The 3d areas gave me headaches because of eye strain (like many old games)

Protip: Use low cycle value to emulate phased movement. You could use fixed cycle value in dosbox.conf as well ( example: 3000, alike Wizardry VII ). The game runs too fast at 100% cycle value. 30% seems about right, you can sense distinct hops between squares and smoother turn rate. Also if you collect the digital clock, you can see the counter go.
