Oops, did I say DU? I meant Notch, and his new SPAAAACE! something something game 0x10c :

In a parallel universe where the space race never ended, space travel was gaining popularity amongst corporations and rich individuals.

In 1988, a brand new deep sleep cell was released, compatible with all popular 16 bit computers. Unfortunately, it used big endian, whereas the DCPU-16 specifications called for little endian. This led to a severe bug in the included drivers, causing a requested sleep of 0x0000 0000 0000 0001 years to last for 0x0001 0000 0000 0000 years.

It's now the year 281 474 976 712 644 AD, and the first lost people are starting to wake up to a universe on the brink of extinction, with all remote galaxies forever lost to red shift, star formation long since ended, and massive black holes dominating the galaxy.

The game is still very early in development, but here is a list of things we hope to include:

  • Hard science fiction.
  • Lots of engineering.
  • Fully working computer system.
  • Space battles against the AI or other players.
  • Abandoned ships full of loot.
  • Duct tape!
  • Seamlessly landing on planets.
  • Advanced economy system.
  • Random encounters.
  • Mining, trading, and looting.
  • Single and multi player connected via the multiverse.
  • The Generator and the Computer

Each ship has a generator capable of producing a fixed wattage, and everything you connect to it drains wattage. A cloaking field, for example, might require almost all the power from the generator, forcing you to turn off all computers and dim all lights in order to successfully cloak.

The computer in the game is a fully functioning emulated 16 bit CPU that can be used to control your entire ship, or just to play games on while waiting for a large mining operation to finish.

Full specifications of the CPU will be released shortly, so the more programatically advanced of you can get a head start

Looks like it will be a fully fledged 3D game since "seamlessly landing on planets". I don't know how else that would matter. So this game will either make Notch mega-rich or drain all of his finances over years.

Sounds like a nerd dream! I'm curious now and hope for the best (but of course expecting the worst). Spaceward Ho! :salute:

Hmm, this shares lots of content with the "Mars Effect" April Fools joke site. I suppose that was intentional.

So, how many days until a version of GCC for DCPU-16 is released?

Why would anyone want to support Notch? Minecraft still doesn't have any real gameplay after how many years now?

Does Lego have a gameplay?

Lego doesn't have survival mode.
The hell it doesn't. Play with Lego enough and your fingers will feel like death.

Lego survival mode would be navigating your floor in the darkest hour of night after playing constructing with them.

I see no one commented on this yet, either no one read about it or doesn't give a shit but Notch went full inception aspie with this game:

Seems the main feature of the game is a real 16 bit computer in the game hence the name of the game 0x10 as 0x10000 is the words of ram.
So basicaly you will have on yoru ship a PC where you can do anything you want while in space, people will be able to create software, programs and game- and it's no fake shit, it's all real time AND on top of that all the online servers will hold a PC of each and every player, that's probably why he wants the online fee, that's like thousands and thousands of calculations that will only keep expanding as people will create new and new stuff.

Play minecraft while you mine ? ok

Watch alien 8bit porn while you have a 15 min flight ? ok

Watch a live stream from cybergalactic cowboy TV match that you can tune on a frequency like radio that is broadcasted by other people? ok

the limit is only peoples imagination.

It sounds like people could code up some CPU intensive shit, spread it to lots of people, and effectively DDOS Notch's servers.

I guess he'd have to retain the ability to monitor and throttle all players' virtual CPUs to avoid that type of thing.

Looks like he's even created a simplified assembly language to program that CPU. While I'm not buying pay-to-play games, I'll certainly keep an eye on this one. It'll either turn into the most original title ever, or the biggest failure in the history of gaming.
And by the way, I wonder if this is where he got the idea from.

Depending on what tools Notch will provide and how much knowledge of actual coding and developing it will require to create on his emulated pc, this game will have a sort of world of its own, a 'notch internet'.

Minecraft gave the ability to build what you want with some gameplay, this will give you the ability to build whatever you want if you will have enough knowledge (probably), but as with everything, there are crazy enough modders that will create stuff from games, programs to socials things etc.
Depends on what Notch wants this actualy to be,,,, will it be a another boring minecraft with no gameplay that is only a hub for 'notch world', if so, no thx.

There isn't much you can do to make assembly more accessible, so the programs will be developed by the actual programmers or people who will take their time and learn it. Still, I wonder how it'll turn out. I find it perfectly plausible that there will be a caste of wizard-programmer players that will sell their programs to the common folk, either for in-game money or real money.
