Fuck, those areas weren't even that complex. A modder could remake them all in Source or whatever.

If he was making LSL8 instead, using his old design docs, I'd donate in a heartbeat.

Oh but he will! Right after we good folks fund each of these other 6 games to the tune of at least half a mil each! Promise! :troll:

pixel art looks better than high hd 2d art. I never found the games to be any fun anyway.

"Al Lowe kick-starts Leisure Suit Larry" and I'm fucken broke.

Al's a cool dude (screw all ya haters), the video's fun (screw all ya haters), but this is seriously not the time and place for this. Do these devs really think the adventure crowd has been sitting on a pile of cash waiting to throw it at the screen? Space this shit out already.
So I guess I'm with the haters, so screw me. I'd give him my gold if I had that pile lying around though.

I've fapped to the erotic cartoons of LSL7 back then. Still find it hotter than the cheap photorealistic crap.

Then again, I've fapped to Disney cartoons too.

Yeah, that's some quality game journalism there, sea. I thought everybody knew about this whole deal but I guess you can't expect young punks to know everything of their trade, these days.

Anyway, yeah, it's a pity he's not making a sequel. He also kind of gives me a "too old for this crap" vibe. He looks creepy in that video.

The new one looks better, but I did like the 90's Larry's angular aesthetic.

Wait they sold more Larry 1 hintbooks than copies?

I don't see the need to pay for a remake when there is a VGA remake already, when Al decides to make Larry 4 I will probaby donate, but this is just jumping on the Bandwagon

Maybe it's a matter of taste. I've always preferred 2D pixel art to polished crap. Just like how I prefer the original Monkey Island games over their recent remakes.

I also like the old pixelated remake better.

Parts of the video were funny but Al's delivery is terrible. Best part was when he said 'Let me tell you about the game before I hit you up for cash." Re: remake vs. pixels. I think the MI 1 remake just had terrible art direction. MI 2 looked a lot better.

Let's remember that that shit is technically a "remake" too... no need to hate on the "Special Edition" though since you can switch between both versions with the press of a key, maybe one of the awesome-est features about it...

I'm not hating bro, just ignoring.

It's great to see such a treasure getting some love, and the switch between versions is fantastic, but I grew up with the original one, I love it's magic and graphics. Besides, clearly Monkey Island dialogs were not made to be heard, but to be read. Some lines go from funny to awkward with the voice overs...

Western developers seem to have some serious art style problems with high resolution 2D.

The image below looks awesome because they hired a decent artist and he tried to make an attractive gypsy within the limitations of EGA. By necessity, style is a secondary consideration, mostly the artist is after quality. That makes it harder to hate this image.

Fast forward a bit and we have the hideous monstrosity below. The technology allows them to make the image as detailed as they want, but the design calls for a stylized look. So the artist makes up some bullshit style and draws everything in that way. Style is a primary consideration, not quality. So it's a lot easier to hate this image.

And I sure do hate it.

The problem is, they fucked the art direction. Between the original and remake #1, stylistic differences are minimal. Between those two and remake #2, it's big and often very arbitrary.

Also they turned Guybrush into a German hipster from 80s.

    Re: SOMI remake

I would think the shift towards photorealism in the frst VGA remake would also be a tad controversial. I remember finding it awfully weird in an otherwise cartoony game...
