No more investments or minting, just cash income and cash expenses. :declining:
Bullshitz, it's a massive improvement. The economy of EU3 sucked enormous donkey dick.

They separated economy with technology AT LAST. This in itself is a huge improvement. China was rich, yes. China was backwards, yes. Both those factors couldnt happen in EU3.

can't really say whether or not this is a good thing until they reveal how the new technology and stability systems work

Not to mention Inflation itself was an ass-backwards mechanic through and through. Another aspect is that Westernization and tech-differences were downright ridiculous in EU3, without taking into account the whole "minor detachment of Europower conquers China in 16th century" thing.

What I consider more interesting is how they'll handle economic development. Base Tax being a nearly immutable be-all-end-all was quite bad, there should be more things you can do to influence and develop areas, and if they manage to make a good system for simulating the economic hearts of large empires (read: Backwaters are inevitable if you're huge). It'd add a nice layer of realism if the real purpose of having a vassal state would be getting fuckloads of money from the economically self-administrated autonomous area, even if it used to be one of your backwaters.

Inflation in EU3/2/1 didnt have anything to do with inflation IRL so Im glad they axed it for the most part. Yearly/monthly income didnt make much sense too. Now tax income may be more balanced without having to worry about census taxes and stuff like that. Maybe more dynamic too.

All in all good decisions to change those things but we will have to wait and see how they intend to replace those mechanics.

so the 'idea groups' are (mostly) named after the old slider settings? does that mean sliders are going away?

But I love those sliders :(

Shouldn't come as a surprise though, they already did away with them in HoI3.

Yes, sliders are gone. Replaced by ideas apparently. I liked sliders but perhaps it will add depth to country customization as ideas give more than just sliders.

I disliked sliders because it didn't give any bonuses when they were in the middle, such as quality/quantity for army.

You realize this is only partially right, right? When China was rich it was one of the most powerful nations on earth. Then they failed to do critical reforms on time, fell behind and became a shithole (and also poor).

Quality/quantity was pretty shitty as countries with low manpower actually had to go more on the quantity side, while countries with big manpower reserves could easily go full quality as they had a higher force limit and more manpower than they'd likely ever chew through.

Its totally right, China was the biggest GDP nation in the WORLD well into the XIX century manufacturing huge amount of world production despite being obviously inferior in technology. Western nations overtook China in XVI century in tech but couldnt outproduce it for centuries more. And its not only because of population.

Once again not much development is put into religion. Especially priesthood and bishops is ignored. A pity since investiture, church lands, taxes and power was a very major part of the era.

I must say the graphics are huge incline and I have always been a proponent of historical determinism in the EU franchise.

Maybe they'll get the rest right with EU5 in 2020
