Not really. He created some exceptional levels for Quake and not only.
And at least he is a gamer, which is more that I can say about Carmack.

Just finished Rage. And the only good thing about the game is the graphics and the weapons.
Yep. The game looks fabulous with max details. And the weapons have that id special something that make them "feel good".

Other than this, the game is a real Frankenstein:
    - story wants to be Fallout-like, mutant army whatever,
    - hubs like in Metro2033 and the game experience is somewhat similar, but much worse,
    - armored enemies reminiscent of Stalker and Singularity,
    - Bioshock influence all over the place,
    - racing like in Powerslides and Interstate 76,
    - multiple ammos for weapons like in System Shock 2,
    - funny robot gimmicks like in Portal,
    - bland and boring experience as in Borderlands :)
Big wtf: They don't even have a proper end boss. The game seems to be rushed.

I would guess that id has no more inspiration. They simply took cool things from other games, mixed together and hoped for the best. In this case, the mixture is not bad, but is not great either. It's just pretty.
id cannot into open world. And after 15 year of sub-par games, I see the reason why they went with Bethesda.

I have an issue with this statement. After Doom 3, I don't think id gets to have any special mention of "good feeling" guns. Doom 3 was honestly just mediocre otherwise, but holy shit the guns were HORRIBLE. I ended up opening up the game files to mod how they worked because I couldn't stand them, but you can't fix the sound effects or models.

I've said this so many times but after Doom and a couple knock offs they just haven't made games like Doom any more, which were about exploring defeating the map, not respawning enemies like in serious sam/painkiller, or defeating scripted events like in call of duty. I'm so glad there are SO many fucking custom wads for the thing, I still play doom most days of the week in coop with one of my friends
    Roderick and Angthoron Brofist this.
