Look, I sincerely doubt anyone is going to think you're a hypocrite for not backing up a game that doesn't appeal to you; although they might perhaps find it a bit peculiar you're willing to spend time and effort on torrenting something so abhorrent to your sensibilities (especially given they're going to have a demo). Now your preferred methods of game acquisition are none of my concern, but seeing as you're on site staff and it only makes you sound like a twit anyway, I'd say sharing that bit wasn't particularly necessary.

Yeah, I know... I'm just curious enough to check it out. Maybe it'll even convince me enough to actually buy it, who knows?

I just wish they wouldn't have gone with the zombie apocalypse setting. It's overused and boring.

It's not the setting, it's the execution.

Case in point: Terminator 1/2 vs. Terminator 3, Salvation, and Sarah Connor Chronicles.

Actually as I recall Brian said he's only making a turn based game because that's the easiest thing to do with the engine he has and he has no particular preference regarding turn-based/real-time.

...I do still lurk, you know. The problem is once a thread gets this big, I feel like a self-important jerkass appearing like the goddamn Candyman like DID SOMEBODY SAY MY NAME?!?

I DID, however, want to clear up some shit, because Kickstarting Dead State is insanely important and Brian has damn near worked himself to death on it. I've worked on it as well, but I've got GW2 to help tend to so there's several orders of magnitude between what I can realistically do and what Brian can. Seriously, tho, the team for the game is fucking incredible, and they've been doing amazing, amazing work. I know you're all jaded, vicious internet tramps with crazy eyes and teeth like needles, but you're my kind of crazy, so I wanted to appear EVEN JUST FOR THIS ONE POST and say hi.

    SO CLARIFICATIONS:
    * We never abandoned the project. What happened was that Age of Decadence went into a crunch mode, which meant time on DoubleBear's end was spent doing less post-worthy stuff like system tweaks, writing, UI layout concepts (like, my shitty Photoshop work, not the amazing work you see now, because ME AM DESIGNER, NOT ARTIST), and I was in crunch mode for a GW2 deadline, and TL;DR - life generally got in the way. Things slowed, but didn't DIE, not ever. That lull basically had us go hey, the project isn't DYING or DEAD but it's moving slower than we want it to, which is a result of RPGs taking a seriously fucking long time to make AND the majority of the team having to do DS work in their spare time only.
    * Turn-based works for the game. Also we knew from the get-go that we'd be working with the Age of Decadence engine/toolset/stuff, which works best for turn-based. We didn't think of Dead State and go "hm yeah, guess we gotta make it turn-based," we built it with that setup in mind. But with that said, we don't have a hate-on for real time anything, it's just not what Dead State is gonna be.
    * Kickstarting Dead State was not a sudden decision. We've been setting this shit up for months, significantly previous to the DoubleFine Adventure KICKSTARTER EXPLOSIONFESTIVALSTRAVAGANZA, and we've been working very hard on what we plan to show and how we plan to show it. I think you'll like it.
    * Just because I have a man-jaw does not mean I have man parts. My chromosomes are XX. I lack a penis. This has been something that certain people seem to perceive is a failing of mine, i.e. the not-having-penis thing, but I've done just fine without it for my life so I think that's okay. Also my arms are big, I know. Again, doesn't mean I have a dick, or ever had one. Let's move on from that now please. Also, for forever. Gettin' old.
    * JarkFrank please don't pirate the game, it's not even out yet, holy shit. C'mon, buddy. Don't play me like this.

OK, gonna grab dinner and alcohol now. Did YOU know Seattle OK'd non-state-only-liquor stores today?! I SURE DID! Oh boy! Game designer need drinky!

    As you were, Codex.

See, now that wasn't so hard, was it?

Although now the only thing I remember from that post is that you... penis... have? Don't? Something about penis anyway. And teeth and needles. And alcohol.

Speaking of crazy, did you see that time I talked about how you cuckolded dumped that terminally boring, passive aggressive beta male zero with for a hero? You go girl.

Oh another thing I forgot: What did you two do to piss off Patrick K Mills? He's been awfully blunt about how much your Alpha Protocol sucked.

Such particular ot questions could be the reason why they don't post that much here.

Patrick's mad at me? Did he dislike the first version of AP or the one that came out? I thought if I ever irked Patrick, it would be because I don't like the Eleventh Doctor Who. I'm all about the Tenth.

JarlFrank, my dear, I would post more, but work has ground me into a fine powder. It is only through sheer force of will that I can reform enough to type this, like the Sandman. (The lame Spider-Man villain, that is, not the cooler one.) Games take an assload of time to make, ESPECIALLY RPGs, and I am making TWO OF THEM. I'm pretty fucked in the head that way.

Also, Codex, I love beer, and no offense, but sometimes on the weekends when I'm like "hmmm... post on the Internet... or go out with my jaded game developer friends and have a lot of beer?" The latter's going to win. I know I could just type "real life" as an excuse for not posting a lot, but really for some reason it's important for me to let you all know how much I drink. 75% of the game industry are functional alcoholics. That is a real figure that I just made up.

NOW GO BACK TO TALKING ABOUT DEAD STATE THX

The first one (and I guess your second draft too). I recall he even said he hated Steven Heck until the Avellone draft, which I thought funny considering you once said he was the character changed the least.

Now where did I put those links and quotes... oh here we go.

And in one of his blog posts he talks about the annoying ignorance of putting skyscrapers in Rome (which you can find by searching for "Halbech (Rome), Lost but not forgotten." [I'd rather not directly link because then he'd know]).

So who wrote the crying scene, you or Brian? Same question goes for the author self-insert as well. :p

Wrong game, son. This is the Dead State Kickstarter thread.

You want AP talk, get a new thread going or PM me, but I can't answer much because 1) I stopped following the project when I switched teams, 2) anything I say about the project will sound like bitching, regardless of tone or content, and 3) I dunno what I can even SAY that is not still NDA'd. I CAN say that Travis Stout, not Avellone, wrote Steven Heck after Brian left, and Travis said he tried to keep Heck as close to Brian's original view as possible. That's all I know about the changes. Beyond that, I really got nothin, as I dislike devs hissing about internal decisions in public because I think it's unseemly.

SO. YES. BACK TO DEAD STATE, WHICH IS A GAME I AM WORKING ON NOW, AND IS GOING TO BE ON KICKSTARTER LET US FOCUS.

I still think this game is either never going to come out or be a pile of shite, but I've decided to donate to it in appreciation of Annie's return - despite her choice of a less reputable avatar.
