Just came across this and haven't seen a thread about it so I thought I'd start one:

DataJack is an upcoming 2D cyberpunk stealth action / RPG game which has been under development for four years. Set in the year 2030, following the collapse of nation states, the world of DataJack is run by megacorporations who recognize no rule of law beyond sheer military force. The game follows the career of a corporate mercenary who hires out his abilities as assassin, hacker and gunslinger to the highest bidder.

Game features:
  • 28 unique, modifiable weapons: from crude shotguns to railguns
  • Gadgets including remote explosives, EMP grenades, shurikens, and more
  • Three factions and three different endings
  • Cybernetic limbs and implants which give stat bonuses
  • Guard AI which investigates, engages and pursues suspicious persons (you)
  • Isometric pixel art graphics
  • Destructible walls and terrain
  • 30 planned missions

From watching the gameplay videos, it made me think of a 2d isometric blend of Deus Ex and Hitman. The developer compares it to Syndicate, which I never played so I don't wouldn't know.

Has potential, IMO. Hopefully they finish it.

Nice find!

It does remind me on Syndicate, but mainly from the perspective and music, and the mouse controlled crosshair. Apart from that the gameplay looks rather different.

doesn't run well in wine, probably buggy coding considering the many reported openGL errors. And quite unplayable controls for a lefty.

I'm not lefty and I hate WASD. Game controller would have been a good choice for this one.

Yeah, tutorial seems unfinishable due to collision bugs, game seemed ok from the quick play i had, died pretty easily a couple of times, but that's not a bad thing.

Short play impressions: Yeah. very buggy. Also, the game does not seem to be choose-your-own-approach based as it appears. The game ended up railroading me towards specific paths/approaches during certain levels. I'm kind of curious about the point of the game. Is it just a little fun-free game? Or is it a proof-of-concept for a much larger project?
