DAMMIT one of the servers bugged out and fucked me big time.

19 Murders and countless more attempts later, I spawned in the wilderness and though I went East (had a compass, so no misdirections), I never arrived at the edge of the map area. After running East for 15 minutes and still not seeing anything, I put the game on autopilot and left for 45 minutes. I was still running in the wilderness when I came back. Either I'm bugged for good or I must have spawned to the NW outside the map so I had been moving East towards nowhere. I'll try South. If still nothing, I'll just have to off myself.

In some servers, you can still use global/side chat. It's weird.

Just a word of warning, there is a bug which might send you into the ocean or debug forest if you change into the ghillie suit, so avoid wearing a mop for the time being.

Oh and also - THERE ARE BICYCLES IN THE GAME NOW!

Here's one I like. Some squad got enough parts together to fix a helicopter. They just need to get it out of the hanger and take it for a test flight.

    Wulfstand Brofists this.

Yes, there's lots of great stories in the making. You really have no idea what's going to happen when you logon.

I think I've only had about two or three murders in the many, many hours that I've played. Quite often I'm able to say 'Friendly' or just not shoot someone and we both go our own ways. Of course I've been sniped quite a bit or simply stalked and ambushed or jumped while looting a store. I generally play the avoidance game when possible. I have to admit when I've been alive for a few days and have lot's of good loot I'm more willing to shoot first if I have no choice.

Although Murders are reset each time you spawn and 'Humanity' isn't displayed in the debug monitor anymore, rocket did say that 'Humanity' is still being tracked and that it will have consequences. I wonder what it could mean and what it will be?

It will probably mean I'm fucked LOL. My total count must be around 40. This last life was the longest I went without dying and I logged off only once, not to escape death but because frame rate crawled to a slideshow about a minute into a shootout. But it's so thrilling when you lay in wait and ambush someone. Most entertaining when the target can not tell where the fire is coming from so he takes cover in the wrong place, exposing himself completely.

I don't try to kill everyone I see, though. I only hunt relatively well equipped players inland. If I see someone with a rare weapon, one of the top three backpacks or a camo or a ghillie suit, I'll go after him. Otherwise, I'm quite friendly. I give random people freebies. I even went out of my way once, to find a guy with broken legs in the thick of a town to give him morphine. Also if someone spots me first and declares himself friendly, I'll also act friendly, regardless of anything else.

Did you actually see it? Because unless dayz_vehicles_v0.1.rar is updated (which it isn't), there isn't a bicycle entry in the mod files. But maybe it's server side, who knows. There are, however, motorbikes. A mountain variety and one "old bike".

Hah. I'd fit into your 'prey' catagory, I usually have an ALICE pack or at least a Czech pack and a half decent weapon like an AKM. And I never go anywhere near the coast, always roaming around inland. Of course it wouldn't be the same without the fear of lone stalkers or squads of killer bandits. That's the beauty of this game, there is no quest log or compass (although there are maps and real compasses and since the sun/moon cycles and starmap are real you can find North without one), you just make up your own quest/mission and see if you can accomplish it alive. Some people like to find and fix vehicles, snipe in big cities, collect high-end gear, stalk people or simply scavenge and try to survive. You can be a lone wolf, travel in small groups or join a huge squad. You can do what you want. It's a blast.

I've put way, way too many hours into this game in the last few weeks and still can't get enough. I'll have to actually try out Arma2 itself one of these days.

Not personally no, but the global chat was aflame with talk about it and so are the mod forums.

Global chat doesn't work only on beta servers. Also, you will never spawn in the middle of the ocean or in the middle of nowhere on beta servers.

I also hope they're gonna make some logout timer like in WoW so that random faggots can't just hop in and out like one guy did today. He eavesdropped on us on ts3 (arguably our own fault since we were in a public channel; /v/'s of all) and just hopped in and out, killing creamy and badly injuring me in the process. He was probably aiming for me all along because I mentioned I had NVG's (didn't know he was in the channel, though). I wasn't gonna give the retard the pleasure of looting my NVG's so I Alt + F4'd when I was passed out with 1.6k blood and bleeding. We hopped servers and a buddy managed to save my sorry ass. Normally, I let people get their deserved kill, but I wasn't gonna play fair vs a faggot.

/v/ is a mixed bunch. There's a bunch of bros who will go out of their way to help you and you can generally have a good time with them (guys gave me NVG's even though I didn't manage to save them) and then there's the server hopping, eavesdropping "LOLO UMAD I TROLOLO AM I COOL YET XDXDXD" bunch.

I was playing with some /v/ bros in Berezino. There were like 10 people on the server. We were a group of five and we stumbled upon a group of people (yes, the rest of the server) in one of the military tents in Berezino. Idiots got all in the same tent and shot zombies. One of our guys threw a frag grenade, killing 3. One got killed shortly after that, the other tried hopping and getting us off guard, but he was disposed of too. They must have been pissed, seeing how they had coyote backpacks, NWA grade weaponry, a few GPS', etc.

Also, if you want to avoid faggy campers, go to servers with disabled 3PP since you can pretty much prone behind a little hill, go 3P and see behind it without anyone seeing you.

Oh and yeah, vehicles are working now, which is why I've been carrying a bunch of car parts this whole day. We found two ATV's and got them up and running after a lot of scavenging. Thing is, though, handling them is so incredibly shitty. I stumbled into a little bush and couldn't get out afterwards. Tried maneuvering, but I flipped to the side instead. This is how we pretty much lost both of our ATV's. Next objective - find a decent Jeep, use it as a tent on wheels and hide it way the fuck in the middle of nowhere.

Also, Vots, you should play with us some time.

    From Rocket the developer:
Respawning to get a better spawn point is also frowned on.

As for that player, he disappeared when I started firing, but without global chat I couldn't tell if he DC or proned etc. Had I shot first instead of being a carebear and reporting his position (which he is also listening to), Creamy may not have died. I was watching our rear (I was even crawling backwards) as I suspected the gunshots were from Vybor because I noticed zombies despawning and respawning just as we left Vybor.

    Hurray for vehicles!

Very difficult to find the location.

NW of Myshkino in our last game, someone already installed a tire and 3 jerry cans in the trunk.

Nah, global chat can be disabled in the beta, but it depends on the server. There's been a lot of complaining about the ocean spawn on the forums so I dunno.

On a side note it would seem that I've inadvertantly become a bandit. Somebody was shooting the shit out of Stary Sobor, so I formally typed in an inquiry as always. Nobody replied, but when I got to the base there was a bunch of dead dudes lying around and some guy was leaning out of a tent aiming at me. I popped some bullets at him and proceeded to try to patch things up over global, when it once again turned out he was dead.

Got an m16 and an entrenching tool out of it, so it's not all bad, but I think nobody on the server is going to trust me anymore.

I actually like global chat a lot, once I was chatting with this stranger for hours and he found a working heli, coincidently I happened to be nearby and got a ride.

Practice in Arma 2's Armory. Or better yet: get the Single Player adaptation of Day Z and practice in there. You can spawn any item via a menu, including vehicles, or load up the Loot Finder mission and see which items spawn where and their probabilities (except for vehicles, it doesn't show where vehicles spawn). You can learn a lot of interesting and valuable stuff that way.

Where and when do you play? Crowds attract attention, though. It's particularly messy when avoiding zombies. In case you haven't noticed, my zombie count in my last game was zero. It's been a while since I killed any zombies. I avoid them and don't like to waste precious rare bullets on them.

Get on CDS or Codex Ventrilo. I get kicked out of US 11 due to high ping so I cannot join that.
Large groups with players can sneak if they are experienced, and only some of them need to, the rest can hide and overwatch.
Large groups also have lots of ammo, I have enough ammo for 200 zombies and I shoot them just for fun, leaving behind AR ammo pains me but there is no more space. I have found tents of other players which I did not touch that I can always loot for rare ammo. :)

Yeah. At the very least, I hope for in-game tools to provide global chat. You find an in-game radio, for instance, you can talk to anyone who has one over it. I have short list of wishes to enhance PvP, actually:

Radio (or smartphone): to replace global/side chat except without your name declared.
EMF Detector: to detect players using GPS, Radio.
Parabolic microphone: to detect any sound sources + direct voice talk where you point the device to.

There's also been a lot of crazy shit popping up on some servers. People are reporting well armed AI convoys mauling zombies, working radios with strange broadcasts and bombing runs. It might be hackers, but there is a suspicious lack of dev posts on those threads.

Was scouting out a town in the woods and a cyclist pop out of nowhere 5 meters to my left, only heard him when I saw him, he swerved and rode away. Skyway would have shot him and stolen his bike.
So no need for gas, quite and can go through thick woods, why am I building a car?

That helicopter exploding video looked very laggy. He was shooting the zombies and nothing was happening. Is that common? I don't want to play a game like that.

Also, is the point of the game to just shoot other humans and nick their stuff? I was more interested in the "Bros group together and try to survive" kind of thing.

The point of the game is whatever you want it to be. Since there are no objectives. Literally. It's all about emergent survival.

I'll look for bicycles first thing come night time. It's incredibly annoying that a lot of the servers seem to have different in-game times than the time zone they are claiming to be. Even more that time is inconsistent between players. While a player has pitch black, another might have day on the same server simultaneously.

People are such pussies. It's becoming harder to find servers with real night time. When I first started playing 1.5, nights were the real deal. Pitch black. You actually had to use flares and pay attention when you could barely make out silhouettes and relied a lot on sound. Now every server I join, it's just a pussified "darkened colours mod" bullshit. You can still see everything perfectly in the darkest hours. Fuck this shit.
