Since we are convinced that the massacre is not done by our troops, I see no point in lying, but I don't want to let them take the loot at the ruins :P

2B - Don't want to be quarantined, they probably need to hear what happened in Qoor, but are likely to fear anyone who has come into contact with a mysterious disease.

Saying who we are should help a bit, afterall Kyoss' father is supposed to have been in the royal army himself some years past. At the worst it won't mean anything to this guy, at best we'll find someone who knows him/of him and can shed some light on what he did there.
The B part is for the same reason Monty explained. We do not want to spend the next few years in isolation.

All of you voted 2. For second choice, B had 7 votes, A had 4. 2B then it is.

18 – Meeting the Lord of Bitak

You decide to be honest with the captain. After all, you see no reason to risk being caught lying. And besides, someone needs to know about what you saw. You start by introducing yourself, and stating that you hail from Tulik. For a moment, you hope that this captain may have known about your father, but if so he does not show it. Then again, your father retired over 20 years ago, and he was certainly not a high ranking officer.

You then proceed to tell about your journey, starting with the slaughtered caravan and continuing with your travel through the forest. After a moment of hesitation, you do not mention the second ruined village. You think that they might be afraid of that mysterious "disease". You do not want them to think you may be contagious... And finally, you describe what transpired at Qoor, which seems to shake the soldiers.

The captain listens to you intently, his face cold and unmoving. After you are done, he speaks "Lord Medah will want to hear this, and then decide.". He makes a gesture to his men, and you are gently but firmly escorted to the gates, and then inside Bitak.

You try your best to avoid looking like a country bumpkin, but you're not sure you manage. Though just a big village, you have never seen something like this. You can't believe so many people are living in a single place. And paved roads, you never saw them before. You can't help but stare, especially when the patrol brings you before a tall stone mansion, and then ushers you inside.

The captains enters what you suppose is the lord's chamber to report, while you are stripped of your weapons and equipment. The soldiers just tell you they will be given back afterwards, if the lord wishes so. After a few minutes, the captain leaves and you enter the chamber. Inside, there's an elegant desk, some chairs, and two people. One seems to be some sort of advisor, a very old man with sharp eyes . The other is Lord Medah.

Lord Medah is a tall man in his early thirties, with long black hair and beard. Contrary to what you might have expected, he seems very well built, but his eyes are sharp as he observes you. Then, in a commanding voice, he speaks.

"So, I am being told that your name is Kyoss Vackel and that you hail from Tulik in the north. I would like to know more, about you, about why you left the village and about what you saw during your journey"

You start your story with your family and their deaths, and the reasons for your journey. You see no reason to hide these things, not to mention you already gave your name before. Lord Medah makes his condolences, commenting on how there's been a resurgence of the Green Plague in the last few years, and chuckles a bit at your ambitions. "If only everyone was ambitious like this!" he says, and you think he's complimenting you a bit. You can see his aide watching you carefully, weighting everything you say. This old man sure seems sharp!

After this, it's time to talk about your journey. He already knows some, the captain must have reported what you told him before.

But... how much should you tell Lord Medah? (semi-open choice)

A) Say everything that happened to you
B) Say everything that happened to you except from the ruins north of Qoor with the disease/sudden deaths
C) Other. Make a proposal and put a letter on it

Also, you're presented with an opportunity here. You are before a Lord of the realm, who knows when this will happen again...

Will you ask Lord Medah something? This is an open choice, if you have something you think Kyoss should ask, or say, make a proposal and put a number on it.

A) - I think it might be best to tell the whole truth. If asked why we did not relate this information to the guards, we could state, quite truthfully, that we were afraid they would believe us to be infected and lock us up somewhere (or worse). After all, while good and loyal men, they might not have comprehended, as the great Lord surely does, that since we observed the ruins solely from a safe distance, and also subsequently travelled in good health for over 10 days, it would be extremely unlikely, at best, for us to have contracted the hypothetical disease in question.

As for the second choice, perhaps we could offer our services, and if possible, inquire about Kyoss' father.

A) Say everything that happened to you

Then answer Lord Medah's questions (he's bound to have some). Listen carefully to what he says and after he's done see if there's a chance for employment, possibly close to the Lord's retinue (a place to stay at would be a good start). Try to "avoid looking like a country bumpkin" in the meanwhile.

State that we are a loyal subject of the realm and wish to know if there is any way we can serve his lordship. Mention the fact that we can read and write and can provide regular reports on whatever task he might set us to.

During character creation it seemed like the consensus favored a cunning protagonist. Here's our first chance to make inroads with the only class of society that counts!

Hmm. I like this attempt to get employed close to the Lord himself, saying how useful we are. I briefly considered offering to enlist in the army but that would have probably closed more doors than it would have opened. If we can convince this guy we can be useful (perhaps as a scout in the wilderness, with the ability to send back written reports when necessary) it would be a big step up. We would have access to training and decent equipment at the very least, and a chance to witness firsthand how the plot moves forward in this corner of the world.

A) modified for me too. I agree on being honest with the guy, he probably knows what's in the ruined plagued hamlet anyway and if we say we went near there and didn't notice anything we'll be considered poor liars and idiots at the best.

A, and ask him if he has any services needed.

Remember we have competent level literacy, so perhaps he could use us a secretary or something.

A for me too. I was concerned the guards would refuse us entry or quarantine us if we mentioned the plague village, but we've now got an opportunity to properly explain ourselves.

I also like the suggestions which take into account our skills, particularly our ability to survive on our own in the wilderness, so Curufinwe's idea of some sort of scout sounds ideal. Perhaps we could get some training on our bow here and yes, we should ask about our father on the off chance he encountered him in the past.

I think our unique talent here is more our literacy, rather than our mediocre woodsman/scout skills.

Oscars right. I doubt literacy is common among peasants and If we can show him we can read and survive, alone in the woods. He will be doubly impressed. Can we read something off his desk, or on the walls or something?
