the thing I am wondering is, BioWare/EA own all the rights to the characters of Baldur's Gate (If I understand that correctly).
Unlikely. Most of these characters are also in Baldur's Gate novels, and TSR WOTC isn't likely to hand out assets they have used in their own property. Imagine them reprinting the novel trilogy to tie in with EEs, and getting sued by EA, oh irony.

Jaheira, Minsc, Imoen, Aerie, Sarevok etc... are not Characters designed by BioWare?

Glory days! I just bought both EEs on iPad to celebrate this news!

:troll:
No, seriously I actually did. But before I heard about this. I don't know why I did, though.

Who cares who "designed" them? They are a part of Forgotten Realms IP, that's for sure. Except maybe for Aerie, she wasn't in the books, so nobody gives a fuck.

Seriously, I get people appreciating stuff like improved pathfidning, easier looting, native support for widescreent etc. - obviously the price they charged was completely retarded, but depending on how you're feeling today they can be considered actual improvements. But the additional content, quest, maps, NPCs - these were just plain bad, definitely the worst part of BG1/2 EEs (well, maybe after the plethora of bugs that fucked up games that were working perfectly for the last decade). So this seems like a really bad idea, although I guess they need to continue the milking and the games for "enhancement" run out.

Am I the only one looking forward to infinity engine next game that features real-time gameplay with quasi-real-time combat. The engine uses an isometric perspective with pre-rendered 2D backgrounds and sprite-based characters. Although graphically 2D for the most part, BG2 demonstrated that the engine could use OpenGL acceleration for visual effects. Designed for six character party-based adventuring by default, the Infinity Engine was the spiritual successor to the Gold Box Engine, and provided the basis for five Dungeons & Dragons licensed computer role-playing games plus additional expansion packs.
People today get dragon age inquisiton, they bitch and moan that there are no more rpgs, but when we get a new game and on top of that a REAL rpg on a well known and liked engine, they go full retard? Anyone care to explain how this works?

For all I care all future rpgs till the end of the world can be running on IE or SPECIAL system.

Did you just randomly copy-paste a description of the Infinity Engine from Wikipedia into your post? WTF?

Are you implying Bioware will become good again?
Trent oster is the BIoware co-founder and Cameron Tofer is the former Bioware lead programmer. Beamdog is basicaly old Bioware, if anyone can make old IE games, it is them.

Dafaq? Bioware =The doctors. Just becuse Oster was one of the co-founders, this doesn't make him the face of Bioware. He was not one of the creative persons, so there is no reason to think that he is the only one who can make an old IE game.

This company couldn't even make a game on their own, all they do is remaster old classics. I'm not saying they can't produce something good eventually, we will see about that. But saying that they are the only ones who can make IE games is ridiculous.

And who are you, to say that he wasn't ?

so there is no reason to think that he is the only one who can make an old IE game.

Yes there is a one big fucking reason, they are the only team that are currently working on a official IE project. That sets them way ahead of any other company.

They started small to get the budget, a very wise market decision.

. I'm not saying they can't produce something good eventually, we will see about that.

I'm not saying either.

They are not the only ones who can make IE games, they are the only ones who are making them.

interquel set between BG1 and BG2

These 5 seconds between the party beating Saverok and before getting nuked by Irenicus?

Sure, why not. At least it should be short.

Well, nothing stops Beamdog to develop a DLC with deep writing and brilliant quest structure where the recent heroes of BG are hired to an adventure/solve a mystery, visit cool locations and gain 2-3 levels, and in the end they discover that the whole thing was a setup and they are captured by Irenicus.
Nothing but the fact that it's Beamdog we are talking about...

I guess I didn't word that right. Jaheira, Minsc, Imoen, Sarevok etc... are characters that exist in FR? As in, they just took some characters that are already named and mentioned in the lore or other books, and then wrote them into the game? Similar to Jeanette Voerman in Bloodlines. She is a character in the WoD setting. Troika didn't make her up from scratch.

I just don't really keep up on FR lore so I don't know.
