Let me tell you about Dragonball.

I don't like it when Goku killed his bro and yet he didn't show any sadness for his death.
The Freeza arc also made the other Z-fighters useless, if you are not an alien, you suck!
Much of the popularity came from the Freeza arc, which is only a part of the whole story, by that time most of the good guys have been introduced. Then the author extend it with the Cell saga and make Freeza alive again.
Also the movies have the same formula. Krilin and Gohan does useless things. Goku fights the big bad guy. Piccolo arrives and saves Gohan, then he has difficulties. Vegeta then appears. Then they go super-saiyan and beat the bad guys. It is just like the Freeza fight but with different bad guys.

Used to like these as a kid. Too childish past a certain age though.

The fat samurai cuts off Vegeta's tail, so that's one thing the humans did. Also they built Gokus space ship.

Everything after Freeza dies is just pulp. It doesn't really have much of a story, and the story it does have is just a repeat of the Saiyan saga (in essence). The series was meant to end after Saiyan saga but it was so popular that the creator continued.

Main problem was goku and freeza's fight was nearly 30 episodes long and that's so fucking long i ditched anime for manga to see it's ending.
Plus dragon ball z wasn't actually planned carefully, probally writer was just making stuff from his up to keep it going.

I watched them all(normal+Z) until Trunks appeared(from the future),that was shortly after Freezas death.

DB got banned from television in my country because some kind of chinese guy tried to stop a train with a Kamehameha attack and didnt work for him(he died)...I can find nothing about it on google but thats what I remember.

I loved DB but now I am to old for it I am afraid...

DB was ok till they started only throwing energy attacks around and destroying planets. When the whole Z thing started it lost it's charm and the anime shittiness ("fights" that last 3+ episodes, where they just scream stupidly and throw themselves into poses. With each episode having 5 minutes of actual plot, max, and the rest being repetition) really started becoming bad.

That's pretty much a given, since superman never kills fucking anybody and almost dying is apparently saiyan steroids.

Anyways, original series was better than Z, but both are pretty awful. There's plenty of mindless pulp anime that is better drawn, animated, and written. About the only thing Dragonball has going for it is that you could watch the same series for a damned long time, which isn't much of a perk. Something like FMA or even Slayers would be much better if you're just in it for the explosions.

The original was such a charming show, I used to love it as a kid. Z was retarded and got extremely retarded after Frieza's death. But I suppose cash cows need to be milked to death or else the suits might start throwing hissy fits.

Z was a piece of shit show, and let's not mention GT shall we.

The old 80's manga is the only good shit when Goku was a kid, and I guess up to a certain point in his adulthood. Like up to the point after that one tournament and he flew off with his waifu on his cloud (can't remember what the fuck she was called or that fucking cloud).

DBZ anime's shit, like all long-running anime based on long-running manga and that are running in parallel to the manga. The anime's always running at a faster rate and has to use shitty filler so as not to overtake the manga, because obviously just releasing the TV episodes at a slower rate is bad for business. I never bothered with the anime at the time because of this. Dragon Ball Kai is actually pretty good in that it ditches all the filler and follows the manga very closely; the few differences that I picked up in the episodes I watched add to quality rather than detracting.

As for the manga I still like most of the Android arc, thanks to large chunks of it not having fights or being the Sayans getting their asses kicked really badly. And then it all goes downhill and back to power-level e-peen as soon as Cell starts powering up. The manga was clearly meant to end much sooner than it did, and Toriyama has stated this in some interviews. In fact reading about the history of the thing is pretty interesting. Apparently every time he wanted to end the manga both the manga and anime publishers pressured him to keep going. It's painfully obvious at the end of the Cell arc, where he pretty much wraps it all up as neatly as possible and then has to do a time skip to kickstart it, but Toriyama said he wanted to end it as early as the Freezer saga. He had to change things often in order to accomodate publisher who didn't like the initial androids because they were too old, or Cell's appearance, and so on and so forth. And the Buu saga is clearly him making the manga stupider and stupider and stupider in reaction to all this, and pushing it as far as he could until the publisher just caved in and told him to stop writing it. Kinda worked too, from the looks of it. And the ridiculousness is quite funny in parts.

Also agree with everything Shannow said.

Whole DB and DBZ is great ! DB is more of a 'lulsy anime' while DBZ is more of a SRS BSNS fighting.

The is from the original uncut jap version, no wonder they censored like half the show for the west :smug:. I think Toriyama was married by the time he had done DB, i wonder what his wife said about this. :smug:
