Age of Fear 2: The Chaos Lord

Looks ok. Seems more like a fantasy wargame than an RPG tho. At least form the very limited look of the trailer.

Got this on steam for only a couple of bucks and got to say I'm pleasantly surprised. Wesnoth/PG-like turn based strategy with units being carried over across campaigns, gaining experience and upgrading to new classes. Even on normal difficulty I've been pressed by quite a few scenarios.

One particularly nice feature is branching mission options depending upon your decisions. I've also got to say that it's quite fun indulging in the unashamedly evil characters (the two campaigns centre upon a manipulative succubus or a fledgling orc warlord) as opposed to the usual goody two-shoes.

The main potential issue will be one's tolerance to RNG-heavy gameplay with luck playing a similar role to games like Wesnoth. Still I've felt the system to be pretty fair with dumb moves by me generally being punished (the AI is pretty solid). Still the temptation to re-load upon losing a particularly valued veteran unit is a strong one.

Surprised no one on the Codex seems to have tried it out. It's 75% off right now but seems to be on sale fairly often.

So? Anyone played it yet?

I played Age of Fear 1. It was a nice little tacticool game, if a bit unpolished in certain ways.

The undead campaign was p. Fun, while the human campaign was meh due to some of the slightly boring unit types.

Cool series, I liked the game a lot (they even have C&C) and the developer is a bro (still seems to regularly update both games).

67% off on this at the moment. I'm contemplating picking it up.
