Maybe clean up this forum a little bit, or better yet - move Participation Awards (almost all threads in the last 6 months or so) into the GD section (while keeping it open-access, so that noobs like Swampy_Butthole can entertain us with their clowning), and have a clean, serious Site Feedback forum for genuine issues with the site.

Ok. I've been saying since literally the 1st Tobey McGuire Spiderman that that was what Hollywood should be focusing on.

By that point, already, The Sopranos and The Wire were the best tv shows in the land, and they demonstrated incontrovertibly that TV could handle all of the heavy shit, no problem.

TV proved that it could replace the novel. Movies had always been a stand-in for the short-story.

People don't really like the brevity of short stories unless they're told in a really crisp manner. Like, for example, the way Poe did it.

Audiences wanted the violence and macabre aspect of Poe's writing, like they (kind of) get with shows like Criminal Minds,
but they also (the smart ones) wanted to live with the characters for as long as possible.

The Sopranos and The Wire delivered that.

Movies couldn't deliver that.

Nonetheless, people love a great thrill-ride...hence the rise of the super-hero movie. Especially the un-pretentious Marvel movies (which I fucking love, btw).
