational awareness too much, unless you have a triple monitor setup or stupidly-high fov to gather peripheral info. (It'd be nice if there was an option to have on-foot be first person by default, and have in-vehicle default to third person.) Also, I keep my vehicle camera position set to "high" in this game, otherwise you can't see what's in front of you very well. I'm really interested in seeing how well they pull this off, considering all the competing factors.

It's amazing how well optimized this game is on console. I can't believe that old-ass hardware is capable of running this game at all. It seems impossible that they could fuck PC optimization up. (Definitely not gonna buy it until I know for sure though.)
