"Activision specifically noted in its announcement that it "sold more than $1 billion of Call of Duty: Ghosts into retail stores worldwide as of day one," meaning the figure is made up of units sold to retailers and not necessarily sales to consumers."

I keep waiting for the CoD franchise to die out the way all of activision's properties eventually do, but it just won't die.

you are wrong, it is not a bad arcade game, on the contrary, thats why it has been so successful, because is an arcade game, it is not a simulation of war, people forget that before MW the only games with modern setting were the Tom Clancy ones and they were too much about tactics, you have to move or order your partners and don't let them die, MW was the first FPS where you just have to go lone wolf and don't worried about your team. It was a different kind of game, not better, just different.

I guess if you pretend Battlefield doesn't exist.

Edit: as for modern setting. It wasn't as arcadey as CoD obviously.

Has this guy never heard of the earlier CoD games? Quake? Doom? Wolfenstein? In all of those you played lone wolf.

There's even a "lone wolf" FPS called Operation: Wolf.

But no, because that all happened TOO LONG AGO, it doesn't count.

The factor that you are missing is that a complete noob can boot the game, run around randomly, kill people and have a jolly good time feeling awesome. That's the distilled essence of CoD and why it's so popular with the unwashed console masses. The game is finely tuned with controlled randomness such that even the worst players can get kills by mere virtue of being spawned in the right place at the right time, and when they do they get the "awards" and "levels" fed to them like heroin injected right onto the screen.

Fuck that, what about Medal of Honor, which Call of Duty was an explicit riff on at first...and whose "lone wolf" nature CoD meant to eschew? He's got it completely ass-backwards.

I actually completely forgot about Medal of Honor AA. That game was great fun in multiplayer. We spent so much time playing with panzerfausts on the Stalingrad map as children.

I don't know if this was posted before, but the president of Tripwire Interactive (Red Orchestra, Rising Storm) spoke about how CoD essentially destroyed the FPS genre with its narrow skill gap a while back. I've never played their games, but it's an interesting read.

He mentioned modern war setting before that, so I assume that's what he meant. Not that I'd be shocked that random YT commentator is that retarded. And he/she's still wrong anyway.

Yeah, COD made squad based single player campaign popular. COD was a sucess because they have stray from the lone wolf path.

CoD is popular because it is so easy, a cave man can do it.

The perfect way to placate the 'sap with. Melonheads know how to keep the chattel in line. Keep them occupied with enturdtainment even a spear-chucking assmonkey understands, while they rule the word under a facade of demokwacy.

Just look at that enlarged cranium, all that extra brain volume hard at work to keep the 'sap busy with his toys and distracted from the thruth. You can't win with a being of far superior 500000+ skull cc :M
