Talking about gui, whoever put those 2 flex spaces near the address bar should be fired for good measure.

At least you can remove them easily.
Otherwise new Firefox runs pretty good.
Still lacking some extensions, but I'm not using many nowadays (and even less that are deprecated now) anyway.

    that doubles as spyware

wasn't their goal to replace normal ads with their own that also provide extensive tracking to ad networks? all advertisement is immoral and should be purged, just use adnauseam

I stopped using firefox two months ago due to a memory leak it had that made impossible to surf on the internet, with each page (I repeat, not tab with various windows, just a page) draining 1 gb of my ram. After having opened two pages of facebook, one google page and rpg codex, it meant 4 gb being drained, not counting the other stuff that I got on background.

    https://www.google.it/search?q=fire.....69i57j0l5.2185j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

Right now, Chrome is draining 400 mb of my ram, and is as fast as ever.

Leaving automatic updates on was a mistake. Sure, it's faster, but browsing without noscript is hell. :negative:

I switched to the extended support release version where the old addons still work. Based off FF 52 something or whatever it was.
    https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/faq/
Will wait until noscript and request policy continued finally make it to the new format before going to ff 57+ ...

    And yeah, fucking autoupdate.

Adblock in new firefox is now the same feature-stripped crap it is in Chrome. No list of blockable elements.

I guess Chrome won by forcing FF to turn into a carbon copy of itself. :negative:

Are you talking about a built-in adblock or about adblock plus/ublock origins?

Adblock plus. I just launched my old instance of FF to check something (where adblock has autoupdated apparently), and instead of proper UI saw the Chrome ABP abomination. Went on to read and apparently the new FF completely rapes the flexibility that made old extensions possible.

Been using quantum for a while. Mixed feelings. It's not that much different from just using Chrome at this point but I think it's the least shitty browser since it's FOSS, up to date with standards and doesn't use as much ram as Chrom* browsers.

Having been burned by malware-that-installed-itself twice (the second time after adblock failed me), I will do whatever I can to make sure it doesn't happen again.

OK faggits, this thread inspired me to finally get off my lazy ass and ditch Chrome. Using Brave and the migration process was 100% painless. All my Chrome data seems to be here. Will stick with Brave until something actually credible is presented against this particular browser.

how about the fact that they inject their own ads and advertise their browser as providing unique data for advertisers (such as your browsing history)

It's the opposite for me with Firefox. The 'dex had become a completely unusable slugfest using Firefox on three different toasters. On my laptop pagescroll was a crawl, constant semi-freezes and a 10 seconds lag while typing. I thought it was just the button parade, but even without logging in (or javascript) it was still crappy.

I wanted to stay a rebel, I really did. But... sacrifices had to be made for the 'dex. :(
Decided to test Chrome. Runs smooth as butter. Google knows I am here now. Sad.

    Glory to the 'dex! :salute:

(I am open for better suggestions of course)
