Don't get me wrong, as pulp goes 40k is fairly entertaining. But I wouldn't go as far as to call it good scifi.

Yeah, I have to clarify that I'm asking for examples of good Sci-Fi, not necessarily good games.

In which case only Alpha centauri and games based on Crichton's works qualify.

There's a Randevouz with Rama adventure game. I'll challenge anyone who'd claim that this is a bad sci-fi to a chopsticks death match. (There are no sequels to the book, what are you talking about? Gentry Lee died of infant death syndrom at the tender age of 2 months I CAN'T HEAR YOU LALALA)

Well I wouldn't exactly call it "solid sci-fi" as I was being like edgy and stuff, but it's a pretty lulzy concept and they actually sci-fi-ify it. As much as you can sci-fi-ify a shark fused with an elephant. Or an Eaglecheetah

It's Relic by the way, so it's a decent game.

    Sorry for offtopic, bros.

Oh, I understand why you would hate it. It's slow and nothing much happens and certainly nothing is explained, but I enjoyed the exploration of a completely alien system quite a lot.

Oh, I'd almost forgotten -- there were two (very good) adventure games made based on Frederick Pohl's Gateway universe. Probably the best example I can think of.

I'm quite sure I heard someone mention 'Mission Critical' but I might have been sipping a beer at the time. I have to give two thumbs up for whoever mentioned 'Gateway'. Yeah!

Gateway is based on Frederick Pohls 'Heechee' series. Its a bit of a hybrid between more modern point and click and oldschool text output. I haven't played it in many years but it's a great story, closer to hard sci-fi. Highly recommended.

Star Control. Sometimes lulzy, but pretty good for a video game.

    Speedball 2.

What do you mean it's not science fiction?

Abuse (shut up, i think environments and homages count as setting)

In that vein, Another world and Flashback

    Homeworld of course.

People call Dune science fiction (but they're wrong, so it doesn't count)

Azrael's Tear certainly (though it's very sparse on it's future or science, looking more to the past)

BAT 1 and BAT 2, i suppose, with it's alien city and comic book like UI.
(And if those Beneath a Steel Sky)

Blade Runner, without a shadow of a doubt

Darkseed, is i suppose a sort of science-fiction/horror.

Dreamweb seems like a near future sci-fi that never was (our world is more advanced by now, but when it came out, it seemed that it was "10 years into the future"

Inca and Inca 2 is derp science fiction (oh, you wanted good ones, skipping lots now)

A mind forever voyaging, murders in space (others near future that never was... well, AMFV was pretty accurate actually).

    Manhunter (but it's weird)

Superhero League of Hoboken (NY postapocalyptic/comic/wellwritten)

    The Dig (no introduction needed)

    Albion (magic )

Master of Orion 1 & 2 & 3 (if you want the setting)

Midwinter 1 & 2 (nice postapocalyptic ice archipelago setting)

Syndicate and Syndicate Wars (cyberpunk dictatorship aesthetic)

I remember a post-apocalyptic game that i never played (it was Transartica i think, that train management game), just because i remembered from a review that it had one of those "object in gameworld" interfaces and the way to quit/restart the game without the power button (which was pretty safe on the amiga due to no disk access), was to click on the drawer in the desk, and click on the gun to commit suicide.

    It's the little things.
