Ok, bros, I need advice on good torrent clients. I was satisfied with (microtorrent) utorrent for years and now I'm fed up with it's shit. It all started when they started giving normal version for free, but you have to pay for "plus" version and I hate that shit. It irritates my when I try to open the torrent I downloaded and it says that it has a potential virus (it doesn't) and if I bought the plus version, I would be safe... Also, connection is shit, disc overload error cripples my download no matter what I do, some torrents won't even download because of numerous and various errors etc. So I decided to finish with this formerly nice torrent client (small, simple, efficient) that has now turned into a piece of shit.

I never used any other, as this was sufficient. So, can some of you more knowledgeable bros give some good advice?

Alex_Steel: thanks, I will look into it, seems like a good suggestion. Just hope they won't go the utorrent route.

Can I turn off the constant "you need to update" messages?

Works perfectly, even with magnet links? And with none of the shit I said? (disc overload, doesn't want to download some torrents, no irritating "update me" messages...)

Magnet links are in uTorrent v2 upwards, but v2 is still before the corporate takeover, I use 2.2.1 which is the last v2.

Well it uses more system resources(cpu and ram) than utorrent. If you have more than 3 gigs of ram I think you won't notice a difference.

Magnet links work, and you can turn the update warning off. Don't know about problems with torrent downloads or disc overload, since i never encountered those issues before.

Yeah, one more requirement, I should be able to have 0 seeding on a particular torrent even before it starts while I download it.

I still think uTorrent 3 is alright - you can disable most of the bloatware. However, I'm definitely in the market for an alternative if possible, but I haven't been able to find anything remotely as good. Tried Azureus and it's got even more crap than uTorrent... hell, at this rate I'll just use Chromium or something to download them.

Yeah, I've switched from Azureus/Vuze to Utorrent 2.2.1

The bloatware shit is getting too much. Oh, you want to set my search engine and homepage and add some fucking toolbars? Good riddance.

The checkmark thingies next to the toolbar and engine and homepage offers? You click them, and they don't happen.

I'm using free uTorrent 3.1.2 and it's just as light in resources as the old versions, it never tells me to upgrade to Plus, never makes a mention of virus anywhere, no overload since version 1.x. My only problem with it is that when using Magnet links I can't choose which files to download or not because the program just doesn't know what's inside until it connects to a seed or peer.

I know but it's annoying me that it's automatically ticked. Used to be so that you had to tick them if you wanted additional shit. Some programs install them automatically unless you select "custom installation" or find some elusive "Advanced" button.

Well, I agree. The trend in subtly introducing bloatware to your computer through installations is annoying. And I wished I believed so strongly that these things should be taken away from current business practices that I would deprive myself of using a good program for the sake of my principles.

Unfortunately, uTorrent continues to be (to my knowledge) the best option around, so I'll just keep fighting the good fight by unchecking the toolbars and search engines (and instruct everyone that installs new software on their computer to look out for those kind of things).

Utorrent 221, biatch! Check the option to turn off a few reminder options and you are all set.

If you are using a NAS, go for Transmission.

Network Attached Storage. Stacked and racked hard drives accessible from your network. Great for when you don't want to have an entire computer just to have more than 4 hard drives.
