Fear the Wolves announcement
Wed, 02/07/2018 - 15:36
Focus Home Interactive and former S.T.A.L.K.E.R. developers announce Fear the Wolves, a post-apocalyptic Battle Royale game for 2018.

In development for several months, Focus Home Interactive and Vostok Games – the developing team behind the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. franchise – chose the annual press event "Le What's Next de Focus" taking place in Paris on February 7-8, to unveil Fear the Wolves, the post-apocalyptic First Person Shooter Battle Royale. Releasing in 2018, the game will offer a new and original take on the growing Battle Royale genre.

Fear the Wolves drops players, in squads or as lone wolves, into the oppressive environments of a radiation-ravaged Chernobyl. The classic Battle Royale mode forces them to fight to be the last man standing out of 100 fighters. Another intense and original game mode will also bring a fierce new twist to the genre.

To secure the top spot, players will need to worry about more than just other survivors. Across the hostile wastes, everyone is threatened by deadly anomalies and the dynamically-changing weather. Along with a day-night cycle, this constantly forces survivors to adapt their strategies, and players can find protective gear that allows them to explore dangerous off-limit zones. All the while, the howls of mutated creatures echo through the wasteland…

More details on Fear the Wolves will be unveiled to attendees at the "What's Next de Focus" press event in Paris, February this year. Developers at Vostok Games will be available for interviews and presentations to share more information about their upcoming hardcore Battle Royale shooter.

Fear the Wolves comes to PC and Consoles in 2018. Early Access begins this year on PC.

The battle royale concept is pure PC popamole decline mate. Console has fuck all to do with it. Sure it's releasing on console too, but that doesn't make it a "console shooter".
I told y'all, shooter decline was homegrown by PC decline-bringer devs. It's hard to fault some of said devs when their classics never sold well, ignored by the PC market in favor of dickriding id, valve, crytek etc because muh realistic graphics.

Bullshit trailer for E3:

Fear the Wolves debuts at E3 2018 in first footage – Early Access starts this Summer on Steam

Focus Home Interactive and the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. veterans at Vostok Games challenge you to survive in the new Fear the Wolves E3 trailer. Get your first glimpse at the dark setting, player vs environment elements, and endgame extraction of this unique Battle Royale FPS.

Drop into a radioactive wasteland with nothing but your wits, fists, and whatever you can find to protect you. Deadly mutated wildlife, the organic spread of radiation, unexplainable anomalies, and 99 other players stand in your way on your long march to the extraction helicopter inside the final zone.

To defend yourself you have an arsenal of scavenged weaponry. The trusty fire-axe is a silent killer but won’t do much good as the knife in a gunfight. Abandoned weaponry is scattered around the map, but you will need to scavenge from air drops, caches and radioactive areas to find the most powerful gear. Every other player will be after them too, bringing the wolves with them.

Wolves are the first of our mutants to be revealed. Roaming in packs and picking off stragglers, they have adapted to the radioactive environment and evolved into savage, decaying beasts. While on their own they pose a mere inconvenience, a pack will drain your ammo and leave you injured – or worse – if you aren’t careful. They’re just as deadly and hostile to your enemies, and how you use that will determine your survival.

As the radioactivity of an area worsens, reality begins to break down. Dangerous areas distort and enter flux as they pulse with radiation. In the early stages, the adrenaline from sprinting will stop you taking damage, but after that only gas masks and hazard suits will keep the poisonous air and deadly rays out. You are never safe, but you can be more protected than your enemies, using this advantage to access areas they can’t, to loot more and flank them.

Extraction is your ultimate goal. Rather than a slow that acalemate, Fear the Wolves challenges players to get out how they came in, with a final dash to an extraction helicopter that accepts just one occupant. The location of the extraction zone will vary game to game, forcing adaptation and rewarding intricate map knowledge. If you manage to wipe out every other player, you still take home the victory – so choose your path wisely.

Fear the Wolves comes to PC in 2018, later on consoles. Early Access begins this summer on PC.

why don't all these ex-STALKER devs do a STALKER-like game with their own unique tweeeest instead of chasing the latest and "greatest" popamole decline shitfest that's a great hit currently but will be forgotten by the time they get out of alpha. jesus titty fucking christ, it's really not that complicated.

This is what makes it a console shooter

Interesting fake gameplay. Have to wonder what takes the longest to make, a small vertical slice or render all that.

Choreography, I'd assume. At least it looks in-engine, real-time rendering (probably with some additional touching). Just that it's not actual gameplay.

Chernobyl died, and all that remains are the wolves. Radiation consumes the land, only the massive decaying structures of ex-civilization immune to its deathly grasp. The hardiest of creatures prowl this wilderness, hunting in the hope of survival. You and 99 others drop into this hellscape in search of fame, glory, and the one thing that matters – extraction. Welcome to Fear the Wolves.

This slow strangling of the map operates differently to what you might recognise from other games in the genre. It is unpredictable and nonlinear, spreading in odd directions that are harder to predict. Radiation hot spots can initially pop up anywhere on the map, slowly expanding from these initial zones to eventually cover the whole thing.

The way it does so will rarely be the same. A group of zones on the east side of the map may quickly lock off small villages but create a corridor of safety that includes one of the best looting cities on the map. Equally, things may begin more evenly spread, but eventually create a U-shape on the map that has players converging from all directions on the likely evacuation spot near the southern Security Checkpoint.

The radiation is also not immediately deadly. The first stage is merely a warning – an increased presence of wolves, and the knowledge that things are about to get worse, fast. As things progress, mysterious anomalies will begin to manifest and must be avoided. Eventually an area will be deadly to anything inside. Each stage is represented on the map and explained in-game, so you always know what to be afraid of.

Unless, of course, you have the right gear. Fear the Wolves incentivises risk-reward thinking by making it possible to survive outside of the play area if you happen to find oxygen tanks and respirators on your travels. They are limited, but they will protect you for a time. This gives you more options for looting, flanking, and movement. On top of the constant spread, it means you must stay on your toes to survive until extraction.

Veteran players can use all this to their advantage. While the shrinking system isn’t telegraphed, you can learn to read which areas are likely to remain until the end of the game, and the speeds at which further-out zones will become inhospitable. Combined with knowledge of initial drop zones and the movements of players you’ve seen since, this can give you an accurate prediction of where and when enemies will appear and how likely to be well equipped they are.

The shrinking system is at the heart of how Fear the Wolves creates a tense, exciting Battle Royale experience. Next time we’ll discuss how the weather system operates, and the specifics of each radiation level – as well as how the extraction mechanic makes every finale unique and thrilling.

Fear the Wolves comes to PC in 2018, later on consoles. Early Access begins this summer on PC.

This is the worst trend yet.

No way. The linear braindead cinematic third person cover shooter was. These battle royale games suck ass but at least the gameplay is a little more complicated and dynamic than whacking moles from cover and pretty much nothing else.

I'm Nostradamus:

Nobody will play this crap.

Because the kids will only play what is popular and their friends are playing.

And Stalker fans see this as the abomination as it is and wont buy it.

When get out of Early Access, there will be a new fad on steam already.

Why not make a good game instead?

Nah, too much work to actually not be lazy.

I will enjoy the schadenfreude when they close down.

the only "ex-STALKER" devs worth a damn are the ones who left STALKER early and went off to form what is now 4A games. Otherwise, every code monkey and his dog in ukraine "worked" on STALKER at one point of another. Its completely fucking meaningless.

Last minute delay:

Fear The Wolves: Early Access launch pushed back by a few weeks

Originally scheduled for release July 18, Fear The Wolves' Early Access on Steam has now been pushed back by a few weeks. Focus Home Interactive and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. veterans Vostok Games have made this decision together after closely listening to the expectations and feedback of players in the Closed Beta, which has proven a vital part of the game’s ongoing development. The Closed Beta will extend until the new Early Access launch date, allowing players to continue their exploration of the hostile and radioactive lands of a devastated Chernobyl.

We’ve already seen tens of thousands of players battling in Fear the Wolves over the last week of the Closed beta. We are delighted that players are satisfied with the core combination of classic Battle Royale gameplay with original mechanics – particularly the players vs. environment, radiation hazards, dynamic weather, and unique end-of-game extraction system.

The positive community feedback encouraged us to delay the release of the Early Access to ensure the well-received core experience isn’t marred by technical issues. On top of fixing these issues, this delay will also allow us to further improve other aspects of the game, thanks to the masses of data and player feedback gathered through testing.

We anticipate that the extra development time will raise Fear The Wolves’ quality to a level at which players will be able to fully experience it’s unique atmosphere.

Fear the Wolves will release on PC in Early Access later this summer.

The release of the full game is scheduled for 2019 on consoles and PC.

The third junior helper of pizza courier for 2nd 3D Animator does not count as former STALKER dev, guys. All this namedropping gets just annoying instead of advertising anything.
