1. Vampire Bloodlines I guess, but I've never really thought "Wow this game has a great story" while playing an RPG.
2. Gothic for exploration, Bloodlines for ambience. These should be different categories. Morrowind does both well but neither as good as these two games.
3. Like with story/narrative I've never been blown away by C&C in an RPG. I feel like Dragon Age Origins had some good moments here but I haven't played since it came out so I don't know.
4. Knights of the Chalice
5. Wizardry 8

1) Ultima IV
2) Ultima IV or Morrowind, depending on my mood.
3) Ultima IV
4) I can't really pick a game since I don't give a fuck about tacticool combat by itself, but only when synergizing with character customization, exploration, resource management and so on.
5) Darklands

Tough to pick one per category but here goes:

Story/Narrative
: Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II - The Sith Lords

Exploration/Ambience: The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

Choices & Consequences: The Witcher series (taken as a whole)

Strategic Battles: Shadowrun: Dragonfall Director's Cut

Character Creation/Progression: This is a tough one, I'm tempted to say Mask of the Betrayer or Pillars of Eternity, will need to come back to this one

Edit Log: Swapped Torment for KOTOR 2 for Story/Narrative
PoE has the worst character progression of any cRPG I've played though.

1) PST/KotOR2
2) Morrowind/Fallout1
3) Fallout/New Vegas
4) Temple of Elemental Evil (I'm tempted to recommend Wizardry 8 but it's respawning trash mobs after trash mobs, not really strategical battles)
5) Wizardry 8/Fallout

All of these crummy categories and the most important one (OST) gets ignored. Then again the answer is obvious and likely unanimous, one would expect.

And no mentions of System Shock yet? For shame.
