Well, now its defineatly going into obsession, but this (propsed by Saint to shut me up) is not a bad idea- the Flame people are Roman in nature correct? Than surely you must realize that thse people must eventually evolve into something diffirent.
And if you really wanna progress the Roman style correctly, why not have a group of Byzantine-like people? With a diffirent, more complex religion and a diffirent style- yet still recognizeable.

I can understand that, and did not actually plan to post anything on Byzantium for awhile until this idea came up, but this makes sense.
The heir of the Roman Empire was Byzantium, therefore if a sequel is made to Prelude it makes sense that stylistically the Fire people would be closer to the Byzantines.

Why? The Valley isn't the Earth, so even if the Cinders are inspired by the Romans, there's nothing that says they have to walk the same path their real world counterparts did.

Azeal you made a contradiction.. you saying that they had counterparts in the real world would mean they would follow the path that was taken by them.. if they would not follow that path they would not be counterparts.

What else would they evolve into?
Nothing else makes sense- the Byzantine system was more or less the direct descendant of the twin Eastern movement and the excess of wealth.

How about them evolving to something different? Unless you want to claim that all Roman-like people would have to evolve to something Byzantine-like, that is.

The Cinders surely have some Greco-Roman influences, but the Valley isn't exactly the lands around the Mediterranean Sea.

But the anarchists and the Valley people- if the Anarchists have any kind of influence on the world ( as Christianity did) it looks like it would be possible.
It is the natural progression of the Hellanic civilization- Minoan, Mycanean, Athenian, MAcedonian, Roman, Byzantine, Ottoman/Slavic. Simple.

Sorry to say this but...history is everything but simple. The evolution of cultures, society's, governments and civilications depend on many many different factors. It is all but impossible to say which way historie will go.
Want some examples?

The sudden collapse of the ussr in 1989
The explosive rise of the islam during the days of the prophet mohammed
The sudden rise and decline of the mongols
The rise and fall of muslim rule in Spain
The first world war after the assasination of the austrian emperor
The transition from a feudal system into democracy in europe
The industrial revolution and it's many social changes

Sure, its easy to point out reasons why you think this or that happened, but it is impossible to dictate the way history will go. Way too many things to take into consideration, and then there is always the randomn element that you can't foresee.
You just can't say that it is simple or even natural that a civilisation will devellop into a certain way (byzantine or other)
No matter how much you would want it that way
