Fundraising $5000 for a Codex shrine in Wasteland 2

1) Some folks in the news thread are still confused about this

2) People would like a running tally (counter)

I think it was said both by DU and by Bee on both threads, but if you think it helps, maybe saying it again won't hurt. "All the money paid to the Codex PayPal account during the W2 Kickstarter will be used exclusively for that."

That would be, indeed, great. If it is technically possible without having to put too much time/effort into getting it to work, it would be a very welcome addition.

This I don't agree with, though. It feels too much like a dick measuring contest. The whole thing is not about who donates more but about getting together to do something to support the incline/stop the decline of the RPG genre and to leave a mark in there saying that we were there when the decline stopped and we were among those who made it happen.

Yeah I see your side of it, I just thought the 3rd idea might bring out some friendly competition to push us over the hump.

Also, I think there's 30 digital copies given to the 5k pledge? So, it may be just to ensure they get a copy.

Yes, but that's still better than you or DU having to write posts with status updates (that can be overlooked) in the various threads. If the counter is at the top of each page, it will be much easier to keep track of things,

Yeah, the digital copies were what I had in mind, not as a measure of how filthy rich certain Codexers are or for attention-seeking purposes. I know I wouldn't make the list anyway. As long as we don't plan anything like having the top 30 being given special benefits such as having their names and their names only listed on the in-game statue, I think it's fair enough.

OK then, in that case it makes sense. Use it to stimulate donations and to choose the people who will get the 30 DD copies. DU gets to retain the sausage as long as he's acting Codex admin. What happens with the rest of the stuff? The rest of the stuff (if I haven't missed anything) being:

They should be given out in contest IMO. Been a long time since the Codex ran contests.
i.e. write a short Wasteland themed story, post pictures from some obscure pornoshoot you were in, etc.

Taluntain just mentioned that donation policy currently has all donations as private, so looks like it won't pan out that way after all.

Those stuff could be auctioned to pay for server costs. Since we're doing this for Wasteland 2 and the Codex I don't think anyone should mind if they paid a thousand and the admins squeezed them even more for Day 0 collectibles.

That's a fair proposal as well. And it may even bring in some good money for the Codex. Imagine how "Wasteland 2 signed Collector's Edition" would sound on eBay compared with "The RPG Codex Wasteland 2 signed Collector's Edition". That would be something truly unique!

If we could have a statue/shrine with the handles of all who donated in Codexia's honor, that would be pretty cool.

Did my duty and donated $15. Got the 6-month account upgrade with the understanding it's actually going towards the Codex Wasteland Shrine Fund. Also, I figure that's the easiest way to get it tied to my account. Concur that the goodies should be given out via contest, like the short story contests from times past.

It has already been ordained, that the plaque beneath the statue shall read as follows:

Also its negotiable, people. Which means you can give up on some unnecessary items and get more of something else AND if we/you get a good idea for a shrine or "something else".

We should have a campaign or something. "Post your penis for Wasteland. For every penis, Jaesun donates $50."

Those two are different things, Bee. I've never been emotionally engaged by Wastelands, I mean, I played Fallouts - but Wasteland, not really. It's a blank slate for me.
Gimme a month to decide. I'm a little pessimistic about hitting the $5,000 required. All the big guns have fired their loads. Now things are gonna start trickling in. The game. Hmmm. Bee, LP Wastelands please and I'll donate.

If you go for an ingame item then it HAS to be monocle of some kind.

A monocled statue of Avellone's art work with a top hat and cane would do nicely.
