I read that mail.... I need to take a shower now.

Can't wait for more drama. It's still blowing my mind people throw money at something shady like this. Surely firstworldians swim in money, like communists think.

Addressing two news sources that are unprofessional and show incredible personal bias:

Most sites who have written about us have been largely objective and fair, and report without bias and based on the information that they have. We feel that every journalist has a right to cover a subject from whatever viewpoint they possess. However, we feel that two news sites have been completely one-sided and subjective in their coverage of us. We feel that their coverage of us lacks basic journalistic integrity and their articles have devolved into personal speculation and slander against us.

(to all of our backers and supporters: we are sorry for being so upfront about this subject, but people have a right to know the truth, and we can't sit back and watch people trying to destroy what we've accomplished)

The first news site is Forbes, which was recently sold to a chinese company. They continue to report based on completely outdated information and present personal speculation as fact. They compiled a list of “red flags”, based on information spread by trolls from our Kickstarter comments section. They continue to post articles that site commentators as sources (commentator's who's history consists of posting exclusively negative lies about us), which goes against all sorts of journalist standards. We believe that the level of unprofessional-ism that they have presented is due to lax editorial standards because of their recent sale to a Hong Kong based company.

They are now claiming that our success on Kickstarter is fabricated, whilst conveniently failing to mention that people are using multiple accounts to make a bunch of 1 dollar pledges, and every time a new backer comes along, they remove 1 or 2 pledges, so that it looks like our sum is increasing without any new backers. We personally think that Erik Kain, the writer of the articles on Forbes, has a huge personal bias against us, and is doing everything that he can to wrongfully discredit us. His writing is the absolute antithesis of objective journalistic integrity. He is a writer who feeds on controversy, and who is making a name for himself by posting slander against Areal.

The second news source we want to mention, is VG247, and in their most recent article, they summarize the teaser and say that our Kickstarter is, to quote, a "clusterfuck". They go on to say that Survarium, a free to play MMO shooter, is the true successor to STALKER (which was a single player only series), and that you should all play it instead of supporting us. We don't want to point fingers, and of course journalism always has an element of subjectivity, but we feel that VG247's article took things a little too far.

We have also asked them to update their previous articles, wherein a moderator on facebook expressed her personal opinions, and not the opinions of our company, so as to reflect the fact that her frustrations do not represent our company's views in anyway, but they have declined to update their article (to our knowledge). They have every right to post whatever they want, and however they want to, and we definitely respect that, but we feel that their coverage paints a distorted view on our project.

Ultimately, this is a case of a coordinated effort by a bunch of trolls to do everything in their power to destroy our project. They spam every news site they see, and unfortunately, some news sites listen to them.

One user on Kickstarter compiled a list of trolls that have been writing negatively about us 24/7, and we though that it's a good resource, so we're sharing it with everyone:

Hello,
This is a message from Kickstarter’s Trust & Safety team. We’re writing to notify you that the Areal (Suspended) project has been suspended, and your $x.00 USD pledge has been canceled. A review of the project uncovered evidence that it broke Kickstarter's rules. We may suspend projects when they demonstrate one or more of the following:

  • A related party posing as an independent, supportive party in project comments or elsewhere
  • Misrepresenting support by pledging to your own project
  • Misrepresenting or failing to disclose relevant facts about the project or its creator
  • Providing inaccurate or incomplete user information to Kickstarter or one of our partners
Accordingly, all funding has been stopped and backers will not be charged for their pledges. No further action is required on your part.

We take the integrity of the Kickstarter system very seriously. We only suspend projects when we find strong evidence that they are misrepresenting themselves or otherwise violating the letter or spirit of Kickstarter's rules. As a policy, we do not offer comment on project suspensions beyond what is stated in this message.

Regards,
Kickstarter Trust & Safety

Good fucking riddance, if proyects like Proyect Eternity were the poster child of an all star team making all our infinity engine dreams come true, Shadowrun one of its first success stories and Divinity OS the shinning beacon of hope for the whole crowd funded premise...then Areal is the very worst the sistem had to offer with dumbfuckery after dumbfuckery of illogical budget, stolen assets, dubious at creentials and the cherry on top the Putin letter
This is not even funny anymore because all of this comes out of skullfucking one of my all time favorite series
Thanks to these idiots we may probably never see another Stalker based game...

Well if you still want to get a laugh you can check out the Yogencast KS that basically melted down recently. They have already claimed that they are not required to offer refunds and it also came to light that they were completly incompetent i.e they paid a artist $95k upfront and the guy could not stay on the team as he accepted a job from Disney or something and the contract stated he didn't have to pay them back for doing literally no work.

This and I think we have enough stuff for laugh.
At least it's shut down before end. I can live with using STALKER as a bait. Doesn't change the fact that's better to pay for finished product.
Propably the only sad thing here is that there're lot of morons who throw dosh for that shady as fuck shit. They must really life in some happy land or closed enclaves because real life may kill them with such naive manner.

That's why it was called "Con" Express :)
He cancelled the project and immediately started a new kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/kilobite/knuckle-club
I had a look at both kickstarters and don't understand why people are not suing away. This clearly is a scam and the graphics provide no indication that they ever tried to make a game, they are just graphics.
I think the plan is to milk the internet for 35,000$, then bum about for 1 1/2 years and make graphics, then repeat as often as possible. I would not be surprised if none of the people listed as "staff" or the magic investor even exist.

I guess the "Putin letter" was the nail in the coffin. Glad that kickstarter acted on these assholes, unfortunately they let most others get through.
