I love the pirate music for that area, favourite track in the game.

I will say tho, G3's soundtrack is p damn good and fits the wandering atmosphere of it all so well

You see a broken cannon with cannonballs near Cavalorn right outside of Xardas' tower at the start of Gothic 2. I think there's a cannon in Khorinis too near the docks. Also after switching from Nvidia to AMD the DX11 renderer seems to have started crashing which is unfortunate because it made the forests look really nice and spooky.

I know Gothic 3 disappointed a lot of people from what I've read, but I also saw that for some who tried the game with the community patch first they liked it. I I'm a sucker for well made worlds though so I'm probably gonna love it anyway, and I want to complete the story.

(Forgot to mention that I did play it for a few hours some time ago but everyone knows you can't judge a Gothic game that fast.)

I played Gothic 3 right when it came out and was disappointed as hell. However, I recently started playing it again with the community patch and have been having an amazing time with it. The rebalancing they have done is really noticeable and adds a lot of fun challenge to what used to be a stupidly easy and exploitable game. I would highly recommend that people give it a shot if they haven't played Gothic 3 in many years.

Gunpowder largely predates the time period typically mimicked in medieval RPG settings, there was never anything wrong with it, we just tend to unconsciously (and erroneously) dissociate it with the era. Technological stagnation makes sense when magic is available, at least with the early fantasy settings that everyone has been copying for the past decades, but some works including them are completely justified.

Where does the dislike for gunpowder come from? Because Tolkien didn't have it so it feels non-canon, like you said? Because people associate it with "modern" and therefore detrimental to escapism?

In the German The Dark Eye, gunpowder doesn't really exist and fans are quite adamant about it, which leads to rather unbelievable mechanical devices filling that role.

G3 is a decent game with the Community Patch. The music is excellent and the areas are gorgeous. I liked how the huge world was populated by animals and you could always find something interesting by exploring. Sure, there are some escorting quests where the retarded AI makes you want to punch the screen, most quests are generic MMO "fetch me 10 of these" and the game still lags sometimes but it's still worth playing. At least the first area until you get to the desert.

Gunpowder quite literally destroyed the medieval world in Europe. It's the first sign of the Industrial Revolution, in a way, and Tolkien was adamantly against it. I guess that's where it comes from.

I like how Gorn, after having spent years in the mining colony (long before the orcish occupation of Myrtana), and without any association with the King's Paladins, instantly leads you to the secret hideout of the resistance.

That's why you play G3 only with cp and modded with quest package.

In my opinion, no community patch can really bring the game back to the heights of G1+2, because the game's fundamental issues went beyond the unfinished state it was released in.
That's not to say it's bad precisely -- it's still a pretty solid open world game *when you compare it to the majority of other open world games*. The problem is that PB decided to go for breadth over depth in the world design, backing away a bit for the hyper-detailed, Ultima-esque world designs of the first two games, and edging towards TES territory (though thankfully not getting all the way there). It's still basically a Gothic game, but even with the patch still falls short of the series' heights.

Guys, there's something that keeps bugging me every now and then.
Arcania or Oblivion, which one is better less shitty and why?
Seriously, I need a good comparison from Codexian RPG Gourmands. :positive:

This.

Having only played Gothic 3 with just the Community patch, it is still easily one of the worst games i ever played. I spent god knows how many fucking hours trying to fix the graphic problems and just couldn't figure out what was wrong. Eventually i just gave up and tried to play through it, but everything just felt off. The controls were wonky, writing was bad, voice acting was awful etc. etc. Everything just felt wrong.

If it was that bad with the community patch, i can't even begin to imagine how terrible it must have been without...

There is another mod in the works for Gothic 3 called the Community Story Project. Admirable what they're doing, shame it's 10 years too late. It will be interesting to see how well they fix the game's butchered plot.

What is the Community Story Project?
The Community Story Project is a project with the aim to improve and extend the somewhat meager parts of Gothic 3, especially the story. If you wish to get a better overview on the planned changes you may have a look at our concept.

Gothic3... played since release, got nice discount by sending photo to publisher. Or was it Risen contest?
Anyway - I upgraded my PC 4 times through the decade and G3 still don't work well.
I still played G3 more than all TES games (especially Skyrim) combined.
There was combat tweak in some patches but it's either mashing button attack or get overwhelmed. Didn't found valid tactic nor get time for this shit.

So I just reinstalled Gothic. Only Player Kit, System Kit, and the new render. No texture upgrades.

I have an issue, though. It's VSync. Is it possible to enable it? The tearing is driving me nuts.

And I still can't find some controls I'm comfortable with. I would kill for a mouse to control the camera and left-click as Action button, mostly the former as I feel the camera doesn't help a lot of times.

You can control the camera / turn around with the mouse. Leftklick works as well, kinda. You only have to hold leftklick and you need to press a second key (w) to take an action.

Thanks fam. So far Gothic seems interesting, I particularly like how alive it feels.

You could also hold down R and use the arrow keys to look down ledges and things like that. Also pressing R while moving will rotate your camera behind you which is useful if you are being chased.
