No automatically talking ads are tolerated and I remove them as I see them, so how about instead of jumping on the blocking button you report such ads for removal as requested in the first post? I mean, it's really not hard and I appreciate the help.

I just turned ABP off and haven't gotten the talkies yet, so you win... this time.

It makes the annoying "windows alert" sound every 2 seconds without ever being clicked. Saving the page and checking the files in butler_data folder show it appears to be this ad: d7775ddf95b0bc9d566b771d17b22e4d.swf

That doesn't help me much... knowing where the ad is being served from or where it points to would help. At least try viewing the source of the frame so I can see which ad provider is serving it.

Edit: Might have found it... you'll see if you don't see it again.

Yeah, you know the code only ever points to butler.php. Butler.php then does some hokum pok'em with a bunch of javascript to actually hide where the actual ad is coming from, in the hope they'll get around all the ad blockers everyone uses. All you end up with is a randomly coded .swf file.

Clicking on it to see which domain it goes to would still help.

So are you still seeing it or not?

That would be unethically generating ad revenue and I couldn't in good conscience bring myself to do that.

Nope, haven't seen it again yet.

It used to pop up all the time and I haven't seen it in a while, either, FWIW.

serch, actually that's very helpful... tells me it's not just an Australian ad. I've removed a whole series of them across several countries now, so hopefully the offensive ones will be gone within an hour.

GAO, one of our advertising providers, has been down or very unresponsive for a few hours now, so I've noticed that their ads haven't been loading, but in FF and IE that just means a broken banner, nothing else. I've got no idea what's up with Opera for it to be showing you that. In any case, they seem to be back now, so it shouldn't be an issue any more.

    hi...
Here's the holy trinity of good reports about problematic ads:

    1. Take a screenshot of it.
    2. See where the ad points to (target url), and copy the url.
    3. Describe what the ad is doing that is problematic.

Then send me a PM with all of the above (screenshot, target url of the ad, description of why it's a problem), and I'll look into it. Opening separate threads about it or posting pictures here is only wasting your time, because without the information requested above I can't do anything to remove such ads, nor do I regularly monitor all the threads here.

If there are any other ad-related problems you are having, feel free to discuss them here. Feel free to also ask any other questions either here or via PM. Thank you.

It's frightening to see a bot get the gist of this thread sooner than some of the human members... the end is truly neigh. Skynet cometh!

There's a talking Wal-Mart gift card ad, Ad-Block has been enabled until it's gone.

I get this too, it sucks. We don't even have Walmart in Germany. (It flopped because Germans hated the Walmart-philosophy of not letting employees date each other. And greeters. Urgh. Being friendly is frowned upon in Germany.)

Very helpful. How about at least describing which ad spot that is if taking a screenshot is too much to ask for? *sigh*
