have not heard of any mmo connections but the moba claims are misplaced, if a little balance is required for the hero units that can come about quickly enough, and some of the larger types such as the walkers are easily focused with specialised Eldar technology

that is the first actual reason given in this thread after all the complaints, however the effect armour types previously had on the series were often typically superficial, either a damage type would feasibly apply or the unit was practically immune. After which gradations between armour types of damage types primarily came down to effective dps more than variations between unit types. This design forced gameplay primarily into either-or situations, the difference now from my experience is the overall functionality of the unit (mobility, rate and type of fire, etc) where encounters are more dynamic and distributed over and above mechanics where differences would typically converge. For example unit speed is finally a significantly greater factor in determining the functional role of a unit, Banshee speed is once more decisive, and it occurred to me earlier I did not bring any Vypers previously

You joke, but during DoW2 hyping, relic published the result of their own in house tournament. Iirc, out of 16 participants, there was 1 nid, 1 ork, 3 SM and the rest eldar. I remember it because its such a perfect explanation for why eldar was completely op in the open beta :M (and had feature bloat in DoW1).

Yeah, I am not a big RTS follower but I wasn't optimistic about this after the way they handled Company of Heroes 2, their first game released after being acquired by SEGA.

I tried to get into it competitively, but they couldn't even balance it properly 2-3 years after launch and focused on releasing DLC instead. Everyone on the community was bitching that all the talented people are gone and old Relic is dead. This is what the average MP waiting queue looked like:

I don't care as much for DoW and I mostly played them for the story in the past, but if that MOBA crap is true I'll probably just skip it entirely. What a shame.

TBH DoW2's heroes played moba-like. I wonder if they're just referring to that.

Oh well, it's okay, I'm co-oping DoW2 Chaos Rising hopefully to become an LP. And Sanctus Reach too.

Edit 2: Something tells me there was some GW meddling in terms of the focus on the "elites" because they want to push those Wraithknights, Imperial Knights.. aka units that belong in Epic or Armageddon... Not in "normal" company sized 40k. All this 6th edition shit where not only did they add the above crap but also air combat and jet fighters and shit.

I'm surprised there's no Centurion lol (coughRogalDorn)

Totally off topic, but if you liked CoH1 then you should try DoW2, mechanically clone-like except that in DoW2 you have a "hero." Just noticed right now that DoW2 uses an updated version of the CoH engine. Campaign's a lot different from the multiplayer though, campaign is more like an action RPG, you have four(?) main characters with their squads but the characters level up and you get loot for them and shit. Funnily enough, the 1st expansion (Chaos Rising) has more C&C than most RPGs lol. Regular multiplayer is back to CoH-like RTS (RTT?)

I've played the full DoW2 (Vanilla, Chaos Rising, Retribution) campaigns for the story since 40k mythology in games is kinda rare, but never tried the multiplayer. As I said I am not a huge RTS fan, MP usually has a pretty steep learning curve and most communities I've come across are shit.

I do love modern warfare RTS settings like CoH or WiC though, which is why I sometimes go into the trouble of trying to git gud. Too bad Relic fucked the best ww2 series around.

Good luck trying to make DoW 3 a major competitive game. They pushed in the same direction with CoH2 but they couldn't even balance two factions and then they released more factions that made matters even worse. The term "esports" was used ironically as a meme by everyone in the competitive scene to mock the games failure to actually become one.

Relic added the shittiest parts of MOBA like lanes. Everything else is dumbed down from the previous games.

The voice acting especially is pure decline from previous iterations and even the art looks worse than DOW2.
