Hi all,

You may remember when I had Chris Avellone on Shane Plays Radio a few weeks back he offered to set up an all Numenera show with Monte Cook Games.

Well, he made good and this Saturday Chris will be joining me along with Shanna Germain of Monte Cook Games to talk the Numenera RPG, Cypher System and etc.

Note that this will involve a lot of discussion of the tabletop version of Numemera, but Chris did say if there was anything he could share about Torment: Tides of Numenera he would.

As with last time, if you have any questions for Chris or Shanna let me know and I'll try to work them in if possible (I've been able to ask some Codexer questions with Chris Avellone and also Whalenought Studios for ya in past shows).

Keep in mind this is a Numenera themed show and not a general "Chris Avellone" show like last time.

Also, for those interested in the show you can catch it live:
Saturday, Sep 19th @ 1:05 PM Central / 11:05 AM Pacific
Little Rock: 96.5FM The Answer
Online: http://965fmtheanswer.com/ + TuneIn & iHeartRadio apps

You can call in to the show as well (it's live radio) at 501-823-0965 and/or tweet me @ShanePlays.

After the live show it'll be pushed out as a podcast on Patreon and my blog at http://shaneplays.com. I'll likely post it in this thread as well.

Thanks!
Shane

Can you ask Shanna if she was the reason Monte and his wife divorced ?

And could you ask her why Monte left WOTC right after joining the design team for D&D5e?

This isn't some TV magazine ambush interview :) Even if I were interested in learning those details, I wouldn't burn my relationships just to tickle folks gossip bone :P

So, I should say... do folks have questions about Numenera or the Cypher System or Torment: Tides of Numenera or Monte Cook Games that don't involve Springer moments?

For Chris:
How does the extent of your involvement with the game compare to Pillars of Eternity?
Are you designing areas for the game?

1. Can you provide a bit more color on how inXile approached you with Torment? What kind of ruleset or setting were they looking for that made Numenara the right choice?

2. Can you talk a bit about how Monte Cook Games interacts with inXile now? Do you provide feedback on the game's setting? Are you able to influence any creative decisions (i.e. That thing wouldn't be like that in Numenara!)? Or is it a pretty much carte blanche?

3. When adapting PnP rulesets to cRPGs, the two main camps seem to be turn based and RTwP. Do you have a sense of which works better to capture the PnP experience? Are there any alternatives to turn based or RTwP that you'd like to see implemented in a cRPG?

Lot of folk talk about how you should just pump WIS and INT in Torment, but I found a high STR build really viable: Use the specialisation bonus to go to 19 from base 18, train with Vhailor to gain a further 3 points, this without spending a point while levelling and so you can still round out most of the rest of your attributes. You can make a superlative arsekicker who'll beat Vhailor like a red headed step child, but has access to all the content high WIS and INT gets eventually. Will we be able to kick arse like this in Numenera?

Them little individual combat gestures depending on your weapon, finding old weapons (Justifier) that served the same role as Morte, and making a fucking juggernaut out of your Nameless, real underrepresented and enjoyable part of the game.

ya i got a few questions mmk

1. The parallels to Planescape are obvious in setting, theme, the PC, etc., but what are some small differences in the two are particularly interesting to you as a writer?

2. How is a companion generally designed? Do you start with their overall impact in the world, or start from them as a personality and build from there?

3. What are some challenges presented by the Numenera setting? (in terms of narrative/writing/ya)

4. Has it been difficult translating the tabletop rules into the game?

Question for Chris: Are you going to figure out a way to include an 80s song in ToN?

I audited the inventory of a company outside of Little Rock once....all I remember is that the company was overly paranoid and that Little Rock was a smallish airport full of nice people.

EDIT: Looking forward to the show :)

Felt like a wasted conversation.

Anyways, how Numenera PnP is doing? I thought nobody bothered with it after KS..

I tried to work in some T:TON in general but ran out of time during Q&A... sorry. I'll ask Chris if maybe he can pop by the thread.

What was the answer?

Better than most of the questions itt, including yours. Plus I have an offbeat reputation to maintain.
Reputation is doing you wonders, 55 people ignoring you and counting.

Someone please give me an estimate of what time my question is asked so I don't have to listen to a bunch of things I don't care about ^_^.
