They should be given out in contest IMO. Been a long time since the Codex ran contests.
i.e. write a short Wasteland themed story, post pictures from some obscure pornoshoot you were in, etc.

OK then, in that case it makes sense. Use it to stimulate donations and to choose the people who will get the 30 DD copies. DU gets to retain the sausage as long as he's acting Codex admin. What happens with the rest of the stuff? The rest of the stuff (if I haven't missed anything) being:

autographed Collector's Edition game
Novella (Part 1)
Novella (Part 2)
collectable coin
lv5 Desert Ranger medal
Wasteland Doomsday Preparation Survival Kit bag

DD soundtrack
DD concept art book
Steam beta

Taluntain just mentioned that donation policy currently has all donations as private, so looks like it won't pan out that way after all.

Those stuff could be auctioned to pay for server costs. Since we're doing this for Wasteland 2 and the Codex I don't think anyone should mind if they paid a thousand and the admins squeezed them even more for Day 0 collectibles.

That's a fair proposal as well. And it may even bring in some good money for the Codex. Imagine how "Wasteland 2 signed Collector's Edition" would sound on eBay compared with "The RPG Codex Wasteland 2 signed Collector's Edition". That would be something truly unique!:)

Treading water, but at least it's warm
If we could have a statue/shrine with the handles of all who donated in Codexia's honor, that would be pretty cool.

Did my duty and donated $15. :salute: Got the 6-month account upgrade with the understanding it's actually going towards the Codex Wasteland Shrine Fund. Also, I figure that's the easiest way to get it tied to my account. Concur that the goodies should be given out via contest, like the short story contests from times past.

It has already been ordained, that the plaque beneath the statue shall read as follows:

"The plaque underneath this monocled statue reads 'King of Codexia, slayer of popamole'. You can't help but think that this statue looks quite a bit like a troll, but sometimes it is hard to tell."

Just used my brother's card to donate $100 towards the statue. Hope he won't mind. :P (He won't.)

As for the text to accompany the statue (or rather the shrine, as per Fargo's reply: "a codex shrine"), I suggest we discuss it in a separate thread after we've collected the moneys. Personally, I don't like the "slayer of popamole" bit; "popamole" is just too much of an in-joke. I'd rather have something akin to what commie suggested earlier ITT: something more neutral, favourable and generally understandable not only to Codexers.

I also like the idea of a contest to distribute the goodies.

I... I just came.

Aye, pledge money and you may loose your life savings. Stay silent now, and you'll live to play Diablo VII. Dying in our beds, many years from now, would we be willing to trade all the days, from this day to that, for one chance - just one chance - to come back here and tell the popamole right in it's ugly face that it may take our lives, but it'll never take... OUR MONOCLES!

Rise my brothers, rise as one and incline the gaming world once again! Restore the RPG genre to the glory of old by showing Publishers, Investors and Developers that there are still many people out there that care.

Brace yourself for incline is coming.

Awesome.

Also its negotiable, people. Which means you can give up on some unnecessary items and get more of something else AND if we/you get a good idea for a shrine or "something else".

We should have a campaign or something. "Post your penis for Wasteland. For every penis, Jaesun donates $50."

Could do the same for tits, but we have a shortage of those.

Yes! You bought Mass Effect 3 Deluxe edition or something, so you should donate at least the same amount towards the Codex shrine. ;)

Those two are different things, Bee. I've never been emotionally engaged by Wastelands, I mean, I played Fallouts - but Wasteland, not really. It's a blank slate for me.
Gimme a month to decide. :P I'm a little pessimistic about hitting the $5,000 required. All the big guns have fired their loads. Now things are gonna start trickling in. The game. Hmmm. Bee, LP Wastelands please and I'll donate. :D

A monocled statue of Avellone's art work with a top hat and cane would do nicely.

Hey, if everyone is going to be pessimistic, that'd be bad! Everyone should donate -- and we'll be there eventually! Who cares if you played Wasteland? The rule is simple: you have moneyz, you donate. It's for the glory of the Codex.

:rpgcodex:

Also, Jimbob already did a Wasteland LP. Donate for Jimbob!

I just gave it a glance. Bard's Tale combat? Are they doing it like that in the sequel?

Nope, they're making it more tactical, with positioning and the like. Many people want something akin to JA2's combat, but we don't really know what the devs will go for at this point. It won't be blob, though, that much we can be sure of.

Also, by donating towards the statue/shrine, you're supporting the Codex first and foremost.
