Ah alright, I guess I'm still confused at threadstarter's post. This is a silly rumor to think about. If anything, Bioware brand is being cloned over and over by EA, it's even used in creating a new studio, was it Bioware Victory which is developing Command & Conquer: Generals?

I would loooove for Bioware to go down flaming and their time will come but for now they won't go anywhere. Their games still make some profits as mentioned and their role has expanded so they are clearly close to the EA leadership. Given how incestuous today's video game industry is, EA will probably run out of money and go bankrupt before Bioware is ever closed down, and even then, EA will be touting its Bioware IP portfolio during the fire sale.

EA bought Bioware for 860 million dollars. Not only are they barely turning a profit on the games they've released.......

ME1 might have made some money.
DAO probably close to break even. 6-7 years in development, huge ad campaign. Sold what 4 million?
ME2 probably pretty successful.
DA2 flop both commercially and with the core fans and some media. 2 million (at best) on 3 platforms for a AAA release. FAIL.
SWTOR lets see what the numbers are like in 6 months.
ME3 Day one DLC that is very important to the story, nearly mandatory online missions, 2.6 on metacritic (demonstrating a lot of pissed off fans and bad press) sales will suffer.

and on and on and on.......

As I was saying.... not only are they barely making money on the games they've released, EA sure as hell isn't getting a return on their 860 million dollar investment.

The ship is taking on water fast.

Oh ya................roofees.

Come at me bro!!

And the solution is to close Bioware down or sell it away ASAP?
Sorry new guy, I don't buy this argument. Taking in water fast? An 860mil investment and you want it to pay off in less than 10 years? Easy shit.

Be realistic, Bioware is in danger of running out of good will, but not going out of business. The amount of new followers they get per year is going to make up for that. Vicious cycle of hype > day one purchase will continue, becoming gradually less and less effective as time goes, but it's not closing down any time soon. Not even in the next 10 years. But it's okay, continue to masturbate to the possibility of Gaider going out of job, becoming a cheap fantasy romance novelist and Chris Priestly going back to his celeb bodyguard job or making guest appearance at Epic Meal Time on Tuesdays. It's stimulating, like expecting some hot chick's bra to fall off in the full view of the train.

Everytime somebody predicts the death of BioWare, another million units of Gay-Volus-Turian-Sex DLC gets sold.

BioWare will only go under if they start making excellent games again - because at that point, nobody of the masses will want to play them anymore.

What if Bioware made games with superlative tactical turn-based gameplay (think ToEE, KoTC) and lots of meaningful C&C, but stocked it full of the worst crap possible from their brilliant writer team (hamfisted gay romances, EMOTIONAL ENGAGEMENT) and piled on the power of a multi-million dollar marketing campaign?

Would the masses still buy it? I think they would. Never underestimate the power of marketing. The same person eagerly praising real-time action and rubbishing turn-based would - after getting his mind blown by ads/paid opinion pieces - be touting the greatness of turn-based and thinking real-time action is for people who have nothing to offer beyond twitch reflexes.

I think the more interestig question would be if all the spurned-lovers-gone-Bioware-haters on the Codex would buy it...

(10/10) I'm a coloured dutch lesbian girl and I absolutely love this game, as a coloured lesbian girl I really think Bioware overdid themself with their exceptional writing by Hepler. Gaming is moving forwards towards a bigger audience and I really think us females are gonna be playing a big part in that. As a coloured lesbian I think it's great the time of witty stereotype blonde white male heroes have ended. Gaming is, ofcourse, a huge medium and it's great that developers support the idea of tolerance towards Gays, People of colour and Transgenders. As a coloured lesbian girl I give this game a 9/10, I hope it'll be an example for other developers

Not new. Been here since 2005. Just got a new user ID.

Let's get a few things straight:

1. I have nothing against Bioware.
2. There will be no masturbating over the closure of Bioware. (The one in Canada, is the only one I'm talking about.)
3. I don't really blame Bio for any of this. EA makes them drink this kool-ade, but the formula ain't working.
4. Past history. EA is a studio shutting down bunch of mother fuckers. Under perform and you die. Bio is under performing.
5. Never underestimate the creative ways accountants can make closing a studio look good for the bottom line.
6. If I were Gayderps boss, I would put on my best flame retardant suit and fire him, by actually lighting him on fire. Then repeatedly kick him in the balls, until they completely turned into ashes, for the way he treats fans, paying customers, and acting like he's some sort of rock star in the gaming industry. (Get fuckin real you shitty little worm of a man.)

7. Bioware/EA just can't seem to stop shooting themselves in the foot with their fans.

I know people have been predicting the demise of Bio for a long time, but a this rate I don't see why EA would keep them open. The engaging story with super action elements and push awesome button to win (COD crowd) formula didn't work.

The writing is on the wall.

The end is nigh.

To be honest, to me CC was always about the cutscenes - the game part was pretty boring even by RTS standards. Especially in the Tiberian Sun. I wouldn't mind simply playing a C&C interactive movie.

Not much of a prediction. EA always burn down the studios they buy. First they suck out all the life out of the ip, then they toss away the empty shell. It's been standard policy for the past twenty years. What amazes me is not them doing it but people still thinking they won't and devs still happily selling out to join them.

Eh.

Imagine the sum of jewgoldz it would take you to betray your principles, sell the good name of something you've poured blood, sweat and tears into turning into a successful brand and seeing your baby dragged through the mud.

Now add 30% to that amount.

That's how much EA can afford to pay you if they decide the trainwreck might turn them a profit before they tire of toying with it.

Fallout New Vegas sold 5mil, which is more than any of the ME and it wasn't an interactive movie made to please the Call of Duty crowds or the talimancers. EA will destroy bioware if they can't win with what is basically a third person shooters with cutscenes and now a multiplayer mode. EA has destroyed most of their acquisitions, the only studio that has survived worth mentionning is Dice and only because EA wants to make a more successful FPS than CoD.
