It's always heartening to see proof that our hive of scum and villainy isn't regarded with universal disdain by developers. Good luck, Mr Davis! :salute:

I don't know why the quotes aren't working either. I edited the posts and the quote codes seem correct to me.

Will you be working on the Aliens game? That would be pretty funny considering the Aliens RPG that was cancelled at Obsidian.

Yeah, I'll be working on Aliens Colonial Marines. This gets me a step closer to completing my 2nd tier Nerd Trifecta Badge.

I probably won't ever complete the first tier thanks to the Star Trek license being so hard to get.

Anthony, have you ever considered using your knowledge of old school crpgs and experience from working at Obsidian to take a stab at indie game development? I bet Brian and Annie wouldn't mind some extra help on Dead State.

Seriously? I don't recall anyone doing anything tremendous with the license in the first place, and is Star Trek really that popular?

Obsidian's take on the Star Trek series, and able to do a proper cRPG would be incredible. But a Publisher with that licence would just want them to make yet another another shitty action game.

Not sure indie is the way to go when you're about to start a family.

I have my own indie game I am working on - a re-release of Aldon's Crossing.

I have a couple of other ones too, but that one is furthest along.

I am really looking forward to Dead State though.

On a somewhat-related note, remember when you kept referring to DS3 as a RPG back before it had been announced? Funny stuff.

Hahahaha, RPG is such a loaded term, especially here. I think the problem is that so many games now latch on to RPG and RPG mechanics that the term is getting watered down. One could even argue that BF3 has RPG mechanics because of the weapon unlocks and class ranks.

In the most traditional sense, I do think DS3 qualifies because you do assume a ROLE. You are one of the characters in the story - you have a name, a point of view, and a destiny. Now we can get into specifics of how well we achieved that on DS3, but that is the subjective argument about quality rather than the objective argument that is the genre of the game.

As far as RPG gameplay mechanics go, we do have a few of the more traditional gameplay mechanics usually associated with RPGs:

Choice and Consequence - there are several choices you can make the change the outcome of the story and the characters within it. On a side note, I wish we could have released George Zeit's source book he wrote for the World of Ehb. It was an amazing read.

RPG Systems: you can build your character in different ways, though I feel this takes a lot of work to see any real difference. I know that Matt Maclean and some of the guys in QA were able to build wildly divergent classes. For example, Matt's Wind Shear Guardian was pretty OP.

Loot: there is a lot of loot, and the DLC adds the ability to break down magic items and enchant other items.

We can argue about the quality of these gameplay features, but that is a subjective argument. Some here liked it, some thought it SOZZY (even though I thought SoZ was good). Objectively, those features are present in the game.

Thanks, but that is all stolen programmer art right now. I had hired an artist but I was not pleased with the final results for the price we paid.

I also haven't updated in a while because of all of the moving and stuff. I should do that some time this week.
