From painfully average to average. You're making progress, i'm proud of you my dude.
Also I don't know what I prefer between the fact you get upset for literally nothing or the fact you go on a button rampage everytime it happens
3.3 is alright for a first novel, and it's certainly above average for this industry.

I wouldn't put much stock in the opinions of Goodreads users. Even Lesi's garbage gets a 3.something average,

Sorry, my incredible writing style has slowly been heavily and sharply influenced by the average PoE, so I must apply inane adjectives wherever I possibly can.

Rating a post is half the fun. Don't get butthurt.

I never said it was bad for a first novel, I just said the novel itself was average according to the reviews, you absolute mongoloid. I don't know what you mean "for this industry", it's not a videogame, it's a book. People who read books aren't going to go "oh, it's written by someone who works in videogames, I'll give them a retard discount and up the score." That's just not how it works.

Dunno any book review sites. Just clicked the first link I saw. Amazon has a 3.5/5 overall rating, although when divided by literary genre interests the avg ratings range from 3.1 to 3.2.

The bloody fuck are you talking about
I meant that expecting actually good novelists to work in video games is unreasonable. It's already a chance to get someone who got a trilogy in their bibliography. Something you could acknowledge if you weren't that edgy.
Literaly all the shit you post, day after day, is edgy one liners and ridiculously negative donkey crap. You're a fucking parody at this point, and even when mca himself, champ among the champs, says that something he read was p.good, you gotta chime in and shitpost like a fucking bot. You fucking spastic.
I'm fucking mad yeah. It'd be easy to program a SentinelBot, a simple AI that scans any news or article quoted in the codex and automatically posts a message that associates keywords picked up here and there and puts them in pregenerated sentences.

This [Keyword_GameName] looks like a steaming turd, what the fuck were these retards thinking ?

That's your contribution right here, day and night.

edit : alright i'm cooled down. I'll leave this retarded post for posterity, plus it's pretty funny.
Sorry TheSentinel, I got fed up with your shit, but that doesn't mean that you're wrong because you're edgy/negative/critical of something, in this case or another.
I do think we could make a bot version of you though, and that it'd be impossible to tell the difference with proper scripting.

Why would you want a good novelist to work in videogames? The skills don't necessarily translate, & the challenges, pacing of work, and range of tools at your disposal are completely different.
I don't give a fuck if you have over 300 confirmed book releases. It's meaningless in the context of videogames.

PS: Actually, maybe this is what's wrong with Obsidian. They've become so enthralled with the pursuit of "good writers" that they completely forgot to hire writers who actually like videogames and want to explore the medium to its full potential. People who want to tie narrative with gameplay. As a result of this what you get is a 6 page essay everytime you talk to a random NPC.

I absolutely loved the way MCA wrapped the "the hard part is letting go" message around the player carry weight limitations and the gold bars at the end of Sierra Madre in Dead Money.
I liked when you lost control of your PC in BG2 because of the slayer curse.
I liked when MotB forced me to feed on spirits to maintain my character alive and tied it all to its story.

What happened to this type of shit?

Did anyone here actually read her books? For all we know it could be some retarded drivel or for that matter some great fantasy books.

TheSentinel letting go is for losers,i got away with all the gold :smug:. Never sold it also, splash it around my casino room, after that i killed a bunch of barbarians and democratic barbarians.

Also i do agree with you, that a good writer doesn't necessary becomes a good game writer. I do believe that a good writer must have a lot experience reading books and games.

Damn. You went wild there. So I should stop saying "PoE2 looks like shit"/"Ain't lookin' too hot" because it hurts your fee-fees? I'll take it under consideration in the name of a friendlier, safer, and more inclusive environment.
I apologize for calling you a mong, CptMace. Deep down, I love you. Thank you for reading.

Point taken. No need to be a dick.
Yeah that was my bad. I started writing the post with the intent of making fun of you but changed my mood by the second sentence while editing.
I actually do apologize btw, wasn't even joking. That was unwarranted aggression on my part.

The number of ratings for her books dropped off considerably - probably because only the fans of the first one read the sequels, leading to a filtering of the negative scores.

Grab the Codex by the pussy
I agree that some of the Goodreads tangent needed to be pruned, but removing literally all of the evidence that Goodreads is shit was retarded.

Anyway, be assured the site is filled with idiots, and none of the ratings are to be treated with any seriousness whatsoever. I guess that's a sensational, censor-able fact around the Codex these days.

I've gone and read the sample chapter for her first book in that recolleta ( or whatever its called ) trilogy. I think switching to writing for games is actually a good move for her. She glosses over a lot of descriptions and focuses more on the dialogue and characters' actions. It's hard to imagine her world, but that wont be a problem in a game.

I started thinking about the female characters in Avellone's world. They're attractive, or wise, or seductive, or manipulative. I'm thinking about Fall-from-Grace, Annah, Safiya, Kaelyn, Kreia, Handmaiden, Visas Marr, Mina, SIE, Scarlet, Madison and Rose of Sharon Cassidy. They're almost all white (some people say assimilated asians are honorary whites) and a lot of them have implied or explicit sexual feelings for a male protagonist. In American culture, creating media with this type of cast is quickly becoming taboo. If Chris ever made another big game, would he need to diversify his characters? Is this something he's written about?

He should worry about writing good characters, and stay clear of identity politics one way or another.

What is your favourite Conan story? Also, if you have time, can you explain why? Have you ever indulged in Conan pastiche, say from Savage Sword of Conan?

Jewels of Gwahlur, because it plays Conan as smart and there’s a moment where Conan proves he’s a hero over succumbing to greed, and it's an instinctive part of who he is, not something he has to think about.

There’s also a lot of moments I liked in various Conan’s stories that keep coming back over the years, but it’d take a while to remember and list out.

He has time to comment on inane poetry but not so much when he has to give some answers on his promised Arcanum playthrough.
Maybe it was Urquhart's idea and this brings back... memories...

So how about Chris "Postpone" Avellone?
Who forced you into accepting to play Arcanum for coverage?

I can’t remember who originally suggested it (there were a lot of owner suggestions – like a second city as a stretch goal in PoE1), but it doesn’t matter since I agreed to find time to do it, even after Obs.

To answer your original question, though, I don’t know when I’ll do it, and I probably won’t mention a time frame until I’m sure (I think announcing or suggesting dates unless you’re 100% sure is a bad idea, as proven).

Chris, could you dedicate some time to the Codex interview (the one by Fairfax) pretty please? It has been in the working since... years?

I know you are busy and such, but I keep seeing your interviews on, arguably, less prestigious places than ours, and this hurts me deep in my heart.

I did a Part 1, but I don’t know how many of those answers are valid anymore, and I know Fairfax wanted to do all the questions as one (there’s a lot, though, and the answers would be longer than a lot of design documents I’ve had to write). This isn’t a slam on the people asking questions (since a lot of them aren’t Fairfax’s questions) or on Fairfax, it’s just a lot of questions, and sometimes, several questions in one question. It’s often why it’s easier to answer questions on Twitter because it keeps the question short and the answer short by necessity.

I’m not going to have time to answer them in their entirety any time soon, however, but if you have a (single) question, I’d be happy to answer it.

BTW, what other sites have I done interviews on? I know I did a Star Wars one as a favor b/c some nice person from Poland found my passport on the sidewalk and got it back to me (and refused to be rewarded), but she asked if I could help her friend out with the Star Wars interview, so I did. Otherwise, I'd probably still be in Poland. Forever.

I do have one coming up on RPS on the non-story narrative in Into the Breach, but I don't think that's what you're referring to. Also, note that it can be months after an interview is done before it gets published, so my memory may be foggy.

What are the odds of some random person in another country finding your passport knowing exactly who you are?

 Yep, there sure were a lot of owner suggestions, like [something outrageous that we shouldn't have offered but had to do anyway once we were obligated to]
