I lent my copy of fallout to someone in high school

he told me it was boring as shit and he couldn't kill the rats and he was returning it to me soon
for some reason after that it never found its way back to me

luckily I had it archived loloooll

ps: it was a pirate copy because stores didn't sell the game at all.

Yeah, to make the rest of the game completely trivial and boring because you're overpowered as fuck.
This is something for a second playthrough (though I don't see the point in doing this in any playthrough), NOT for a beginner who wants to play the game for the first time. The game isn't really difficult, so you don't have to exploit it to survive.

Then you should recall its not that easy to pull of, besides theres a trick with the basment secret door. I agree it does grant you an edge, but being trivial and boring not so much. Its not as if you get instant accsess to PA or Turbo Plasma rifle and besides by the time you normaly would get tesla armor, is redundant anyway. Anyway my idea is to sell the exsessive loot at Hub for the skill books, becuase its the skills that count most. Besides pulling this of is a nice accomplishment in itselfe, since like I said its not that easy to pull off.

This is one the most horrible advice for a newb I've ever heard.

Most people know this but there's a hack that accelerates the game as much as you want. I played it at 400% the normal speed and it really helped through slow fighting/walking parts. (yes yes add kid)

    No, don't listen to him!

Powergaming and Metagaming is only acceptable for Fallout 2.

Don't do it for Fallout 1.

I don't think a person should look at any strats or gamey shit before playing these titles. I played Fallout 2 for the first time about five or six years ago and had an absolute blast going through it. That wouldn't have been possible if I knew how to snap up overpowered shit from the get-go.

Ouch so much hostility, or is it butthurt over such a trivial matter. :troll:

Oddly enough Wyrmlord I had exact oposite experience when Fallout 1 released. First time while exploring I just did the event described here, mind youl I had no idea at that time I would be returning there again for final time.
So I ended up doing F2 the normal way. I think later on at NMA I learned about the Bozar steal at NCR and other. Besides San Fran was so out of way that there was no way that you would happen on it by chance, even if you went exploring. In the end I finished the game normal way.

Edit: Your right in that regard sser, Ill see iif I can add spoiler tag to it just in case.

Hey bros, the Fallout giveaway made me pick it up again.

Haven't played it in years, what patches are recommended to play it (bugfix/high-res/etc.)?

I've found the 1.3.5 TeamX patch, which I gather should be fine, as well as a high-res patch that seems to run fine with it.
I also came upon another graphical patch (SFall by Timeslip) that should enable window mode and fix some engine bugs, amongst other things, but this won't work with the GOG version.

I replayed it with Fallout Fixt a couple of weeks ago, combines a few patches/enhancements, and some other things, it seemed good. Nothing like the Fallout 2 restoration mod/mega mod.
I recommend (if it works with the GOG version)

Tried it and it seems to work!

Unfortunately none of the scaling modes seem to do anything, but that's not a big issue.

I had a similar experience with a friend of mine a few years ago.

He never got past the first cave, said it just wasn't his kind of game.

His favourite game is whatever the latest Call of Duty is.

I genuinely don't understand the love for the games. The combat is dreadful, the stats are unbalanced, the graphics are fugly. It has a cool setting but a derp plot.

You mean the combat? Hey, Fallout is easy too, doesn't stop most of the people here from playing it.

Heh, in this day and age the only safe thing to sort of discuss IRL with anyone not from the dos prompt generation is whether you'll bang the lead female from that new AAA game

'realistic' games never look good scaled
I might try something like HOMM2 with it though

What's with all the shit 2011 newfags? There's like an invasion all of a sudden with each trying their damnedest to outdo each other in opposite ways. I've just seen one trying so hard to prove that he's 'oldskool' that he has a monocle in each eye, while this guy is desperate to have more edge than a Gillette Mach 3...

Well when i played fallout the first time i was 14ish at the time, and used no online help, so it wasn't as easy : D...
Witcher on the other hand had that mini game fighting which just felt wrong, since the focus is on combat. In fallout i cant really say, focus is on everything a bit.

Fair enough. A fixed character type like geralt requires some focused gameplay balancing.

The graphics are awesome with the high-res and sfall mods. Also, the combat is probably the best I've seen in a turn-based game (which isn't saying much, since turn-based sucks, but seriously there are many games which have worse combat). You think the plot is derp? Is it because it isn't SAVING THE WORLD or is it because you don't care about the Vault?
