Ivar the Boner
Arcane
And now for something completely different...
The game is set in the world of Vikings and Norse mythology. Loki steals Odin's spear, Freyr's sword and Thor's hammer, rendering them powerless. They decide to create an infant, the title character (named after the god of the same name), who must bring back the three legendary weapons.
At the beginning of the game, the now adult Heimdall undergoes three arcade-style trials: axe-tossing (cutting a maid's braids), boar hunting and fighting. How well he does influences which crew members he can pick for the actual game. The characters belong to the 'classes' of Warrior, Wizard, Shipwright, Navigator, Druid, Blacksmith and Berzerker.
The game sees Heimdall and his crew (total of 6 characters) travelling around an archipelago of islands in three different maps: Utgard, Midgard and Asgard. On each island, only three characters can walk, while the rest remain on the ship. They travel engaging monsters in combat, interacting with the locals, solving puzzles and avoiding traps, a blend of styles somewhat similar to that found in the Legend of Zelda games. The cartoon-style action is viewed in the isometric perspective.

I decided to do another LP. But this time something other than real time tactics games. Reason for choosing this game is very simple - I wanted to play it anyway and making LP will force my lazy ass to actually finish this thing. I know absolutely nothing about the game other than it's action-adventure with little RPG elements and it came out in 1991. So put your pseudo viking cap and let's dive straight into it:
Oh, I'm using WinUAE 1.4.6 (it's the last one that works on Win98) with 1.3 kickstarter roms and emulating OCS Amiga 500 with 512 slow ram if it matters to anyone. I actually had amiga 500+ when I was a kid, my friend had Amiga 1200 and I was sooo envious of it. My family sold our amiga 500+ together with monitor when we switched to PC (around 1996-1997). I don't know what happened with my friends A1200, I think it broke and was thrown away.... shame.
Also, you may notice that some of the screenshots are slightly not in the center of the screen. That's because I'm using OpenGL filter/scaler thingy. I would not use it normally and simply play on low resolution so everything would be fullscreen anyway. But it would make screenshots tiny. So I had to play on 1024 for 748 and just use scaler to make shit fill the screen. Using scaler had it problems, mainly it eats resources and slower machine may have problems emulating everything properly (first thing to go wrong is sound, so you won't notice if my machine have problems emulating). But it seems to work fine, even sounds run ok, which is strange (I'm on Duron 1.2 GHZ with 254 ram harhar) but whatever.
Ok, NOW let's dive into it...
Intro:
Never heard of them to be honest.
No, I want to watch it please...
Missed one screen, sorry:
IT WAS`NT UNTIL FREY STOOD UP TO OFFER A PLAN THAT WOULD RETRIEVE THE WEAPONS
THAT THE GODS CALMED DOWN.
So Thor shagged a chick named Ingrid and we were born.
And in the next episode... WE WILL PRESS 3 HOLY CRAP!
We won't cheat but I will use savestates. They are reliable and very fast so why bother with using in game save feature and fuck around with disks. this game came out on 5 floppies so that's fucking enough floppies for me, thank you. WinUAE in theory can emulate up to 4 additional floppy drives, but games not always recgonize all of them and simply want every fucking disk in DF0 or DF1 and there is nothing you can do about it. Well you can try to install them to hard drive or use WHDload but I never had much luck with it so I'll stick to floppies for now.
