Plus octavius pissed him off, too, and that caused some heartburn since octavius is also a regular poster on addict's blog.

Can anyone fill me in on what happened? I think I've read this whole thread from the start, and I must've read about 90% of the comments in the titular blog, but can't seem to remember seeing anything about this incident.

By the way, who's that KBbtGS guy? He certainly seems to like his precious JRPGs and console games...

The only thing I can think of is him being a prude about some enemies in Wiz 6 showing off their boobs and a whole bunch of people making fun of him for it.

And that's enough to shift the alignment of your alter ego and get him renamed to Brutus? Wow. :salute:

I think the straw that broke the camel's back was you making fun of how many times he died to Brilhasti in BT3 :troll:

Speaking of which... hey crpgaddict you totally should go back to BT2 and finish it. I replayed it recently and it's a lot better than I remembered it. Provided you don't try to fight EVERY random encounter (I'd just run from those that seem they'll take too much time and aren't worth the effort - with Speedboots equipped on one PC, you always succeed) combat isn't as staggering as it is in BT3, and dungeon design is much, MUCH better. I think it's a much better game than BT1.

Do remember to save your game this time :troll:

I never interpreted his response as prudish. Granted his reasoning (doesn't want to think about the dev lecherously forcing his version of nudity at him) is a bit meta-gamey.

Beyond that I don't see the big deal on his complaint. I think some people here just get butthurt when he doesn't like their favorite games.

[...]It's not that I really care about their criticisms, I know what this place is like (all of it, the good, the bad and the ugly); I'm just baffled how they come to these conclusions.

The reason I lose respect for them is that the only way I can fathom reaching these conlusions is by purposefully pretending 95% of the discussion doesn't exist, taking the remaining 5%, and then mentally copy/pasting that onto everything else. It's disingenuous. I lose respect for people when I think they're being disingenuous. This won't affect my ability to read his posts and enjoy them (or in Vogel's case, of enjoying his good games).

Codex is one of the few places where you aren't summarily dingdongbannu'd for expressing negative opinions. It's quite the shock for a newcomer to see a lenghty post on why Game X is an irredeemable turd go unpunished, and the immediate impression it makes is that the place must be a hater central. This is why you get comically wrong descriptions like "grognards who hate stories in their games" or "they hate anything that wasn't made in the 80's".

It's not just about the grinding. He plays the game in the most artificial way possible and then complains it doesn't work. Duh.

He's also hating on the game's text adventure bits, which are great, using some p. inane complaints as always.

Someone wrote a message with just the word "fuck" repeated about 50 times, Addict deleted it and replied "always nice to hear from the RPG Codec".
How the fuck did he know?!?
This reminds me of when Anthony Davis blamed the 'dex for an invasion of tards on the OE forums, and of course it turned out not be Codexers.
 I'd love to read some of that. Links, anyone?

Funny that he hates on the game most for the level scaling. Here's a wonderful snippet:
We've seen this happen subtly in other games in my chronology, and quite often in modern games, but never in the kind of game-breaking way that Tunnels & Trolls does it, where the escalation in monster difficulty ensures that the game gets significantly harderfor every level or attribute you increase.
It's funny because Oblivion and Skyrim, both of which he has called best games ever at one point or the other, do exactly the same thing.

That said the level scaling is one of the reasons I'm not a huge fan of the game. Then again I'm the complete opposite of someone who grinds.

Well, there's level scaling where monsters stay scaled to your own level. But T&T sounds like for every level you gain, the monsters gain several.
Might&Magic 2, incidentally also by New World Computing, had anti-grinding measures too, in that the higher level you were the more enemies you faced. I always got a :smug: when people who grinded the Cuisinarts complained about facing 255 enemies in every combat.
Sounds like T&T went too far when battles become impossible.

Are those "unwinnable" scenarios in T&T really unwinnable or is there any other paths you can take to acquire the Death Wand etc

Espescially if you're used to upholding this sort of ban policy yourself
Note: The last word in the game's title is pronounced "OOK-rull." I realize that in the matter of pronouncing the name of the game, it's difficult not to call to mind a certain 1990s TV character. When this happens, you will suppress it immediately and try to forget about it. You will not--WILL NOT!--make any jokes, references, or otherwise discuss said character in the comments; I will delete such comments immediately and ban the commenter from ever posting on my blog again. Got it? OOK-rull.

:what:

How was he even convinced him to play a Wapanese porn game?
