I would also definitely prefer grid-based movement at least as an option. I think we talked many times about it and I find that grid-based movement is the sort of abstraction that makes it a more dreamlike experience instead of what is basically a turn-based FPS.

Hey everyone,

As many of you know, we're planning on crowdfunding our upcoming title, The Bard's Tale IV. While we have a fair bit of experience with this, our success depends on your support, and we want to make sure that we are delivering something that you all will really enjoy. We did this early on with the Wasteland 2 campaign and learned a lot so we're back again to ask your thoughts.

We are curious to find out what sort of digital rewards you would like to see us include in the upcoming campaign. We know that for many of you, physical goods don't necessarily hold much interest (whether that's for reasons of cost, shelf space or shipping). And of course, digital rewards let us focus more time and money on making the game, and less on figuring out the logistics of manufacturing and shipping. We will ask about physical rewards in a later thread, so for the purposes of this one, please stick to digital.

In short: what sorts of digital rewards make you excited to pledge for a game? Do you value having a stand-alone copy of the game's soundtrack? An extra copy of the game to give a friend? How much do you enjoy having extra setting content (novellas, lore guides and books, etc) or extra insight content (retrospectives, documentaries, etc).

Feel free to share your own ideas, or examples of crowdfunding campaigns that you felt did particularly well on these.

Thanks and I look forward to picking your brains as we put this game together!

Chris

It's happening!

Let's hope this won't be another unfinished product ala Wasteland 2 and don't forget to hire better writters this time ( no more towers for the love of god).Going to put another 50 bucks on the line, maybe one day they will get it right...maybe.

I like to think this whole endless kickstater project thing is just Brian giving the finger to Herve over and over again. I mean, when you think about it both are trying to capitalize off past success.

This is like the adult version of going over to a girl's house for "research."

Now let's talk physical rewards!

Hey all,

As we mentioned in the digital goods thread for The Bard’s Tale IV, we want to involve you in our preparations as we ramp up towards our crowdfunding campaign, and are looking for feedback, input, and ideas on our rewards. We know that physical rewards a occupy a special place in the hearts (and shelves!) of our backers.

So, we'd like to ask: what sorts of physical rewards do you want to see at various tiers? What do you value that will make you look at a game box and raise it from cool, to amazing?

For example: what's most important to you as a backer? Some really cool artwork? A unique and clever box design/layout? Manuals, strategy guides, graph paper, or physical code wheels? Maybe even your own mini bardic lute? We are looking primarily at rewards that go inside game boxes, be they standard, collector’s edition or even more deluxe versions.

And of course, if you have your own ideas, or backed another project that did something really unique and novel, feel free to let us know too!

Brian Fargo's severed head on the stick if this game turns out to be shit based on the personal opinion of the backer for $1kk.

Posted my ideal KS Collector's Box over there:

Most definitely a Collector's boxed version that should include:

- an actual "old school" box similar to Pillars of Eternity's Collector's box (really the only KS box, so far, that looks and feels like the ones from our past) that had a slipcase or maybe do one with a cover flap with nice art inside of it...

- A spiral bound manual (meaning one that has a little "meat on the bones") written "in universe" from a NPCs perspective perhaps

- A decent cloth map like the old Ultima ones (not the cheap ones made for W2!)

- An old style cd-case with a front and back liner

- A soundtrack

- Some type of game related trinket (the W2 figure was neat but I enjoy in-world coins in cloth bags or maybe an old parchment letter w/ game related clues, etc)

- Maybe an old style Command/Install Card

That, to me, is the perfect Kickstarter Collector's box. You don't need any other physical items unless you want posters or t-shirts as add-ons. A signed version would go for more.

I for one would put forth another considerable sum like I did for W2 (over $500) but won't pledge that much unless it's something like this (not like W2) and it arrives as quickly as PoE did. Please don't make us wait as long as we did for W2!!!

so they've shot the KS video huh

hope they've developed a prototype cuz I'm not backing any more shit based on promises alone

for any future KS (inxile or otherwise) I will have to know the following before I back it:
1) amount of gore
2) how intrusive will backer-added bullshit be
3) if it be a linear piece of shit with faux C&C

they should take some ideas from wizardry tales of the forsaken land. That game had the best grid based dungeons.
