How long until people can start feeling nostalgic for the the modern warfare shooter era

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2016-03-29-this-years-call-of-duty-is-set-in-space-report

This year's Call of Duty is set in space - report
Infinity Ward developing far future sci-fi take.

The next Call of Duty will feature a radical departure for the series - it's set in space.

2016's Call of Duty will offer space combat between warring sci-fi groups in the far flung future.

Previous entries in the series such as Advanced Warfare and Black Ops 3 have strayed into the near-future, but this year's Call of Duty will be firmly placed in sci-fi territory.

First details of the game appeared online over the weekend, from serial industry source Shinobi. The information tallies with reports Eurogamer has independently heard.

The game is being developed by Infinity Ward and is not a direct sequel of its previous Call of Duty effort, Ghosts, which received a mixed response.

That said, we're hoping a descendant of Colin the dog makes an appearance.

Call of Duty is expected to launch this November for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and go up against EA's own shooter effort Battlefield 5. Both games' releases will be bookended by two other sci-fi shooters - the mech-based Titanfall 2, likely set to arrive in early autumn, and BioWare's role-playing sequel Mass Effect: Andromeda, due in early 2017.

Activision declined to comment when contacted for this story.

Finally, they are doing something brave, innovative and fresh, this will be a real breath of fresh air in a sea of samey modern military shooters! Congrats to Infinity Ward and Acti for showing some spine in today's industry conditions, IMO this must be supported with a preorder!

You know that people will write crap like that with 100% seriousness.:D

Now if the rumors of Battlefield 5 being a WWI game are true then it will for once be easy to tell screenshots from the two big military shooters apart.

Does CoD already have emoshunal engaging romances these days? If not, they just have to add those and nobody will care about the upcoming Mass Effect anymore. With Colin Shepard the SPACEdog.

At least CoD knows that giving players what they want (regardless how shitty it is) keeps sales up and the customers happy. Instead of... well ME3 showing how not to do it.

Watch there be sound in space. And combustion weapons working in a vacuum.

You have no idea how guns work do you?

The cartridge is self-contained and has enough oxygen to start the reaction once the primer has been ignited, infact it still has enough power to cycle the action of a machine gun. The only issues really with firearms in space is the gun overheats faster and takes longer to cool down because there's nothing in space to absorb heat, and the lubricants getting fucked up because the moisture getting vaporized or some shit like that. The latter can fixed by using dry lubricants instead.

A shooter in zero gravity that actually respects the laws of physics (no sound, gunshots send you backwards, gun overheats are concern) would be cool, but there's no way CoD will be that.

Wouldn't the gun overheating be a very bad thing? Like, isn't there a chance of the gunpowder detonating from the heat? Or am I thinking of antiquated gunpowder?

Cover you have to run to is last gen. With scifi energy shields you can have cover at the press of a button without the hassle to look for it.

Definitely, not just because of rounds cooking off, there are tons of reasons like the heat the cause to droop as well and possible cause the barrel to explode, rip out the rifling or out right kill the gas/piston system.

In short just watch this redneck gunstore owner magdump an M-16, AKM, and a glock with a gigglemode.

Notice that it takes about 8 to 10 minutes and 800+ rounds for the rifles and 600+ for the glock of non stop of magdumping. More than a person will carry or shoot in a firefight but normal in a video game, my guess in outerspace it might do it in half the rounds or can still get overheated the same amount of rounds over a period of a couple of hours or both.

Not gonna lie, if it really is WWI I might check it out.

Especially if Canada and the Ross Rifle are options. It would be a nasty trick on players when they see this bolt action rifle with incredible speed, range, and good firepower for its type of weapon, but as soon as you use it it always jams and if you're unlucky the bolt will shoot off and gouge your eye.

With energy shields and evasive maneuvers this is sounds more like spaceship simulator than shooter. So whats the tactical idea behind pew pew pew in space? I mean isn't it's more efficient just blast off other party with spaceship main cannon. Even if you trying capture spacebase/spaceship it's better for attacking party travel in shuttle towards breach and for defense party sit on reinforced positions instead of engaging in "space combat".

Whisky that's only if you reassemble it wrong and only one a single set of them.

It will fuck up with the slightest mud though.

Good thing the trenches of the western front were a largely mud-free environment ;)

I never said it didn't deserve to be remembered as an unreliable rifle, just that the bolt flying backwards thing wasn't that easy to trigger.
