So pondering has a chance of increasing happiness?
Yes, ponder can produce "satisfied" thought. Discussion as well.
Was there any change in tracker skill pre/post-breakthrough?
I never saw breakthrough myself, but I saw how skill was raised after reading appropriate to pondering book.

One of the clearest cases of the you can't unsee that meme I've ever encountered. Now excuse me, I came here for the last DF update but I suddenly feel the urge to practice self-lobotomy. For scientific purposes.

What the fuck I just saw? Fag Fortress v 0.0.1, Sodomy is Fun?
This is how I imagine all Fortresses looking after the sodomy update.
А вообще это ж известная песня группы НОМ, которую я нежно люблю. Она ко всему подходит, и к работе, и к Дварф Фортрессу, и вообще к жизни.

Started another fortress in marshes nearby. Not a one visiting scholar, not a one breakthrough. Four books (2 from dwarven caravan, 2 random drivel books written by my dwarves) for five years. Kobold bulbs and adamantine. Cavorting in tavern - main fortress' activity. At least I had good musicians and even made masterwork instrument for them. Retire...

Started in mountainous area to the south. From first migrant wave I got my old dwarf from first fort. Legendary Dyer, good stonecrafter and awesome bonecrafter. With all knowledge of my old library in his skull. Got several visiting scholars with hauled books from my old library.
Got one of my old dwarves as VISITING SCHOLAR. Fucking Toady and his world simulator, now I understand people who read Legends all the time, yelling "Oh yes, Sabres of Farting of Mauve Lizard Kingdom killed Forgotten Beast Schlong McPrick in year 3!!!"

EDIT: Saw gnomes for the first time. Where are kobold bulbs when you need them? Time to import some gnomeblight. :M

Thank you, interesting thread.

Just look at that faggy pol!
How sad are you that a simple issue can bring out the worst in people?
It makes me sad. So very very sad. - 48 (48.5%)
I think it's great! - 24 (24.2%)

Yeah, starting at p11 someone mentions the possibility of implementing homophobia and some caricature of a tumblr SJW goes complete apeshit for several pages.

Another thing to note is
Homosexual warriors is probably a very bad idea in DF. Sure they won't have children, but theyll go nuts when their partner dies.

Best practice to employ unmarried dwarves and give them no chance to build relationships.

Nothing wrong with 3D. I meant the big changes that came with DF2010, for me that was the beginning of the end. Like the guy above commented on the undead eyebrows. Toady never fixed the undead in all these years because he doesn't care about the playability of Dwarf Fortress.
Leitz seems Toady heard your call.

A zombie nerf has arrived. The animated critters no longer block, dodge, parry, wrestle or sprint, and they do charging attacks whenever possible. Zombies no longer receive positive defense adjustments for body part types, and they don't seek or prevent combat opportunities. Their strength bonus has been reduced. Severing all non-smashed heads on a zombie kills it (smashing already worked), and severing or smashing any working grasp on a headless zombie kills it. Zombies can still be reanimated if they have a working grasp. So it's a bit confusing there with the overall grasp situation on headless zombies (it's better to target their arms than their bodies if you can't smash them entirely), and they still have some undue benefits they share with wild animals (you should be able to strike or stop many unarmed attacks with weapons), but it is much better than it was. I still sometimes get those invincible unsmashable zombie heads. I'll try to figure that out.

In an arena test, my competent sword+shield human was able to defeat ten zombies at once, receiving only minor injuries. It took some judicious selections, and some dodging to other squares, but it isn't hard if you stay away from multiple opponents. I also set six sword humans against twenty zombies, and they won without any losing anybody. On the other hand, I set ten unarmed unskilled humans against ten zombies, and the zombies won without losses. That sounds about right to me -- the zombies have many advantages in unarmed combat. So you'll have to keep your squishy civilians safe. Incidentally, one unarmed unskilled elephant person was able to kill ten human zombies without any trouble, since they have smashing power. Then an elephant person zombie was able to kill the elephant person...

I fixed sparring as well. The cautiousness personality check got flipped around with the new facets, which wouldn't normally be a problem (just a strike frequency shift), but the new drunken dwarves were 100 percent not-cautious (which made them all 100 percent cautious in the flipped check). The roll failed every time for them, so drunken sparring partners just sat there without throwing shots. That's normally reserved for super rare pathologically deliberate dwarves absolutely on one end of the curve, and that's not even much of an issue if their partner isn't the same way.

Every time I reread this shit my interest in this game returns to 0.

Every procedural world is supposed to be a medieval, grim and dark existence. Not rainbow haired fags throwing shit like chimps to protest against homophobia.

Having both Autism and SJW is worse than simultaneously having AIDS and Cancer. It's a lost cause. Someone should have forced Toady to "take a redpill" back when he wasn't completely head deep and drowning in SJW Kool-Aid. The shock might have shaped him in a far better developer... or into another Elliot Rodger.

Now, I'm not saying that his conversion to the Church of Social Justice made him an even worse developer than before. Nope, that is exactly what I believe in. It's no coincidence that his updates and efforts became more meaningless and pointless shortly after he began to buy fully into such shit.

DF is highly configurable, so with all this demographic stuff, you will be able to configure it to your preferences, or find a mod that does it for you. I wouldn't mind a set-up that was more historically realistic, e.g. keep exotic animal-humans down to low numbers as well keep fantasy stuff rare in general, no females in armies for the most part, etc.

I dunno man. I don't think I'd go that far. It's still interesting, just perhaps not as interesting as you'd like it to be. That's fair and all, but I think you might be getting more worked up about the particular why-for's over something not being included, rather than being upset with it's absence on it's own.

Dunno, I remember reading his "to do" list many years ago and already thinking that guy is bonkers. But often this little shit (like armies) adds to bigger things later. So I will wait and see. It's too early to abandon ship.
I even would be OK with faggot dwarves if a)Faggotry only for sapients b)Percent of gays closer to 1-2% and c) No marriages.

Frankly, I think faggot hamsters is a problem that stems from the Toady's habit to abstract things too much. Just look at DF's combat description.
Wombat grasps Shorast Atokilrud's left lower arm with front right tooth. Part is severed!
Shorast Atolkilrud grabs wombat's tail with left upper leg!
Unicorn's horn meat spins dwarf, breaking nail and fracturing pancreas!
etc, etc.
I kid you not, fractured pancreas. Reminds me about URW with its splint on broken eye.
By the way, nails and toes do not heal, causing infection and, eventually, death.

The only marksdwarf of my fortress, the slayer of mighty posion-spitting Forgotten Beast, was ordered to explore undeground caves and hunt for another FB (let's call him Wumpus) that hides there.

She bravely tranversed poorly lit forests, she saw wonders and horrors, mutilated crundles and majestic magma pools. Finally she found Wumpus frolicking in the small pond. Kill Wumpus, said voice in her head. She got to pool's shore and with baited breath aimed her steel crossbow at approaching abominable rattlesnake. She knew that it will be glorious battle.
Then suddenly...
Bomrek Thikutakam, militia commander - Sleep.
It was the quick demise.

My dwarf, Adequate Mathematician, the one from the first fortress, made breakthrough in Geometric Objects. Changed topic of pondering and wrote book about them. Also writing books trains Wordsmith skill, but very slow. he is competent writer, but only adequate wordsmith.

Fowyr Kinda out of the blue, but say, are the war dogs still as useless as they were? My Forteses often relied heavily on them until I could train my military dorfs, especially when I can't construct traps before first or second caravan. I had bad luck with beginnings at least for two versions now, it's getting ridiculous.

Never used them in new versions, so dunno. That new training mechanic for exotics seems pretty interesting, so I tinkered only with it.

When you bait animal trap, all stack of meat or meat product is used.
Toady, what the fuck? This bug was already in 2D version! Keep your shit together!
I'm glad that my dorf used 14 prepared brains instead of 465 FB's meat.
