BROS FIRST IMPRESSSFIONS WAS THAT VOGEL WAS POPAMOLE BUT AFTER A BIT THE LAME TUTORIAL SECTION ENDEED AND I GOT TO PLAY AVERNUM FOR REAL

MORE SHIT WAS BLOCKED OFF LIKE BRO YOU CQANET GO THERE YOU SDONRT HAVE ORDERS YET

ANYWAYS THOUGH THERE WAS ENOUGH EXPLORAATION TO STILL MAKE IT FUN AND THE SET PEACE BATTLES SEEMED MORE FUN TO ME THAN HIS OTHER GAMES BUT MAYBE IM USED TO HIS SHIT ANYWAYS THE BOSS BROS SEEMED LESS ANNOYING AND MORE FUN

BROS I STARTED WITH AVERNUM 4 THEN 5 THEN 1 2 3 THEN 6

AVERNUM 2 WAS MY FAVORITE NARROWLY BEATING OUT 1 THO HONEST I AM TO DRUNK TO REEMBER WHY BOTH WERE JUST AWESOME

3 WAS MY LEAST FAVORITE IT HAD WAY LESS OPTIONSD AND EVEN THOUGH IT WAS ON THE OVERWORLD EERYTHING SEEMED WAY MORE LINEAR AND LESS INTERESTEING

4 SEEFS TO BE REGARDED AS THE WORST BY LOTS OF BROS AND TO TELL YOU THE TRUTH IT WAS MY FIRST AVERNUM SO IT IS HARD TO JUDGE I WAS DRAWN IN PRETTY QUICKUY

BROS THE COOLEST THING I THINK ABOUT GENEFORGE AND AVERNUM IS THAT THERE IS A GOOD STORYLINE OVER THE ENTRIER SERIES AND REALLY I CANT THINK OF ANY OTHER SERIES THAT TELLS A COHERENT STORY OVER A BUNCH O GAMES LIKE VOGEL

NOT TO BE ALL STORYFAG BUT THE RISE AN INEVITABLE DECLINER OF AVERNUM SEEMED TO BE A COOL OVERARCHING STORY AND OF COURSE SOME CHOICES MADE FOR DIFFERENCWES IN THE END

TO SUM UP BROS THE AVERNUM SERIES IS GREAT

THE EXPLORATION AND SENSDE OF CHARACTER PROGRESSION AND LOOT AND ALL THAT IS FOR THE MOST PART REALLY FUN

THE WORST PART INSD THAT THE GAMES IS REALLY FUCKIING LONG WITH REPETIVER COMBAT AND SOMETIMES YOU ARE JUST REALLY FUCKING DONE I THINK I GOT 60 TO 80 HOURS FOR THE ONERS ON STEAM

Cool, thanks for the summary Bro. Have you played any other Vogel games, how does the game compare to something like Avadon?

Jokes on you, behind that caps locks you can find best posts on this site.

His last non-capsed post was not that good, though.

The best non-capsed Blobert posts that I can recall were the couple he wrote in the Sir-Tech thread about his adventures with Cleve when they supposedly worked together. Those were fucking brilliant.

I love BLOBERT's posts, I actually dig his concept. If you see total CAPSLOCK and BROs, you know it's him. I like this kind of identification on forums.

BLOBERT started off normal here. Somebody posted something that blew his mind. I cannot remember exactly what now, but ever since then, apart from the odd post and review, he is always capslocked.

It was because of skyway.

Then before brofist harvesting was a thing he thought of using capslock as the only way to attract attention to his posts.

In honor of my other topic started today about suspension of suspension of disbelief, I remember playing Geneforge 1, and really rather digging it, until a bomb went off in battle near one of my characters who was separated from the rest of the group that insta-kills him, but yet my entire group that I thought was safely away from the explosion dies too. It bugged me but I continued to play until I hit a city when I got bored and left the game. Still found something compelling about it though. Jeff's indies reek of quailty.

Avernum 6 is my favorite Avernum. It's not as open world right off the bat, but the setting is the best. It's a dying empire, where terrorism, drug use, and famine are rampant, and most people are evacuating to the surface, which gives it a completely different tone than all the other avernums.

You need to play Nethergate: Resurrection now, Blobert. I'm currently playing through as Celts (played as Romans first time). It's a very different game depending on who you play as. Romans have limited magic usage, but stronger melee. While Celts have more magic, yet weaker melee.

Plus, while a few high level areas are locked off until mid-game, it's way more open world than Vogel's later stuff. And the historical storyline is very different in tone and setting than Avernum or Geneforge.

I enjoyed Avernum 6 for a while, but eventually the segmented world, repetitive combat and HP bloat got to me enough that I couldn't continue. It's a shame because I was interested in the plot, and it's probably too obscure a game to ever get LP'd.

For real. I got 192 hours clocked on Steam and still got to finish the last two quests for the damn dragon.

It's hard to top Senor BLOBERT , but here are some of my thoughts after beating the game yesterday.

+ Easily the best interface of the Avernum series.
+ Magic was overpowered in Avernum IV, nerfed too much in Avernum V, and feels about right here. Too bad Vogel strikes a decent balance right when he's ending the series.
+ Arcane magic for the win! I went with a fighter-locks specialist, a priest, and two arcane spellcasters. I still love wrecking havoc with multiple fireballs and summons.
+ The final battle is the best of the second trilogy. In Avernum IV I felt like I had to gradual take apart the enemy's defenses and traps to get to the final boss. In Avernum V, they had continuous battles with the same kinds of Imperials over and over again. Avernum VI is a straight out assault between your forces and a demon army, and you are actually backed up with Avernum soldiers. Actually getting help from the kingdom you are trying to save? How is that for an awesome change of pace in a CRPG?
+ The storyline is pretty solid. I don't think the answer is ever settled on what caused the Blight, though it could have been any of Avernum's various enemies. I know my characters never discovered who was really behind it. The motivations of the various factions are understandable, and Avernum doesn't come across as completely innocent in it's dealings with ogres and goblins and others. This is a case where less is more, as there is much less dialogue than in Avadon, but more believable characters and complex motives.
+ The series was consistently good. I think the Geneforge series had a couple moments that were better than Exile/Avernum, but I think this series stayed consistently good over the entirety of it's run... mostly because Geneforge 3 was so bad.

+/- Ultimately, your choices in the game lack consequences. Yes, your actions save lives, but the end game makes it clear that things just sort of settle on their own. Geneforge made me feel way more in control of how the saga ended. On the other hand, not all the important characters of the series make it to see the end and it was appropriately bittersweet in saying goodbye to them and to Avernum.

- Parts of the game stick you on a railroad. The game tricks you into thinking it's an open world like its predecessors, but then sticks overly-powered enemies in certain areas that you have no chance of beating. I don't understand why Vogel didn't just lock those areas away with magical barriers and unpickable doors until you complete certain quests, like he's done in other parts of this game and in the previous ones. It was frustrating trying to explore Avernum and suddenly get swamped by uber-powerful forces simply because I wasn't at the right part of the storyline. This made me frustrated and I stopped exploring the world.
- The Exile trilogy is still better than this. I still lack an indicator of line of sight in this game and had to try and eyeball my arcane spells; unlike the original Exile series that drew a helpful line from my spellcasting character to the centroid of where I wanted the spell effect to land. I still would rather have a party of six characters instead of four.
- The game drags in places at the last quarter of the game, when you are sent behind enemy lines. It should have been the most exciting portion of the game, but by this point there is no real variety to the monsters you face or situations that are thrown at you and it starts feeling like a chore.

Alright, It took me 20 years but I've completed Exile 1-3 and Avernum 4-6. Goodbye, Exile/Avernum. Next up, the Queen's Wish. Time to see if Vogel has gotten better or worse. The Queen's Wish can't be worse than Avadon, right guys? Right?
