Hi Guys,

Update: Launch and Dev Talk.

Launched on Steam: http://store.steampowered.com/app/355810/

A new update also launched after 10 days since release, check here: http://steamcommunity.com/games/centauri-sector/announcements/detail/111811318157682882

Dev Talk, Launch info and more.

People liked the game, but some they said its too short and simple, other complained its too hard, and so on. Cant please everybody but overall people liked it.

Its not easy these days to release alone a game on Steam, you have compete with uncurated games which are usually unity default assets scams, or high profile indie non games, or the usual platform/zombie whatever is trendy now. Of course they are also awesome indie games like Darkest Dungeon, Kerbal, Rimworld and more , which are great and deserve all the visibility they receive.

If Steam continues like this, it will become the next apple store, due no curation, and massive influx of games. For example on the first days, i was in top 20 popular new release, but i got under the top 10 because of old games that appeared there for no reason. Steam also gives you some free visibility rounds which you use at launch and for major updates. Man, the conversion for those is lower then if i would put an banner on porn hub. Its still something of course, but its very weird on conversion and click rates.

I send pre-release keys to almost all "gaming press", but they were busy talking about free pixel art games, or some other non sense. Of course a few wrote a few articles and some youtubers made some cool videos, and it didnt help that i had some rare game breaking bugs on the launch version, that because i made the game with several different mechanics, and it was quite hard to test, but community and friends helped squash those, and will do with each update.

The game was a little unfocused, i tried to mix several mechanics, and some players didn't liked that there wasn't enough depth for each, and in some parts i agree with them. On the next project, i will focus on a fewer mechanics(most likely its gona be a turn based game) and make those great, instead of making several news one just for the diversity sake.

Thats it for now.

You have my attention.

Tell us more about that dynamic campaign.

There are 2 major factions that fight each other, they produce armies based on their success (resources). For small factions like pirates, if they succeed in their attacks, they get more resources and they can create more wings/ships. If they get get destroyed quickly, they take a breath to recover their losses or even initiate desperate attacks against the colonies, or against player fleets.

Each planet has a production queue, based on what happens in each solar system, they start to construct civilian transports(they deliver supplies and improve morale), if they are not enough available, or war ships to patrol the area. The speed of this is influenced by System Morale, which is improved when a supply ships reaches its destination, or when the player completes a mission, but is reduced when missions are failed, and bigtime when friendly ships are destroyed or colonies are attacked. Planet production can be controlled by the player when it reaches a certain rank (Fleet Admiral).

The other major faction, works similar, they need planets with a stable production to produce fleets and engage in warfare against their enemies. So the player can use fast fleet to engage in guerilla warfare like pirates, and raid their supply routes to slow the production.

While raising in ranks, the player will gain control over additional fleets, which he can directly control on the turn based campaign map, manage planet production and more.

For Alpha 1, you will be able to play in the first Solar System, Tabula Rasa and fight against the pirates and their guerilla attacks, until you manage to find their Pirate Base to silence them for good. In Alpha 2 you will be thrown in the major faction war, where things get more complex and interesting.

Thanks Thane, took the code from the bottom link. I'll be sure to check it out, later this week. Your descriptions give me a slight vibe of 'Mount & Blade in space'.

thanks mate. My plan is to finish the game before summer, or earlier, most likely April-May, as for the financial situation, i will finish the game no matter what. Will see after the launch if i can recover some investments and even have money to make more, hopefully. I will post more about this adventure in the next months, and after the launch, on how hard is to make non hipster platformer/minecraft clone game on PC market alone, and try to sell them for more than 1$... with a small budget.
